This is funny.

I found this over on Hockey Buzz and it is funny. Julie Robenhymer says the Badgers are a bunch of goons.

Perspective.

I was reading Brandon's post calm the F$%K Down and Dirty's humors post (Yeah the Sioux played like dog crap) That post was fricken hilarious by the way.

Blowing Sunshine

1.) Championships are won in March and April, there isn't a banner for having the best record in the first half of the season. If there was the would be banners hanging in Saint Cloud and Minneapolis. The PWR ranking doesn't even start mattering until February and March. I have seen team drop out of the top 14 teams faster than a prom dress at a after prom party.

2.) Sioux7 and I put our deposit down for the Holiday INN right across from the Xcel Center and believe the boys are going to turn it around and get there come March, I believe the boys are getting closer to being that team to finish in the top 3 or 4. If not we will still be there and so will Jake.

3.) The University of North Dakota is not going to fire Dave Hakstol for his teams fumbling and playing poorly in the first half of the last 4 1/2 seasons. For a joke I started the Fire Hastol thread over on Siouxsports.com There have been some really good posts on the subject. Come folks on its early, if they are playing like this at the end of December and January I will be concerned. I am not there yet.

I like anyone else are frustrated by the Sioux's play so far but I believe that the Sioux will get it together. Again the Sioux haven't played that poorly, when the first half champions starting to play poorly because their teams have peaked and now can't fight their way out of a paper you will see a whole different make up in the standings of the conference.

Perspective your team wants to be playing good at the end of the season. If your favorite team peaks too fast before the regular season is over. I have seen a lot of teams win the WCHA regular season title only to tank in the it playoffs, see C.C. team from last season. The does have to be some happy medium and I would like to see the Sioux win earlier in the season so they can be in contention for an WCHA regular season title. The room for error wouldn't be so small if they could win 3-4 more games during the first half of the regular season.

4.) For the experts that think this years UND team is going to be like the 2001-2002 season get a grip there is way more talent on this team than that one. Also, some of our friends would love UND to have a down season this year. Right Amy?

What's a Seawolf?

This weekend the Fighting Sioux 3-5-0 take on the Seawolves 5-3-2 from Alaska Anchorage. Every year there is an on going discussion on what the heck is a Seawolf? Personally, I am not sure we have ever been given a definative concrete explanation on this subject. So does anyone know what the hell a Seawolf actually is?

Siouxman gives this definition of What a Seawolf is.
Well, he is a mythical creature. But what is more exciting is that the legend of the Sea-Wolf could be told from the perspective of many different Indian tribes from British Columbia to the Nazca Plain in Peru.

According to the original legend, the Sea-Wolf was the head of totem poles for many different tribes -- the only other honor given to the thunderbird.

What makes it seem likely that the Sea-Wolf was far more than just a myth was that every tribe that has seen the creature from North America down to the south has described it in the same way. The Sea-Wolf could be described as having dog-like limbs with a crocodile-like snout and large eyes. Legend also says that when you see the Sea-Wolf he will bring good luck

I checked on Wikipedia and there is also a fish that is named a Seawolf.
The Atlantic wolffish (Anarhichas lupus), also known as the Seawolf, Atlantic catfish, wolf eel (the common name for its Pacific relative), or sea cat, is a marine fish, the largest of the wolffish family Anarhichadidae. The numbers of the Atlantic wolffish are rapidly depleting due to overfishing and by-catch, and is currently a Species of Concern according to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration's (NOAA) National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS)[1].

The Match up

The Sioux have a record of 4-3-1 against the Seawolves over the course of the last three season. The Sioux have beaten UAA three straight games in a row. This is not going to be an easy win the last four games have been close hard fought games.

One positive of the OBAMA victory.

Washington Compost picture
The last time the Fighting Sioux won an NCAA titles there was a Democratic president in the White House. In fact when the Sioux won their 6th and 7th NCAA title while William Jefferson Clinton was president of the United States of America.

The Republican party has been less kind to the Fighting Sioux, who went 0-5 with George W. Bush in the White House; 2001, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2008

Gandalf on Big Joe Finely.

Gandalf The Red from Sixty Minutes. No Alibis. No Regrets. has an interesting take on my favorite Fighting Sioux defenseman, big Joe Finley. Just for the record big Joe is out with a concussion, which I hope he gets over soon. You do have to love Gandalf's attempt at humor. I still want to see the letter that Joe drafted last season for the Wisconsin mascot.
Last week's poll winner Joe Finley, top goon in the WCHA, didn't play this past weekend for the North Dakota Fighting Sioux due to injury, or at least that is what they want you to believe.

I think its more than a coincidence that Joe Finley had a week off and couldn't return to the lineup w/ an "undisclosed injury" when the opponent just happened to be the Wisconsin Badgers. I would venture that Joe Finley didn't play last weekend because of Patrick Johnson.

Its well documented that Joe Finley was owned by Patrick Johnson last season, likely on several occasions. Patrick said so himself at one point that he told the top goon that he was going to own him. What reason would I have not to believe Patrick? He's the son of legends in Wisconsin Hockey history and reminds us before each home game that "It's a great day for hockey!"

Check out this blog post.

I really like this blog post, this is an interesting way to say that the Pioneers are kicking the Badgers ass. Incidentally, the Fighting Sioux play the Wisconsin BADgers next weekend. After watching the Badgers play last night against the Gophers don't expect such lop sided (7-4) scores next weekend. That being said, I do expect the Sioux to come out and take the play to the Badgers, Connelly is a decent goaltender but he isn't Brian Elliot.
Pioneers all over the Badgers
by Mike Chambers on October 17, 2008

I don’t believe in blogging in-game, but I had to jump on this … DU is simply kicking the crud out of Wisconsin.

After one period, it’s tied 1-1, but let me tell you, the Badgers are lucky to be among the living. DU has a 24-5 shots advantage and Badgers goalie Shane Connelly undoubtedly is sweating bullets in the locker room. He faced a DU arsenal that I haven’t seen since the 2005 title team.

CBS College Sports = CCHA Hockey Network.

East Coast Bias.

Here was an interesting blog by Kat Kealy, so more her post really hits home. As a college hockey fan of a western college hockey team I can agree with her, how many times have we had to watch yet another game between two east coast teams, or better yet; last season CSTV should have been called the CCHA network because they loved showing the CCHA games on a weekly basis.

As for CBC why do they call it hockey night in Canada? They should call it hockey night in Toronto, every Saturday you get to see the mediocre Maple Leafs lose yet another game in prime time on CBC.

US National Television Extending the East Coast Bias
Kat Kealy
Since I grew up in the northeast, I must admit that I never cared about the sports world being so biased towards the east coast… until I moved to California. Then, I realized that although some sports definitely alter their schedules a bit for the east coast (Monday Night Football would clearly not be as late if they only cared about the east coast viewers), most things in sports are centered on the east coast. Whenever I see a game time, I automatically subtract 3 hours. It’s just the way things go out here.

Clearly, when the national broadcast schedules were released for hockey, I knew there would be more games with east coast teams than west coast teams, but the bottom 10 for US nationally televised games (all with zero or one game) has only two teams from the eastern conference and the top 10 for US nationally televised games (with 5-9 games) has only 3 western conference teams.

Calgary, Edmonton, and Los Angeles have no games that are nationally televised in the US. Clearly, Calgary and Edmonton have a lot of games that will be on CBC and TSN. The Kings have three games that will be nationally televised in Canada and none in the US. I certainly wouldn’t argue that the Kings deserve more air time than they’re getting. They were just barely the 29th team in the league last season. However, using that same argument, why is Tampa Bay going to be on national television in the US 4 times?

I understand that the big hockey markets (like New York, Boston, Minnesota, Detroit, etc.) come first. However, how can the NHL grow the sport in other markets if they only show teams from the cities where they already have good ratings?

check out this funny commercial...

UNDER REVIEW had this new Boston Bruins commercial posted on his blog from NESN and it is a very funny commerical. I have to say it is one of more creative ones.

Stanley Cup on Guiding Light?

They even have a Lord Stanley's Cup in a scene of a soap opera the Guiding light. What next? I suppose we will see the Stanley Cup on the Family Guy. I knew there was a reason I don't watch these stupid shows.

The Stanley Cup, the oldest and most revered trophy in all professional sports, made its "acting" debut on the set of the longest-running television show in broadcast history, "Guiding Light."

Proper way to throw a golf club.

During the off season where there is no more hockey this is an important technique to know when you're having a tough day on the golf course.

Seems that others are getting tired with Sid the Kid and his antics.

I would imagine that Boosh will like this picture. Seems that Rangers are not the only ones that are fed up with Crosby's diving antics. While I think Crosby is a good hockey player he does get a little tiresome.

The Lammy Leap... Discussion on all star teams.

This is one of the funniest pictures I have seen in a long time. It was on INCH and the question is: Caption This: What Is J-P Doing? I think we could call it the Lammy Leap.

Also check out this silly discussion on the CHN all star selection. The Discussion is turning into on of your classic USCHO.COM flame feasts.

Check out this blog post and some April Fools Humor.

Adam W apparently has people all excited about this post he made on his blog today. Come on folks this is funny. It's called being humorous you know satire. I woke today and there must have been 15 posts on the almost defunct Hockey_L with people all excited about this post. Personally I see the genius in it.

After Shea Guthrie’s spectacular goal against St. Cloud State to give the Clarkson Golden Knights their first NCAA win in 12 years, New York Islanders general manager Garth Snow decided to sign Guthrie in the middle of the NCAA tournament. Guthrie was a third-round pick of the Islanders in 2005. Snow decided to leave Clarkson defenseman Tyrell Mason in school, pending his team’s performance in Saturday’s regional final. “If we want to bring him out today, we’ll bring him out today. If we don’t, we won’t,” Snow said. “George Roll will live with it. He’s no Shawn Walsh anyway.”

Here is a good one that someone sent me in email as well... Thanks Matt

UND's "Pact Brothers" Pack it in for the NHL

Grand Forks, ND
Fighting Sioux Juniors TJ Oshie, Ryan Duncan, Taylor Chorney and Joe Finley made a pact to come back to UND to tend to some unfinished business. Things were all going according to plan after a 18 game unbeaten streak vaulted them to a #1 seed in the NCAA tournament. Last weekend the Sioux rode goalie JP Lamerioux and reigning Hobey Baker award winner Ryan Duncan to the Midwest Regional Championship in Madison, WI. On Monday afternoon rumors began swirling on the internet site Siouxsports.com that the dynamic quartet of future NHL stars had said "screw you to the NCAA" and hello big money to the NHL.

At an impromptu news conference held at the Red Pepper all four Juniors were available for questions. First, on why only 10 days before the Frozen Four are the four breaking their so called pact. This year's Hobey Baker Finalist was the first to answer. "It's a "expletive deleted" 10 day break, who is going to be able to carry their momentum into the Frozen Four with a 10 day break. "I mean if the NCAA gave a "expletive deleted" about men's hockey they'd schedule us for prime time this Friday and the Finals on Sunday. "Plus everyone one know that our team plays best in front of an energized full house and you know damn well that the NCAA was banking on Denver or CC making the Frozen Four. Without them your looking a 12,000 people max. "Look at this past weekend, the Kohl Center was only 2/3 full and we got out played by Princeton and the Badgers. "Come on seriously, Princeton out shot us like 75 to 6 and we still won 5-1. Just think if we would have had the energy of a sold out house we would have won by like 20-1."

When asked if this was meant to make a statement to the NCAA the always mercurial 2nd round pick and 2007 All American defenseman Taylor Chorney, grabbed the mic and passionately explained what transpired last night. "We got back to Grand Forks and needed to blow off a little steam, so we headed over to TJ's house and had a little 'gathering'. "Nothing special, just 200 or so of our hottest, I mean, best friends. "Right in the middle of Big Joe's keg stand, my dad comes in and he is pissed. "As I'm sure most of you know my dad was really supportive of our decision to stay at UND this year. "Well I asked him what the problem was and he says that all the die-hard hockey fans are stuck in the 300 sections this year. "Way to go NCAA, put the people who care in the nosebleeds, while all the corpies get the sweet seats. "So we kind of decided to make a statement to the NCAA and basically show up with our JV squad. "We've actually been texting some of the guys from Michigan and BC and it looks like most of their NHL prospects are with us. "If the NCAA is not going to give college hockey and it's fans the respect it deserves than good luck with their tournament."

When asked if they had a chance to speak with any players from Notre Dame, Chorney chuckled and said, "uh, we're really looking for high profile guys to make the statement, and, no disrespect to Notre Dame and their program, but they really don't have any high end guys like us."

Brad Schlossman from the GF Herald had a question for the Washington Capitals prospect Joe Finley. "Joe being 6'7" and 250 pounds, how were you able to pull off that keg stand?" Joe answered candidly "Well Washington is really impressed with my flexibility and strength, but to be honest TJ had a hidden door installed into the ceiling after his little incident in January. "It's not only a great place to hide from the cops, but it's also great for my 12 foot keg stands."

As the press conference was winding down one reports asked where forward Ryan Duncan was. Immediately at hand sprang up from behind the podium. "Sorry the Grand Forks phone book wasn't really big enough for me," Duncan answered. When asked him being involved in this "statement" was a good representation of the Hobey Baker Award? Duncan smirked and said, "what are they going to do, take it away from me? The NCAA may be able to take away our nickname, but they sure as hell aren't going to get the Hobey from me. "Plus, its locked away with the Nickel trophy and nobody getting that anytime soon."

Two press conferences have been scheduled at Michigan and Boston College on Tuesday April 1st.

Sioux third in the Rink Rat Rankings...

Wow, UND is sitting third in the The Rink Rat Rankings: Season 2, Edition No. 14 I have to admit that this is funny.

3. North Dakota - Nothing new from the Sioux this week, so that means I get to use my other joke about Dave Hakstol's "salute" to Don Adam a couple of weeks ago. Ready? OK...here goes...

I guess the logo and nickname aren't the only things that are "hostile and abusive" at UND!

Thank you, I'll be here all week. Tip your bartenders. OK, here's one thing that's not a joke: Jean-Philippe Lamoureux now leads the nation in both goals-against average and save percentage. It's quite the roller coaster for Lamoureux, from "Maybe he's not the weak link after all," to "OK, maybe he is the weak link after all" back to the former. Keep your eye on this team, and expect to see a lot of them in Colorado this spring.

My only question to Elliot is; how do we get Phil into the Hobey Baker tracker? One of your goalies on the Hobey Baker Tracker got lit up for 9 goals this weekend and look poor on national television on Friday night.

Paula Weston's Latest Rant.

Incase you haven't seen it; here is Cup Cake Hockey Association columnist's Paula Weston's and her latest rant on the the CCHA not gettin any love. Kind of like the John McCain campaign and conservative republicans. My, my, my are they getting touchy. We are going to keep hammering the pundants till they get it right, it is what it is. No doubt the fans in the WCHA get it; alert the presses Michigan, MSU and Miami are good teams that have feasted on and kicked the snot out a schedule filled with weak teams, bravo for them. Yep their records are inflated. I want to see a something more interesting than CCHA team __________ kicked the snot out of LSSU this weekend or ___________CCHA team beat the WMU Broncos this past weekend. WOW, I am impressed! Mind you that win is the equivalent of beating a middle of the pack AHA or CHA team. Hell the ECAC seems more balanced this season than your league.

The CCHA is still battling the notion that it’s a weak league and therefore its top teams’ records and rankings are somehow inflated. The Wolverines, while ranked No. 1 last weekend, were aware that they’re considered either lucky (they’re young, as we hear often) or benefiting from beating up on the lower teams in the league.

After the 2-2 tie, Berenson indirectly reminded people that the Spartans were last year’s national champion for real reasons, and that they’re playing like champs now.

“Look at their team,” said Berenson. “They had only given up three goals in the past five games, and four of those games had been on the road. So goals are tough to come by against Michigan State.”

And the No. 5, third-place, defending-national-champion Spartans — the team with the fourth-best win percentage in the country (.722) — had to feel as though the college hockey community didn’t even know they existed going into the weekend. This year, the Wolverines and the RedHawks are all anyone can talk about, and if the talking is done outside of the CCHA, it’s never flattering.
Just for the record; right now I think UNH is probably one of the best teams in the country as it stands right now.
