UND Ranked No. 1 in USCHO and USA Today Poll

Earlier today, I tweeted: These polls are fun to read but really meaningless. How many other games did the voters actually watch?

The only poll that matters is the final Pairwise Ranking on Selection Sunday. Polls are fun to read. During the first six weeks of the season, there were four teams ranked No. 1: BU, BC, Minnesota, and Wisconsin. All four of those teams are really good. To some teams, the No. 1 Ranking can be a curse.

There could be a new number one next week. According to Schloss, the last time UND was ranked No.1 was March 22, 2021, when it held the top spot heading into the NCAA tournament.

Like my buddy of mine said, you don't win banners for being number one in the polls during the month of October. I don't even know if I would put UND as the number one team in the nation.  Polls are fun to look at and are basically meaningless when you have teams that haven't played a game yet ranked in the top-20.

I musty admit that I am shocked that UND returned to the number one spot in the latest USCHO poll. Also, the national college hockey media has been fawning and slobbering all over Quinnipiac this season. And they're a good team no doubt. Anyways, there still are 30 percent of the media that believes that QU is the top team in the nation. The nice thing about college hockey is that tourney is settled on the ice and not on paper.

The rankings really means nothing since next weekend, they NCAA Ice Hockey Committee will look at the Pairwise Rankings and make their selections.

This week, the University of North Dakota Fighting Hawks remain fourth in the USCHO poll. UND is also fourth in this week’s Pairwise Rankings. The funny thing, UND swept the Bulldogs this past weekend and dropped one spot in the Pairwise Rankings. Last weekend, UND was swept by the Denver Pioneers and remained at the third spot.
