Dr Recchi rips Vancouver, Bieksa rips Recchi

Apparently Dr. Mark Recchi has stirred up the Vancouver Canucks with a few of his comments he made on a radio show in Boston last week.

You can hear Recchi's comments on the media file below. If my memory serves me right I also recall saying some of the same things about the Vancouver Canucks, " I have said in the past that the Vancouver Canucks are one of the most unlikable teams in the NHL (next to the Montreal Canadians and their fans)."

Below is the transcript of Recchi's comments.
“(In) 22 years they are the most arrogant team I played against and the most hated team I’ve ever played against,” Recchi said on 98.5 the Sports Hub. “I couldn’t believe their antics, their falling and diving. It was very frustrating, but at the same time as the series wore on we knew we were getting to them and we knew our physical play and our skating, I think it caught them off guard a little bit.”
Apparently the Vancouver Canucks didn't appreciate Mark Recchi's comments. In particular Vancouver defenseman Kevin Bieksa was less than impressed with Recchi's comments as well.
NESN.COM --- "Isn't he retired? What's he doing? Tell him to go play a round of golf or take a nap," Bieksa said, according to The Province.
Bieksa then insisted that you can call the Canucks a lot of things, but he doesn't think "arrogant" is one of them.

"The twins are so humble and you may not like playing against guys like Maxim Lapierre and Alex Burrows, but they're not arrogant," he said. "I just don't get it. Mark Recchi can go take a nap."
Really? In my opinion, I think Alex Burrows and Maxim Lapierre are two of the biggest frauds in the NHL, when these two clowns aren't posing as punks on the ice they they are diving up and down the ice when ever the opposition breaths on them.

A nice touch, Andrew Ference's tribute to Mark Recchi

I thought this was a nice touch and an emotional moment for the Boston Bruins and their loyal fans. This past summer was a roller coaster ride as the Boston Bruins took three game sevens to bring home the Stanley Cup. Fast forward to last night, it was a great banner raising ceremony, however, the game was kind of a buzz kill. It's too bad that the Boston Bruins followed up the ceremony by losing the opening game of the 2011-12 season. I would be willing to bet that it's probably not the way that the Boston Bruins wanted to start the 2011-12 season, but I think most Bruins fans will let it slide for now.
James Murphy; ESPN.COM --- The ritual started late last season and continued throughout the playoffs. Recchi had been given the jacket after Game 7, when he registered an assist in what would be his last NHL game.

“It meant a lot to our team. It was a very proud thing for the guys after games, and we were very proud of it,” Recchi said. “When Andrew brought it in and we started it, it was a special thing, and to be able to get it last in Vancouver and then get it repeated tonight, in front of your home crowd, is something I’ll never forget.”

For Ference it was an easy move to make since Recchi was such an inspirational leader to him and his teammates over the last two-plus seasons. As Ference pointed out, Recchi defined what the jacket symbolized and deserved to be the last one to wear it.
It was a really nice touch to see Andrew Ference give Mark Recchi the "Jacket" one more time and it's only fitting that the last one to wear the "Jacket" was Recchi the grizzled veteran of 22 NHL seasons who retired right after his team had won the Stanley Cup. I don't think Hollywood could have drawn it up any better.

Recchi smokes Ohlund...

Check out this monster hit by Boston Bruin's forward Mark Recchi on Tampa Bay Lightning defenseman Mattias Ohlund. Just for the record, Recchi is 43 years old and still able to play the game of hockey at a high level of play.

Mark Recchi on Daniel Carcillo

Here was an interview that Mark Recchi did for WEEI.COM and it can be found on the Big Bad Blog. Couple of interesting things that stuck out.
Is Daniel Carcillo funny? He never stops yapping.

He’s actually not funny at all. There’s nothing funny to his repertoire at all
----------
Savard really made a statement by taking those guys on. Are you beating the Flyers at their own game?

Well, that is our game, too. That is what makes us a factor. It is almost like people wake the sleeping giant. We get involved in these games, we seem to really get the emotion and are able to play a better hockey game. It is great that Savvy — he could have just laid down after he got hit but he is a competitive guy and he is showing that he is willing to stick up and is ready for this battle. And that is important. That is fine; we’ll kill those penalties and do the job for them.

Did you hear Mike Richards say that he was going to give Savard another concussion, and if so do you have a problem with it?

I didn’t hear it. I just actually heard about it for the first time last night, so that is just really in the competition unless he goes out and acts on it, then we have to look into it. But that is just part of the heat of the moment and a lot of things get said on the ice that really can’t get repeated half of the time.
BallHype: hype it up!
