(Video) Sidney Crosby cup checks Dominic Moore after being mugged by him

First, I am not a fan of the Pittsburgh Penguins by any stretch of the imagination, but in this case I don't blame Sidney Crosby for being upset. Shouldn’t the ref call the penalties as they present themselves? The blatant holding the stick, is a penalty in high school, college and in the NHL.

The treatment that Crosby has been given during the playoffs, that has gone uncalled is ridiculous. Does the NHL want their star players out with injuries or concussions?

Also, what is Crosby supposed to do? Dominic Moore has Sid’s stick and won’t let go, that’s should be a penalty, so Crosby stuck him. While we don't want to see players spearing their opponents, sometimes the opponents should expect "something" in return, especially when they do stuff like this.

You have to give kudos to Chris Kunitz for sticking up for his fellow teammate as well. Can you imagine what former Oilers tough guy Dave Semenko would have done, if someone had done this to Wayne Gretzky? There would have been blood on the ice.

David Savard slash on Chris Kunitz, Kunitz gets diving penalty

Disclosure time, I can be tough on the officials, I admit that. It’s well documented. In this case, I think that the officials got the first call right, but made the second half of the call wrong.

Let me explain, you definitely have a penalty on David Savard for slashing; he hit Chris Kunitz in the hands with his stick. That’s a text book penalty, the ref is supposed to call that. The diving call on Kunizt is kind of a tough call. It’s not like Kunitz leapt to the ice retching in pain and flailing about.  He fell down after being hit with a carbon fiber stick.

Points lead after the completion of the third round

The third round is officially over. Former Vermont Catamount Patrick Sharp (8g-6a—14pts) is the leader in the club house.  Former Wisconsin Badgers and current San Jose Sharks forward Joe Pavelski(4g-8a—12pts) hangs on to second place, but his team was eliminated from the Stanley Cup Playoffs by the defending Stanley Cup Champions

Here’s how the rest of the top six places for former college hockey players in the Stanley Cup playoffs shakes out.

There is a two way tie for third place, is former Michigan State Spartan and current Chicago Blackhawks defenseman Duncan Keith (2g-9a—11pts) is tied with former Golden Gopher and current Penguins Defenseman Paul Martin (2g-9a—11pts).

In fifth place, is former Ferris State Bulldog forward Chris Kunitz (5g-5a—10pts).  The Stanley Cup playoffs are over for this pair of Penguins, as their team was eliminate by the Boston Bruins 4-0.

Okay, I have to admit that this was a bush league move, I admit it, I am not condoning this play one bit. It's a cheap play. I don't know any Boston Bruins fan or media member that excused this play. It's unacceptable. 

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand was given a two minute minor penalty for kneeing and Pittsburgh Penguins forward Chris Kunitz was given a two minute minor for slashing.

Max Pacioretty or was it David Desharnais' goal against Boston

Boston Bruins versus the Montreal Canadians... At first, it appeared that the puck had gone off of Max Pacioretty's stick, but after further review it was obvious that it went off of Johnny Boychuk's stick and the goal was awarded to David Desharnais.

Tampa Bay Hack Steve Downie and Pittsburgh Chris Kunitz suspended for one game by the NHL.

The Colin Campbell Wheel of Justice has spun and the NHL has given Lighting Hack Steven Downie and Chris Kunitz a one game suspension. In Steve Downies’ case he is a repeat offender and I believe his hit was more egregious and deserved more than a flimsy one game suspension. The Chris Kunitz hit was dirty but he isn’t known for being a dirty player like Steve Downie is. Brett Hull was XM-204 this morning and basically said until one of these players is eliminated from the NHL playoffs there will continue to be questionable hits like this in the playoffs. This was an opportunity for the NHL to make a point but they failed in the Steve Downie incident.

NHL.COM --- According to TSN reports, Pittsburgh Penguins forward Chris Kunitz and Tampa Bay Lightning forward Steve Downie have each been suspended one game by the NHL for their actions during Game 3 of their Eastern Conference quarterfinal-round series on Monday.

Downie's ban comes as the result of a charge on Penguins defenseman Ben Lovejoy during the first period. He was going to be assessed a minor penalty on the play, but the Penguins scored a goal before the Lightning were able to gain possession of the puck for the whistle to be blown.

Kunitz connected with an elbow to the head of Lightning forward Simon Gagne on a separate play in the first period of what ended up a 3-2 win for the Penguins. They hold a 2-1 lead in the best-of-7 series with Game 4 back in Tampa on Wednesday.
