Here is what Rob Port of SayAnythingBlog.com had to say about the Grant Shaft interview on Scott Hennen's radio show last Friday on A.M 1100 the Flag.
There is nothing stopping from state board of higher education from allowing the Standing Rock Sioux tribe to vote on the nickname. If that tribe votes as the Spirit Lake tribe has already, then the NCAA’s requirements for keeping the nickname will have been fulfilled.
The problem here is that university officials don’t even want the vote to happen.

The rub is, the ND Supreme Court handed down their "opinion" stating the coffin is sealed because the SBHE does not need the SR decision to drop the name (required only to keep it) nor wait until Nov 30. Having said that, where can this SR referendum lead to? If the referendum is held and passes, does the SR sue the University and/or the SBHE? Do they, or can they, appeal the Supreme Court decision? To what higher court?
ReplyDeleteThe thing about the Supreme Court decision is that the NDSBOHE can change any college nickname at any time.
ReplyDeleteThey aren't changing the Bison because it doesn't make sense. They'd piss off the Bison faithful to no benefit.
The same thing applies to their action on the Sioux name. They have the authority, it's just a bug-stupid thing to do.
They should be held accountable for the damage that their decision causes.
I'm sure Richie Smith and co will make good on the millions of dollars they lose in donations to UND out of their own pockets.
Aha! That means they can reverse their decision too....or so it seems. there's still hope as long as the supporters don't let this go away.
ReplyDeleteSioux7NationalTitles, I was wondering about the wiggle room as well.
ReplyDeleteGoon was kind enough to send me the settlement. I don't see that the settlement limits us if we get approval before Nov.
