All Crosby all of the time.
Do you think the NHL networks have a fixation with Sidney Crosby? You bet they do. We all know that Sidney Crosby is a great hockey player, the new face of the NHL, there is no question about it.
My follow up question is; does anyone remember who the top point getting in the NHL was this season? I will give you a hint it wasn't Sidney Crosby or Alexander Ovechkin... I wonder how many people know the top pointer getter in the NHL was Henrik Sedin with (29 goals - 83 assists - 112 points)

I did know this... I don't care for Vancouver, but they know how to score some points. I think Crosby and Ovechkin are great and fun to watch, but the announcers are ruining it for me. Malkin makes a stellar play and they give Crosby credit for a pass that anyone could have made. Same goes for Ovechkin to Backstrom/Semin in Washington. Granted they make everyone around them better, but somebody please tell the announcers to keep their hard-ons at bay until they are home and off the air.
ReplyDeleteWhy shouldn't the NHL networks have a fixation with Crosby & Ovechkin? They make people watch, they make the networks money, they sell tickets & regardless of how the scoring race finished this year they are the 2 best players in the league. It sucks if you don't like those two players but you have to see the reasoning behind it don't you?
ReplyDeleteThe networks have no obligation to promote all players equally. Maybe one day if UNICEF gets into the business of broadcasting hockey they will forgo dollars in order to promote players more equally but until then the coverage will be dictated by who can make the networks the most money.
Bonus points for anyone who can tell me what movie that UNICEF joke is from.
ReplyDeleteI hate Sidney Crosby as much as the next guy, but its Hockey Night in Canada, so of course they're going to showcase the good Canadian pretty boy instead of the Russian ogre or the Swedish twin
ReplyDeleteYou answered my question, that is one point I like thrown around a lot but I think there are other players that are just as fun to watch. Toews and Kane in Chicago, Gabby in New York, Stamkos in Tampa Bay... Just to name a few others. I would love to see Washington and Pittsburgh gone in the next round to see the reaction from the NHL brass.
ReplyDeletei would love to see the bruins eat **** and die in the next round because just like cbc and versus talking about crosby and ovechkin, all you talk about is the bruins...thats all
ReplyDeleteGo Sioux - You think it might have something to do with my blog being - Dedicated to Fighting Sioux Hockey, The WCHA, College Hockey, The Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild and NHL hockey.
ReplyDeleteSeejowski - I understand why the league and the networks are pushing these guys. They are the best and I'd start to wonder wtf if they didn't. Also, I do like both of the players, I just wish the announcers during the games would take off the blinders sometimes and call a play as it is.
ReplyDeleteRyan I agree that both players are awesome, but it's almost like the NHL thinks they are the only thing that is holding the NHL together. The TV people fall all-over themselves with Crosby and and Ovechkin. Now one of their money makers are out of the playoffs.
ReplyDeleteI'll take it for granted that all of you Crosby haters don't live in the 'Burgh and if he was on your team, leading them to a Stanley Cup, you would be singing a different tune.83 assists for Sedin?, I wonder how many of those were 1st or 2nd assists? Alex the choker is gone, go Pens!
ReplyDeleteSorry, Gregg, I'm no Crosby "hater." I classify my opinion of Cooke as being a "hater."
ReplyDeleteGoon is dead on. It has nothing to do with Crosby the player. It has EVERYTHING to do with the media and the hype around Crosby.
The fact of the matter is, if you look solidly at the PR machine that is the NHL PR office, and imagine what they'd do without Crosby, what would you have?
Nothing. NOTHING AT ALL.
The fact of the matter is that there may not be as great a player as Crosby seems to be, but he's not the only show in town.
And let me tell you something: 1st assist, 2nd assist... they have one thing in common: They're both worth ONE POINT. It's like watching a #1 top 10 play on Sportcenter and the weakest goal in the history of hockey. They may be eons in difference, but they're still worth ONE POINT.
