This Weekends Match-ups (Sioux 7)

Last week in the W, we saw some history. Harrison from MSU-M scored a shorthanded natural hat-trick, with that feat accomplished, his stick is now going to Toronto to the hall of fame. It also saw UAA beat UMaine, didn't see that one coming, if you were a betting person, you could have won, or lost, a fortune on that one. The other high/low light you may or may not have seen was a goal that was disallowed that SCSU scored against UM on Friday night. The ref said he hit it in with his hand. The SCSU player did hit the puck with his hand, but it then hit a UM defense-man and then went into the net. So, since the ref only get the one view, overhead, he couldn't see it, thus the first botched goal of the season. I wonder why they haven't issued a letter of apology to SCSU yet, did they lose the form letter from last season?

On to this weekends CONFERENCE match-ups.

First we have the "Border Battle" which is the Minnesota Golden Gophers visiting Wisconsin Badgers. UW suprised me last week with giving up 13 goals, ouch Bucky, ouch. But they did score more goals than I was expecting too, is defense out this season at UW and offense in... we might know more come Sunday. The Gophers looked pretty good last weekend against SCSU, but like UW the season is young and not to much is known about the squad. With that said, I going to wuss out and call a split in this series. UW on Friday and UM on Saturday.

The other conference match up is UMD at UAA for a pair. UAA suprised me last weekend win over Maine, might this be the year the Seawolves move out of the cellar? UMD is another team most of us thing will be in the bottom half of the league, a sweep for either team would go along way in avoiding the basement area. I'm taking the Seawolves to take both games, why you ask? One, Alaska is a long road/air trip, so that is a factor, and two, I think UAA has some confidence after winning two games last weekend.

In NON-CONFERENCE match-ups, we have CC playing at Clarkson, with should be a pair of wins for the Tigers. Denver hosts Ohio State, in what should be some wins for the Pioneers. That would set up for a #1 vs #2 match-up over the Halloween weekend, oooh spooky :) The other tilt features SCSU at Bemidji State, I don't think the Beavers are as good as they have been the past few years, I'll take the Huskies to win the pair.
