UND vs. UNO (UND goals 1/30/2015)

“We didn’t play a full 60 minutes, but in the third period, we came out and played desperate hockey and showed what kind of team we are,” Caggiula said. “When you lose a game in overtime, it’s never going to sit well. But we have to play a full 60 minutes, like we did in the third period, and I think we’ll have a better result tomorrow.” (Grand Forks Herald)

Friday Links UNO vs. UND

Epic series this weekend in Omaha, Nebraska. UND takes on the Red Mavs in an important two-game conference series. Should be an exciting series. #hateundweek

UND Hate Week in Omaha :)

Ah yes... It's "Hate UND Week" on ESPN 590 AM Omaha. So, if you haven't heard this, you might want to listen to it at the 31:00 mark of the embedded broadcast.

For some interesting hockey analysis from a UNO fan's perspective  you can check out MAV PUCK.

This should be a good series of hockey, both teams hate each other and it should be a rough series. Both games will be on TV and for those with DirecTV, you will be able to watch Friday's game on CBSSN and Saturday's game on Fox College Sports.

If you haven't seen it, Ryan Lambert of Puck Daddy has been taking hacks at UNO all season long.
Meanwhile, the poor-but-they-keep-winning-anyway Omaha Mavericks swept Denver.

Omaha will fall off, but might have enough points banked that it doesn't make a difference. North Dakota is better but still not great.

Collin Adams Committs to UND

Collin Adams a 16-year old forward from Brighton, MI, has committed to play for UND. Below, is his Elite Prospects page.

Good News for UND Hockey Fans: MidcoSN Adds Saturday's Game at Omaha

This is very good news for UND hockey fans. Friday's game in on CBSSN and Saturday's game is on FCS and MidcoSN.

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Midco Sports Network (MidcoSN) announced today that it will add North Dakota’s men’s hockey game at Omaha on Saturday, Jan. 31, to its live television broadcast schedule.

MidcoSN has reached an agreement with NET Nebraska in Lincoln and will air its production of the game on Midco Sports Network channel 622 (HD) and 26 (SD). Dave Ahlers and former UNO hockey player David Brisson will call the action beginning at 7 p.m.

Friday’s game can be seen live nationally on CBS Sports Network, which is also available to DirecTV and DISH Network subscribers. Ben Holden handles the play-by-play and is joined by analyst Dave Starman and rinkside reporter Shireen Saski.

With 10 games remaining in the regular season, top-ranked North Dakota trails fifth-ranked Omaha by one point for first place in the National Collegiate Hockey Conference (NCHC) standings.

Minnesota Wild: Goalie Devan Dubnyk Stops Justin Schultz (video)

Check out this amazing save by Minnesota Wild goalie Devan Dubnyk as he stops former Wisconsin Badger and current Edmonton Oilers defenseman Justin Schultz. I guess if I was the Wild general manager, I would be looking for a way to Cut Niklas Backstrom and signing Dubnyk.

Montreal Canadiens Alexei Emelin Hits Jason Spezza (Video)

I am sure that Montreal Canadiens fans are very quiet tonight after watching this transpire.
I am not a fan of Canadiens defenseman Alexei Emelin, can't stand the kind of player that he is.

That being said, I am not necessarily suggesting the league suspend the Habs defenseman, but I just want to illustrate that he's not a clean player. This is a dangerous hit that need to be punished more severely. I do like that fact that the officials gave him a five-minute major. I believe it was the right call in this situation.

It will be interesting to see if the league give him anything especially after he was fined in November by the NHL's Department of Players Safety.

Rob Klinkhammer's knee-to-knee hit on Matt Cooke (Gif)

I suppose there's not a lot of people that are going to feel sorry for Minnesota Wild forward Matt Cook. I also don't blame them, but this isn't a clean hit at all. This is a dirty knee-to-knee leg check.

Minnesota Wild: Zach Parise Takes A Puck To Mouth In Edmontonb (Video & Vine)

The life of a hockey players is tough. It looks like Minnesota Wild forward Zach Parise lost some teeth in this incident because he bends over to pick them up off of the ice. My mouth hurts watching this. Check out the vine embedded below, it illustrates this really well.

Philadelphia Flyers: Zac Rinaldo has been suspended for eight games

Zac Rinaldo is a reckless player and I was hoping that his suspension was going to be longer than eight games. To be honest with you, I was hoping that Rinaldo was going to be suspended for 10 games.

Do you think Rinaldo's suspension is long enough, or would you like it to be longers, too?

The Department of Players Safety has levied some stiff penalties in the last week. Chicago Blackhawks forward Daniel Carcillo was given a six-game suspension for cross-checking Winnipeg Jets forward Mathieu Perreault. Both players are repeat offenders. No this 8 game suspension for Rinaldo.

USCHO.com Division I Men's Poll

UND returns to the top spot in the nation, but I wouldn't be surprised to see them drop after this weekend if they lose in Omaha. The only poll that matter is the Pairwise Ranking. After this weekend, UND is ranked second in that poll behind MSU-M.

Traditional Circle of Sticks. UND Sweeps out C.C.

A photo posted by Eric J. Burton (@eric.burton.94801) on

That's two sweeps in two weekends of hockey. UND has now won five games in a row and is 8-2 in their last 10 games. UND improves to (18-5-2, 9-4-1 NCHC).

C.C. vs. UND Lines - Game Two

Almost the same lineup as last night, Colten St. Clair is in for Wade Murphy. Tonight's game is on Fox College Sports Pacific, DirecTV 608 and DISH Network 452.

MSU-M 4 UMN 2 (Maverick goals)

After watching the video, I can see why the Gophers are having a tough time.

It's pretty simple, if the Gophers don't start winning hockey games, they will be sitting home for the NCAA tournament.

Right now, they're not a good hockey team.

It's kind of puzzling. Minnesota returned most of the team that went to the Frozen Four last season and finished as the runner-up.

After you watch these goals, you will see why the Gophers losing. They're getting beat to pucks. They're not strong on pucks. They're losing the battles. They're not going to the hard areas.

The Gophers All-American goaltender Adam Wilcox looks human. Wilcox is getting beat by shots at the top of the faceoff dots. That didn't happen last season.

Stephon Williams Knocks Net Off

Minnesota State Mavericks goalie Stephon Williams didn't like the fact that his teammate was laying on the ice as play continued. Williams did the veteran move and knocked the goal off it's moorings.

"I was willing to take a delay of game (penalty) to get him off the ice and get fresh guys on --get a break," Williams said. "Wasn't really wasn't aware of the penalty shot rule. It was just an impulse reaction, something I am not going to make a habit out of, obviously."

UND 2 C.C. 1 (UND goals)

The University of North Dakota improved to 17-5-2 with the 2-1 win against the Colorado College Tigers on Friday night.

Last night, UND also scored its nation-leading 9th shorthanded goal of the year. Four players have two shorthanded goals. Also, four of those shorthanded goals have been game-winning goals.

NDK 1 - 1 6x6 Mark MacMillan (12) (Michael Parks/16, Andrew Panzarella/3) 16:23
NDK 2 - 1 5x6 SH GW LL Michael Parks (9) (unassisted)

UND vs. C.C. Game One - with Links

Looks like the same lineup as last weekend. Tonight, Johnny Simonson sits along with Trevor Olson, and Colton St. Clair who are still recovering from illness and injury.

Taking Care of Your Favorite Jersey

The one thing that sports fans know is that one of the most coveted pieces of sports memorabilia you can own is your favorite player's jersey. Sometimes sports fans are happy with a jersey they can buy from the store, but many other serious collectors will seek out that signed, game-worn jersey of their dreams. If you happen to have a very valuable jersey, you will want to take special care of it so that it can last a lifetime and just keep going up in value.

Keep it Away from Potential Hazards

The best way to keep your one-of-a-kind sports jersey safe is to make sure that you keep it in a place where it is away from potential hazards. These potential hazards can include water damage, smoke damage and fading from the sun. The best way to keep your jersey clean, safe and protected is to find a display case that will let you enjoy looking at it while still keeping your investment safe.

Protect it With a Display Case

A way to protect your jersey is a must, especially if you have put a significant investment in a rare jersey. You can choose from a variety jersey display cases that will give your jersey the protection it needs. You can find jersey cases that will display just the jersey itself that you can hang on the wall. If you have a small collection of other items, you can choose a jersey display case that serves as a shadow box so that you can include your whole collection into one display case.

To find the display case that is right for your jersey, make sure that it is the right size of the type of jersey you own. You will also want to consider whether you want to include a photo of your favorite player or a plaque into the display case with the jersey. Finally, you should make sure that the glass as some sort of UV barrier so that you can prevent fading from harsh lighting conditions.

Once you have to your jersey inside the the display case, you can put it together with all of your other sports collectibles to give any room in your home or your office a touch of pride for your favorite tea
