Indiana Ice forward Aidan Muir scores a nice goal from his knees....
Indiana Ice forward Aidan Muir scores a nice goal on the a backhand while he's falling down. Simply an amazing goal. I would have to say that this is one of the top goals of the year, so far.

UND Hockey: If the season ended today, and it doesn't end today... But....
As I have said before, there's a lot of college hockey season left and when some were panicking, I wasn't. If season ended today and it doesn't, UND would make the NCAA tourney. With the five-game win streak, the 4-2-2 non-conference things look "okay" for UND. Now, I am not going to make any bracketology blog posts or anything like that, but I am just putting things into perspective.

WMU's Josh Pitt goes Coast To Coast Goal vs Michigan
Sweet goal by Western Michigan forward Josh Pitt, as he goes coast-to-coast against the Michigan Wolverines. That was also the game-winning goal in overtime, to vault WMU a 3-2 win. WMU will face MTU in tomorrow's championship game of the Great Lakes Invitational. That's goal number seven on the year for Pitt.

Minnesota Wild: Parise might have to miss some time
The hits keep coming for the Minnesota Wild. Wild. Forward Zach Parise is injured and will need to rest his injured foot. Going into the break, the Wild were 4-6-0 in their last 10 games. The Wild are also starving for offense and secondary scoring and have scored a measly 22 goals in the last 15 games. That's not going to win a lot of hockey games in any league.
Michael Russo, Rsso's Rants -- For a team that lacks confidence and has 22 goals in the past 15 games and must dig deep and figure out a way to stop the bleeding and climb back into the top-8, Parise's absence comes out a bad time.
Parise blocked a shot by Alex Steen on Nov. 25. Coincidentally - or maybe not, the Wild is 5-9-1 since and 1-7-1, including that game in St. Louis, on the road since.
Parise was supposed to miss two to three weeks because of the bum foot but instead missed one game because he felt he could play through the injury and because of how difficult a stretch of games the Wild had coming up.
Commendable, but Parise was clearly playing through pain and the last week to 10 days, his off-ice limp was getting more and more pronounced. You could see it on the ice, too.
My educated guess is Parise will now need to stay off the foot for a little while so it doesn't linger any longer. How long? No clue, but this time doctors may have more say than Parise.

Kyle "Bubba" Schweigert named head coach of North Dakota football program
Merry Christmas from Goon's World, UND has a new football coach...
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Athletics Director Brian Faison announced on Tuesday that Kyle “Bubba” Schweigert has been named head football coach at the University of North Dakota.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Athletics Director Brian Faison announced on Tuesday that Kyle “Bubba” Schweigert has been named head football coach at the University of North Dakota.
Schweigert will be formally introduced as the 26th
head coach in UND history at a press conference on Friday, Dec. 27 at 10 a.m.
at the Alerus Center. The Zeeland, N.D., native returns to Grand Forks after 10
years away from a program that he helped lead to the 2001 NCAA Division II
national title as defensive coordinator.
Most recently, Schweigert was the defensive
coordinator at Southern Illinois for the previous six seasons (2008-13) and served
as associate head coach for the last five of that stretch. His 2010 defense led
the Missouri Valley in total defense and his unit finished in the top half of
the league in four of his six campaigns at SIU.
In
his six seasons at SIU, Schweigert has had three first team All-Americans and
20 all-conference selections (10 first team, six second team, four honorable
mention). His defensive standouts have included linebacker and 2012 graduate Jayson DiManche, currently playing for Cincinnati
Bengals, and cornerback Korey Lindsey, a three-time All-American and a
2011 draft pick of the Bengals. In 2013, SIU linebacker Bryan Presume earned first team All-MVFC honors after
ranking third in the league with 104 tackles. His 55 solo stops were tops in
the conference.
“It is truly an honor and a privilege to serve
the University of North Dakota as its head football coach,” said Schweigert. “I
am looking forward to hiring a staff and building a program that will represent
UND in a first-class manner, both on and off the field.
“We will put forth great effort to facilitate
positive relations with fans, alumni, the community and the student body,”
Schweigert added. “We look forward to playing exciting championship football in
front of thousands of loyal fans as we strive to win the Big Sky Conference
championship and, ultimately, reach the pinnacle of FCS football.”
Prior to reuniting with head coach Dale Lennon at
SIU, Schweigert took on his first head coaching job at the collegiate level,
leading the Division II program at Minnesota Duluth from 2004-07. He guided the
Bulldogs to a 21-20 overall record during his tenure, including the program’s
first North Central Conference title in 2005. The NCAA playoff berth that
season was the program’s second in four seasons. That same season, Schweigert
was also named the D2football.com Northwest Region Coach of the Year and the
AFCA Division II Coach of the Year for Region 5.
Schweigert was elevated to defensive coordinator at
UND prior to the 1999 season and left for Duluth after the 2003 UND team
finished as national runner-up. Schweigert was named the American Football
Coaches Association Division II Assistant Coach of the Year in 2000.
“Coach
Schweigert brings a wealth of coaching experience, is a proven recruiter, an
effective communicator and has an incredible passion for the game and for the success
of his student-athletes on the field and in the classroom,” said Faison. “From
defense to offense to special teams, his philosophy is great: ATTACK.”
Schweigert began his coaching career at his alma
mater, now Jamestown University, from 1985-1988. He earned a bachelor’s degree
in business administration from Jamestown and a master’s degree from UND. In
2002, he was honored with Jamestown’s Rollie Greeno Award for outstanding
commitment in the field of education and coaching.
Schweigert
and his wife, Laura, have two sons, Alex and Cooper.
Friday’s press conference will be held on suite level
at the Alerus Center

Buffalo Sabres: Mark Pysyk Goal. Butt goal.....
Wow! I have never seen anything like this. This is Wild. This is the description of the goal from the Buffalo Sabres site. You may never seen anything like this again.
Mark Pysyk, who was recalled from the American Hockey League on Monday afternoon, was credited with the game-winning goal when Coyotes forward Martin Hanzal knocked a loose puck out of the air and into goalie Mike Smith's hockey pants.
Smith slid backward into the net to prevent a rebound opportunity not knowing the puck was in his equipment. A review of the play confirmed the puck crossed the line.
Time to nix the bench cellys
Don Cherry talks about this in this past week's Coach's Corner. Don Cherry said, "Act like you scored before." There's not reason to fly by the benches and high-five. ... Teams like the Wild and the Blues are starting to discontinue the practice and I think it's a good idea.
Dan O'Neill, Post Dispatch --- Perhaps you noticed during the last two games, wins over Nashville and Winnipeg. When the line of David Backes, Alexander Steen and T.J Oshie have been on the ice for Blues’ goals — and that has been the case on six occasions — there has been no skate to the bench for a Conga line of high-fives.
There has been the traditional raised arms, the traditional hugs and smiles among those involved. And there has been a return to positions for the drop of the puck. In short, the Blues act like they’ve been there before, and aspire to be there again.
“That came from a few gentlemen who used to play here,” Backes said. “They felt like the going through the line thing was a high school, college type of play.
Chris Kreider scores on Wild goalie Backstrom
I was watching this game last night and I had to stop watching it, I ended up watching the World of Outlaws World Finals. Minnesota Wild goalie Niklas Backstrom was brutal, nothing short of horrible. Especially on this goal by Chris Kreider. I mean seriously, this is a very weak goal. I would expect a goalie of Backstrom skill set to stop this. This is a shot that Kreider completely whiffs on. Let's not forget that Backstrom is being paid a lot of money to stink up the joint.

Apparently, an unhappy Edmonton Oilers fans threw their Oilers jersey on the ice after Saturday’s 6-0 loss to the St. Louis Blues. The Edmonton Oiler head coach Dallas Eakins has caused a fire storm when he said this. This will probably blow up ever more as the day progresses.

Team Canda: Matt Dumba "will not" be disciplined further for kneeing Karlsson
Team Canada got some good news today. Their defenseman Matt Dumba "will not" be suspended for kneeing Sweden's Erik Karlsson. Dumba is the only member of team Canada that is currently an NHL player.
TSN.CA -- Hockey Canada was informed by the International Ice Hockey Federation on Monday that defenceman Mathew Dumba will not be disciplined further for kneeing forward Erik Karlsson during Team Canada's 3-0 loss to Sweden in a pre-tournament game for the World Junior Hockey Championship.
Dumba was given a five-minute major penalty and a game misconduct for the incident.
Any suspension would have been a blow to Canada's defence, which already has Griffin Reinhart serving a three-game suspension once the World Junior tournament begins on Boxing Day.
