Stephane Robidas Horrific Leg Injury vs Chicago

This is a gruesome injury to say the least. If you have weak stomach, you might not want to watch this video. On thing about the sport of hockey, if you watch the sport long enough, you will see something like happen.
Mike Heika, Dallas News-- Most of it, however, was washed away by the loss of Robidas.

“It didn’t look good,” Ruff said. “Robi is a battler, and he’s been playing really hard for us.”

Robidas was diving to stop a pass from Chicago’s Jonathan Toews as the two skated hard toward the Stars’ goal line. Robidas’ right

leg was pinned underneath his body and was twisted when it hit the boards. Robidas immediately grimaced in pain and pointed to his

right leg. He was taken to a hospital, and Ruff said Robidas has a fractured bone in his leg.

North Dakota Slips Past St. Lawrence

Grand Forks, ND – The University of North Dakota hockey team came into tonight’s game mired in a horrible slump, going 2-7-1 in their last 10 games.
After last night’s 5-2 loss to the St. Lawrence Saints, the UND hockey team had a closed door meeting to air their differences.
Tonight, alternate captain Stephane Pattyn gave us a glimpse of what was said.
“Yeah, yesterday was kind of just an open floor,” Pattyn said. “Everyone talked and gave their thoughts about what we needed to do. We had some great conversations. We definitely grew up as a team last night and I think today’s (win) helped too.”
It appeared that the closed door meeting worked.  Through two periods of play, the UND hockey team played on their toes and took the play to the St. Lawrence Saints.
UND got goals from forwards Rocco Grimaldi, Connor Gaarder and Stephane Pattyn, and would take a 3-1 lead going into the third period.
St. Lawrence pushed hard in the third period, and cut the lead to 3-2 with a goal by the national scoring leader, Greg Carey. UND was able to hold off a late surge by the Saints to get the 3-2 win.
After the game, head coach Dave Hakstol didn’t seem to relish the win all that much.
“Real hard fought game,” head coach Dave Hakstol said. “We competed hard for 60-minutes. They pushed real hard in the last portion of the third period. We wanted to come back and do a little better tonight. I thought we did a little better.”
So far this season, UND has dug themselves into a hole with undisciplined play.
“We needed to come out like that,” Pattyn said. “We need to prove ourselves. A game like today was going to move us a step forward. We’ve dug ourselves in a hole so far this season and today’s one small step out of that hole.”
Pattyn continued, “That last 24-hours weren’t that much fun. Not much excitement going on in our dressing room. But we got focused and we knew we had to come out and do a job. We put a lot of pressure on ourselves today, to come out, to come out hard. Our steps are moving forward right now.”
Coming into tonight’s game, UND was 0-4-2 on Saturday nights. With the win tonight, UND improved that record to 1-4-2.
UND goalie Zane Gothberg stopped 25-of-27 shots and improved his record to 3-5-2 with the win. The sophomore goalie made many big saves late in the game to preserve the win.

Notes of interest

With the win tonight, UND is 3-6-1 in the last 10 games. With the win, UND improves to 5-7-2.
UND is 2-2-2 in non-conference play.
St Lawrence forward Greg Carey had an impressive weekend, scoring (2g-4a—6pts) on the weekend. Carey is the NCAA points leader with (11g-18a—29pts).
This was UND’s second win of the season when they score three or fewer goals.
UND has gone 1-0-1 the last two Saturday night’s.
Next weekend, UND travels to Kalamazoo to take on the Western Michigan Broncos December 6-7, 2013, game time is 6:07 central.

St. Lawrence Pastes North Dakota

Grand Forks, ND – The mood was very somber after last night’s non-conference game between the University of North Dakota and St. Lawrence. The players held a closed door meeting after the game. UND caption Dillon Simpson wouldn’t say what they talked about during the meeting.

“We’ll keep that in the room,” Simpson said. “But guys are upset in there.”

UND head coach Dave Hakstol was not very happy with the over-all performance of his hockey team.

But why would he?

UND had just suffered a lackluster 5-2 loss in the first game of the Subway Holiday Classic.
“Not a very good performance by our team,” head coach Dave Haskstol.

The head coach continued. “Not a very good performance over-all by our team,”Hakstol said. “We didn’t do very much in the first two periods. We tried to mount a little push in the third period, but it wasn’t enough.”

All around, it was a rough night for the UND hockey team, as they found themselves flatfooted, and on their heels most of the night. Credit the St. Lawrence Saints; they were the better team all night long. The Saints went 3-for-6 (.500) on the power play. The Saints also outshot UND 25-23.

Special teams were a difference in last night’s game.  UND went 1-for9 on the power play, and again took undisciplined penalties at key times in the game.

“It’s frustrating,” Simpson said. “Something we’re going to study a lot (game film) tomorrow morning I am sure. We got to have a good night if we want to win games, our power play has to be good, and our “PK” has to be even better.”

One of the turning points in the game was in the third period. UND had a five-on-three power play for 44 second, but Saints were able to kill it off. If the head coach didn’t have his team’s attention before last night’s game, he probably does now. It was obvious that the loss didn’t sit well with the players.

“Disappointing, didn’t come out the way we wanted to,” Simpson said. “We didn’t play the first forty the way we wanted to. Got to have a better effort tomorrow night.”

The UND head coach was asked if there would be changes to the lineup for tonight’s game.

“You’ll see some changes, Hakstol said. We’ll likely make a change or two.”

Rough patch for UND

UND has gone 2-7-1 in its last 10 games and is winless in four games. According to UND SID Jayson Hajdu, this is UND’s worst 10-game stretch under head coach Dave Hakstol. This is also the worst stretch for UND, since the second half of the 2002-03 season, when UND went 1-7-2.

Notes of interest

Coming into the game, UND had gone an impressive 6-0-2 record in the last eight games of the Subway Holiday Classic.

With four points in last night’s game, forward Greg Carey of St. Lawrence , is now the leading the nation (10g-18a—28pts) in scoring.

UND is (1-2-2) in non-conference play this season. UND is (1-1-1) against the ECAC.
In the last six games, UND’s penalty kill is 25-for-36 (69.4).

UND has another chance to right the ship tonight at 7:05 p.m. central at Ralph Engelstad Arena

Minnesota Wild: Zach Parise tell the Injury Ninja to kiss off

Apparently, former Fighting Sioux All-American forward Zach Parise has a very high tolerance to pain and will be playing in tonight's game against the Colorado Avalanche. Originally, Parise was slated to be out 2-3 weeks. This is good news for the Minnesota Wild.

What's going to happen to Don Cherry?

One of the major questions surrounding the deal between Rogers Communications and CBC is whether Don Cherry will be able to remain after the dust has settled. Not a lot has been said about Cherry’s status as of yet. When I read that Rogers denies it is distancing itself from the notoriously outspoken sportscaster. I am immediately skeptical.
Canadian Press – While it's too early to nail down who will headline the flagship Saturday night show, Moore said CBC and Sportsnet have "some of the best talent in the business" and he looks forward to bringing the two teams together.

Cherry has so far held off weighing in on the deal or his possible involvement, saying he's been left out of any behind-the-scenes discussions and doesn't know "what's going on."

He is expected to address the matter in his Coach's Corner segment Saturday.

In an interview with CBC on Thursday, however, the high-profile hockey commentator brushed off rumours predicting his retirement.

"They've been saying that for 30 years," he said. "I know I'm No. 1 and Coach's Corner is No. 1 and what are you going to do?"

That Cherry was kept in the dark regarding the show he's largely defined for a generation of Canadians suggests his time in the spotlight may be running out, said Edgar Baum, general manager of Brand Finance. "The abruptness of how this happened was a surprise. It appears to me on the surface... that they don't wish to continue with Don," he said.

"Maybe something's going to get negotiated or... maybe they would like to discontinue that era and find somebody new," he said.

"It's up to Rogers to figure out how they want to create that identity, but I definitely think an icon of Canadian hockey broadcasting may be seeing his last season."

Whether the company can oust a fan favourite without alienating viewers hinges on how it orchestrates the transition—and who it puts forth in his place, Baum said.
I am sure we will find out sooner, rather than later, what is going to happen to the iconic Don Cherry. Seems as if there no grey area surrounding Don Cherry, fans either love him, or hate him. I hope that Hockey Night in Canada keeps him on board.

Minnesota Wild: Injury Ninja visits Wild again

You have to watch out for the Injury Ninja. According to Pro Sports Daily, Mikael Granlund is out with a concussion after missing two-games due to another injury. Granlund’s game lasted a whole 29-seconds.
Pro Sports Daily -- "I feel horrible for him," Zucker said. "It's a battle, and I hope he gets better soon and can figure it out quickly, because that's not something anyone wants to see happen to anybody.

"Coach Mike Yeo termed it an upper body injury but said it has been nagging for at least the past three games. Granlund was cleared to play Wednesday for the first time in a week, but it came with a warning.

"He was cleared to play with the idea that we wanted to be careful and think about the big picture," Yeo said.

"Sometimes things happen."Yeo didn't want to look ahead to next week, when Granlund will be eligible to come off injured reserve. He said the team has been looking daily for too long at whether Granlund would play, so now they want to give him some time off.

"Could I sit here in hindsight and wish he didn't play? Of course," Yeo said. "But when a guy is cleared to play, what are you going to do? Are you going to say no?" - See more at:
According to Michael Russo, Minnesota Wild forward Mikael Granlund has been put on the injured reserve and is expected to miss about three games, probably more. This isn't good news for the Minnesota Wild.

UND vs. SLU: Sifting through the numbers

Looking at the series ahead, UND’s (4-6-2, 3-5-0 NCHC) next opponent St. Lawrence (7-5-2, 2-2-2 ECAC) comes into this weekend’s two-game non-conference series, having lost three out of the last four games. During the month of November, the Saints have a 3-3-2 record.

UND’s month of November, the Green and White has had its problems as well. UND owns a 2-5-1 record and have gone 2-2-1 in their last five games. UND is 2-3-1 at home and 2-3-1 on the road this season. Lastly, UND has a 1-1-2 record in non-conference games so far this season.

St. Lawrence is the 4th ranked offense nationally, but are ranked 52nd nationally on defense. SLU’s power play is ranked fourth in the nation, but their penalty kill not so good and is ranked 49th. SLU has scored 54 goals for and given up 51 goals against.

UND is ranked 36th nationally on offense and 45th nationally on defense. UND’s power play is ranked at 29th nationally. On the flip side, they’re ranked 10th nationally on the penalty kill. UND has scored 32 goals for and given up 39 goals against.

Something has got to give. With SLU’s poor defense, you have to think that UND’s forwards would be licking their lips this weekend, with anticipation.

Historically Speaking
UND has had some great success in the Subway Holiday Classic. UND has a 6-0-2 record in its last eight games. Last year, UND swept the Holy Cross Crusaders (5-2 and 3-2) Subway Holiday Classic. Incidentally, that was UND’s only sweep of the season at home last season.

Here’s some ticket Information UND hockey office. Go out and buy your tickets for this weekend’s non-conference series.
Reserved seating and general admission tickets remain available for both games this weekend.

Additionally, a special “Black Friday” promotion will be available on Friday morning. From 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Friday, all remaining upper bowl seats will be sold for $20 for adults and $15 for children/youth.

Tickets can be purchased at the UND Box Office at Ralph Engelstad Arena or online at Ticketmaster.com.

Insect Repelling clothing

Last night, I was surfing the Internet when I came across this website Insect Shield. I found this product to be pretty interesting. Being an active person, this kind of clothing could come in handy. As one who likes the outdoors, we do spent a lot of time fighting off biting insects. I am surprised, I haven't heard about this kind of clothing, until now. I remember one duck season opener and it was 80+ degrees and the Mosquitos were really bad. It almost drove us out of the field. This kind of clothing would have come in clothing, no one wants to bath in deet. Yuck!

Nothing bugs me more than trying to line-up a putt on the golf course, but missing this sure thing give-me putt, because you were getting hammered by mosquitos. I am sure you can imagine your favorite golf hole(s), that Mosquitos are a problem on.  I am thinking of par-three 16th hole at Kings Walk, which has a huge Mosquito breeding lake sitting next to it. At dark, the Mosquitos come out in droves and smoke you. Causing you to do a dance, I call it the Mosquito Macarena.

There's nothing that you can do about it right? looks like Insect Shield could solve that problem for you.

Whether, I am on the golf course, or sitting on the porch at the hunting shack, or simply walking the dog down by the Red River. Propelling bugs is a full time job, during the summer months, especially if you live in the North Country.

I am going to give it a try and see if it works.

Which insects does Insect Shield repel?
Insect Shield® Repellent Apparel has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, ants, flies, chiggers, and midges (no-see-ums). Insect Shield® Repellent Gear has been proven and registered to repel mosquitoes, ticks, fleas, and flies. The EPA requires extensive effectiveness data to prove a product's ability to repel insects. Many species and varieties of these insects have been tested, including those that can carry dangerous diseases.

Here’s something that I found to be essential as well.  Outer wear gets dirty and washing clothing repeatedly wears out your clothing and fast.

Durable
The repellency of Insect Shield apparel is EPA-registered to last through 70 launderings—the expected lifetime of a garment. This is also well beyond the life of most performance finishes commonly used in the technical-apparel industry.

Weekend Match-Ups (by Donn)

I Hope everyone is having an awesome Thanksgiving.  Here is a little hockey for you to digest today too.

Non-Conference Games

#20 New Hampshire (7-6-1) @ Colorado College (1-8-2)
Last weekend the Tigers managed a point (2-2ot, 6-2L) against the Huskies in St. Cloud and the Wildcats split with the Providence Friars (3-2Wot, 4-2L) in Providence.

In this battle of the felines, I’m going with the visitors from Hockey East.  The CC Tigers could try and borrow the old Exxon commercial saying, “It’s like putting a tiger in your tank.”  Oops, they should change it to, “The Tigers have Tanked.”… WILDCATS SWEEP

#13 Miami (7-6-1) @ Bemidji St. (5-7-2)
Last weekend the RedHawks were swept (6-3, 3-1) by the Mavericks in Omaha and the Beavers split with Lake Superior (3-1L, 2-1Wot) in Bemidji.

The RedHawks have lost three in a row, but the good news is they have BSU this weekend, which is something they should be thankful for.  The Beavers play well at home in the Sanford center, but the RedHawks have too much talent and should overwhelm the Beavers this holiday weekend.  REDHAWK SWEEP

St. Lawrence (7-5-2) at North Dakota (4-6-2)
Last weekend NoDak earned a point (3-1L, 3-3ot) against the Terriers in Boston and the Saints split with RIT (5-3W, 6-4L) in Rochester, NY.

Some background on the Saints – they play in the ECAC, they are located in  Canton, NY, the University was founded in 1856, and they have an enrollment of about 2,000, they play on a NHL sheet and it seats about 3,000 fans.

NoDak is winless in their last three games, and SLU has lost three of their last four games, so both teams should be hungry for some wins this weekend.  Unfortunately I think the visitors are going to leave with an empty tummy.  NODAK SWEEP

Shillelagh Tournament

Western Michigan (5-5-2) vs Northeastern (8-5-0)
Last weekend the Broncos swept (2-0, 4-1) the MSU Spartans in a home-and-home series and the Huskies

The Broncos have been, well, let’s call it streaky so far this year, win a couple, loss a couple.  Same could be said for the Huskies this season.  I don’t have a clue in this one, so I’ll let my magic 8-ball pick it… Broncos Win

The other game is Notre Dame (8-5-1) vs UA-Huntsville (0-12-0), which ND should win.  So it is the winners on Friday play for the title on Saturday and the loser play for third on Saturday.

So with the predictions, that means WMU will play ND and NU will play UAH.  Thus we have the Irish winning the tournament and the Chargers not winning a game.

UND Injury Update

This weekend, when the University of North Dakota (4-6-2, 3-5-0 NCHC) plays St. Lawrence University (7-5-2, 2-2-2 ECAC), in a two-game non-conference match-up, they will be without the services of some key forwards, and could be playing defensemen in their place again this weekend.  The move actually seemed to work last weekend against the BU Terriers.

First, there is some good news. “(Brendan) O’Donnell should be available, he’s practiced all week,” Hakstol said.

“(Derek) Rodwell, (Mark) MacMillan and (Colton) St. Clair are unavailable (this weekend),” Coach Dave Hakstol said.
