Bruins Marc Savard is out with another concussion

This is the hit that put Bruins center Marc Savard on the shelf and out with another concussion, this is his second of the season. Marc Savard has missed 23 games to start this season. The irony in this is the hit came from the shoulder of former Bruins teammate and former Michigan Wolverine Matt Hunwick who was traded to the Av's this season. There was also no penalty called on the hit. I was also surprised that no one challenged Hunwick for the hit.
ESPN.COM --- Bruins center Marc Savard has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out indefinitely, general manager Peter Chiarelli confirmed Monday night.
"After being examined by the Bruins medical staff today, Marc has been diagnosed with a moderate concussion," Chiarelli said Monday night. "There is no timetable on his return and no further updates at this time."

Savard is expected to be re-evaluated after this weekend's All-Star break. This is the fourth concussion of his career.

Savard crashed head-first into the end boards early in the second period in Saturday's game against the Colorado Avalanche and did not return. He left the team and went home to Boston on Sunday to be examined by team doctors Monday.

Savard also took a blow to the head Jan. 15 on a hit by Pittsburgh Penguins defenseman Deryk Engelland, but continued to play.
I have watched this video numerous times and it would probably be a penalty in college but in the NHL it's questionable hit and you probably won't get a penalty on the hit, I bet you can ask 10 fans and you probably wouldn't get much consensus on the hit either.

Bruins looking to trade Wheeler and Savard?

This is a rumor that was floated out there on Pro Hockey Talk. As a Bruins fan and a Gopher hater I would love to see Blake Wheeler sent packing but I don't see Marc Savard being trade especially when he has a no trade clause.
Pro Hockey Talk has learned of a possible trade in the works, with the Boston Bruins dealing Blake Wheeler and Marc Savard to the Columbus Blue Jackets in exchange for the fourth overall pick in the 2010 NHL Entry Draft. It's likely that the Bruins would also include their 15th overall pick in the deal as well, leaving Boston with both the second and fourth pick in the first round.

Talking to another source, PHT was told that the Blue Jackets are interested in trading away their pick, although as of now there is nothing concrete in the works as far as a trade goes. Considering how reliable our source is for the information regarding this trade proposal, it seems as though there is certainly something substantial in the works although there is no guarantee this is going down. It's also important to note that Boston including that 15th pick isn't certain, although you wonder if Wheeler and Savard alone are worth the 4th. So you'd think something else would have to come back Boston's way, although I doubt they're looking to take on much salary in this trade. [Read the rest of the article]
Apparently there is some merit to this rumor, you have to wonder if Columbus approached the Bruins GM Peter Chiarelli and asked him if he would be willing to trade Wheeler and Savard for the fourth over all pick. Chiarelli probably said go pound sand up your ass. I don't think it makes any sense what so ever. Savard is one of the faces of the Bruins organization and one of their top forwards.
Our story yesterday on the rumored trade proposal between Columbus and Boston caused a bit of stir and if nothing else left people scratching their heads a bit. Before writing up the story, I double checked with my source on the information he was giving me and then posted the proposed trade that would leave Boston with the 2nd and 4th pick in next week's draft. This morning I followed up, and was assured that this was a proposal that "has been discussed" by Boston and Columbus.[Pro Hockey Talk]
Honestly this sounds like something Eklund from hockey buzz would dream up e1, e2, e3, e4 something like, sounds good but not going to happen.

More on bite gate. (Carcillo and Savard)

This video is worth a look; more on bite gate. It's almost like a couple of children on the play ground having a spat. Apparently Flyers forward Mike Richards threatened Marc Savard on is way to the penalty box. Savard is denying the claim. This series is heating up.
Bruins center Marc Savard has denied a report that said Flyers captain Mike Richards threatened on Monday night to knock him you "for another six weeks."

"No he never said that to me," Savard told NESN.com's James Murphy at practice on Tuesday. "I don't know where that came from."

The original report said that Richards approached Savard as the B's pivot was making his way to the penalty box, saying: "You were out for six weeks? We'll put you out for another six weeks."

Though it appeared to be the latest chapter in the brewing distaste growing between the Flyers and Bruins, Savard has quieted the storm. At least until Wednesday night.

Carcillo accuses Savard of biting him

Carcillo is one of the biggest hacks to ever play the game. Carcillo was diving up and down the ice last night and turtled when challenged.
BOSTON – Things are getting interesting between the Bruins and the Flyers.

The biggest incident from Monday night’s Game Two stemmed from a heated scrap between Marc Savard and Daniel Carcillo after the whistle had blown in the second period.

Carcillo threw a forearm shot to the side of Savard’s head in Savard's second game back from a Grade 2 concussion, but that was only the tip of the iceberg in a scuffle that took a turn for the bizarre.

Savard got tangled between Carcillo and Flyers defenseman Kimmo Timonen, and ended up being the only player called for roughing after the testy exchange in the second period.

And that’s where things started getting really interesting.

Carcillo went back to the bench, took off his glove and flashed his pinky at both the refs and Chris Pronger while claiming Savard bit him during the fracas in the corner of the Philly zone.

Savard ready to return - who will the Bruins play next?

There is a very good chance the Bruins are going to play the Penguins in the next round because I think the Canadians are going to be hard pressed to beat the Capitals tonight, it could happen but It’s unlikely that the Canadians advance.

The emerging story line is Matt Cooke versus Marc Savard and the Bruins, most of us don't need to bring up the incident that led to the Marc Savard's concussion. We are well aware of it and I am sure the Penguins fans remember it as well. None the less, this discussion is becoming more prevalent with the prospects of Marc Savard returning from injury; both of players will end up being on the ice at the same time. It's just a matter of time.

I predict that if Matt Cooke even comes near Savard he is going to get blasted and I welcome it. I would love to see Milan Lucic go Evander Kane on Cooke. While I think Cooke is a disgusting piece of camel dung and the lowest of life forms, I don't want to see the Bruins spending all of their time trying to knock the crap out of Matt Cooke; they have to pick their places that won’t affect the team in a negative manner.

Savard and Bruins in contract talks.

The Boston Bruins better think long and hard, without Marc Savard in their line up they are having a tough time scoring goals, frankly they are not very good and are very boring to watch. This past season the Bruins let Phil Kessel go to Toronto and this ill advised move will probably turn out to be a horrible transaction, because the Bruins can't score goals. Players with Marc Savard's talent and skill don't come around very often.
Time running out for Savard-Bruins pact

The agent for star center Marc Savard says contract talks continue with the Boston Bruins, but time is also becoming of the essence.

"We continue to discuss regularly," agent Larry Kelly told ESPN.com Monday night at the Hockey Hall of Fame. "Both sides are interested in getting something done. But obviously there are issues we are working through."

The longer it takes, the closer Savard gets to July 1, when he would become an unrestricted free agent. It's clear from what Kelly said that the clock is ticking. [ESPN]
