BU to fly to Grand Forks on Thursday

There is some good news, there was some speculation on whether BU would be able to make it out of Boston because of the Hurricane Sandy. Luckily this will not be the case and BU will be flying out of Boston on Thursday as scheduled. This is good news.

Also, Terriers head coach Jack Parker sat out last weekend's series against UMass because of back injury/pain. Parker will be behind the Terriers bench this weekend.

My take on the FCS Hockey broadcasts

Back in the summer, UND signed an agreement with Midco-Sports Network to broadcast around 40 games including all of the home games for UND Men’s Hockey, in addition will broadcast games from other sports to include, football, Men’s and Women’s Basketball. This agreement with MIDCO severed a relationship that the school had with WDAZ and the Fighting Sioux Sports Network.

For this season, next season the games will no longer be on FCS because of the exclusivity deal that was signed between the NCHC and CBSN, all of the UND Men’s Hockey home games are going to be shown on FCS, just like they were under the former television deal.

This means that you can watch UND Hockey where ever you are in the United States if you have Fox College Sports on your local cable package or if you have the sports pack on your DirecTV package. Also, Dish Network doesn’t carry Fox College Sports as of this time.

I have heard a lot of comments on the quality of the UND Hockey Broadcast on FCS this season so far and till this past Sunday night, I hadn’t see any of the broadcasts on Fox College Sports.

On Sunday night, I kind of blew up twitter with this comment – this was the first time that I had seen the broadcasts on FCS – because I attended the games in person. Needless to say, I was less than impressed with the picture that was coming across my television screen.

I want to be clear, this isn’t meant to be a slam on the University of North Dakota, I am just saying the broadcasts that is coming across the FCS television channels isn’t up to par, just yet. Currently, there are people working on this issue, so I would imagine that there will be adjustments made in the near future.

It would also appear that this issue is on the back end – in other words – it’s on FCS’s side and that needs to be clean up before this issue will be fixed. This is what @UNDSID Jayson Hajdu had this to say yesterday on Sioux Sports.

"I looked into the issue some of you have reported regarding the audio not synching properly, and by all accounts everything checks out fine on the front end when the signal is sent out from Midco's uplink truck. So obviously there is an issue on the back end that needs to be solved.

We had already been in contact with Midco earlier this morning, and both parties have regular communication with FOX College Sports, so hopefully this particular issue can be rectified in short order."
If I hear anything I will pass it on.

Updated College Hockey TV schedule

Originally posted at The Hockey Writers – Combine

If you have been scanning twitter and the various NHL webpages on the Internet you will realized that the NHL owners and NHL Players Association are nowhere near signing a new Collective Bargaining Agreement.  It’s almost as if the NHL is bound and determined to ruin the NHL in North America for good as they march towards this bizarre form of fratricide.

The two sides look like a bunch of spoiled five year olds fighting over a toy at daycare.
According to Michael Russo of the Star Tribune, the NHL is going to announce today that the league will be cancelling the entire schedule in November.

You see where this is going? The entire season hangs in the balance and is in jeopardy if the two sides don’t get back to the negotiating table.

I love the NHL and I spend hours every winter watching the greatest game on the planet, but as this lockout continues, I have become so disgruntled with the current state of affairs in the NHL, that I have almost stopped entirely looking at my favorite NHL pages. Recently, I have stuck mostly to amateur hockey leagues like the USHL, NAHL, CHL and NCAA hockey webpages.

So now that we have discussed the depressing subject that is the NHL = No Hockey League, you can settle in tonight and watch some college hockey and here is the updated schedule of college hockey games.
You can check your local listing but FCS is on the following DirecTV channels 617, 623, 626. As of right now, Dish Network does not include Fox College Sports. Games with a (C) are also available in Canada.

A few things related to TV broadcasts

DirecTV
DirecTV (Photo credit: Wikipedia)
I know a few people pinged me both on twitter and on my cell phone last night and said that they couldn't watch the game on DirecTV.

I didn't see the tweet by @UNDSID until I got to the Ralph and when I left my home to go to the game last night the game between UND and USNDT U-18 team the game was still actually listed on my DirecTV channel line up as well (FCS channel 626).

Below is the tweet that Jayson Hajdu put up on twitter last night.

Here is the schedule again if want to peruse it - it looks like every game in January will be on TV this season. [click to view]

This should be the only "home" UND Men's Hockey game that is not picked up by Fox College Sports this season and all of the other games should be on TV.

I have not seen an actual broadcast of UND hockey as of yet so I can't comment on the quality of the broadcasts... I did watch most of the UND vs UNA football game on MidcoNet both at work and on my father-in-laws television and I thought it was a high quality broadcast.

CBS Sports Network
CBS Sports Network (Photo credit: Wikipedia)

As the Lockout enters the tenth day with no end in sight – hockey fans have been given even more options to fill the void left by theNHL lockout.
Earlier, I posted a 24 game college hockey schedule for NBC Sports Network. Today, CBS Sports Network announced their 18 game schedule and starting on Thursday November 15, 2012 with a game between Notre Dame and Michigan in Ann Arbor Michigan.
I took the liberty of combining the two schedules and now between the CBS Sports Network and NBC Sports Network schedules hockey fans have 32 game national college hockey schedule that hockey fans can choose from. You can check your local cable companies listings for what channel these sports networks are on. For those fans that have DirecTV, NBCSN is on channel 603 and CBSSN is on channel 613.
