Chay Genoway Hobey Baker Memorial Award promo

I think when you look at UND senior defenseman Chay Genoway’s and his career at UND, he reminds me of your prototypical Hobey Baker Memorial Award Candidate, he is a 4.0 student, All WCHA Academic, clean cut, the leader on his team. The UND Fighting Sioux hockey team will miss him after he graduates... Here is the link to his Vote for Chay Genoway for Hobey Baker Memorial Award page. Also, here is the official link to the Vote for the Matt Frattin Hobey Baker Memorial Award page...
His Story

Chay Genoway not only thought his college career was over, he thought he may never play hockey again.

Hit to the head early in the 2009-10 season, suffered post concussion symptoms that kept him off the ice.

"Not knowing whether you're going to play at all again is pretty scary," Genoway said.

The captain watched his team go on to win the Broadmoor Trophy and into the NCAA playoffs. He wanted nothing more than to be a part of the team.

Shortly after the season ended, Genoway announced he would return after receiving a medical redshirt.

He wanted to finish what he started.

On and off the ice, Genoway makes a difference. Game changer in the rink. In the community. The class room. Genoway continues on.

Genoway and Eidsness make USCHO's Hobey Baker Watch.

Elliot Olshansky from USCHO has included Fighting Sioux defenseman Chay Genoway and Fighting Sioux goalie Brad Eidsness in his 2010-11 Hobey Baker Watch: Preview, Part II.

DEFENSEMEN

Chay Genoway, Sr., North Dakota – Genoway was named to the All-WCHA third team despite playing a grand total of nine games due to a concussion sustained at the hands of St. Cloud’s Aaron Marvin, but was granted a medical redshirt to complete his college career at North Dakota. In those nine games, he had four goals and six assists, and was generating his share of Hobey talk. Given a full, healthy season on a North Dakota team that always seems to get hot at the right time of year, he should be able to contend for the award again.

GOALTENDERS

Brad Eidsness, Jr., North Dakota – Eidsness was an All-WCHA second team pick last season after finishing eighth nationally in goals-against average and 23rd in save percentage. The return of Chay Genoway to the UND blueline corps should be helpful, and while it’s always tricky to pick goalies, Eidsness is one worth looking at.

Chay Genoway returning another season. Yeah!

Today Fighting Sioux fans every where are celebrating this morning's good news. I mean seriously this is really good news for the Fighting Sioux hockey team, because they get their all-American defenseman for another season. I would say that the return of Chay Genoway makes the UND Fighting Sioux hockey a much better puck moving team defensively. There is going to be a press conference at 13:00 hours today. This is one of the final pieces to the puzzle for the 2010-2011 season. I would believe that Chay Genoway is going to be one of the top candidates and possibly one of the front runners (top three) for the Hobey Baker Memorial Awards as well.
Grand Forks, ND --- Chay Genoway has decided to return to UND for his senior season with a medical redshirt that has recently been granted.

The free agent could have pursued free agent NHL offers, but for the second summer in a row, has decided to leave them on hold in order to play for the Sioux.

Genoway got off to a great start in 2009-10, scoring 10 points in the first nine games of the season, but suffered a concussion on an illegal hit from Aaron Marvin in mid-November. He never played again the rest of the season, bothered by post-concussion problems. [Grand Forks Herald]
