Heard around the rink.

Teemu Selanne had only been back for three games after missing 17 games with left hand injury, is now back on the mend after suffering a broken jaw against the Boston Bruins. Caution the video above is not for the weak of heart. [props]

Jonathan Toews is not know for his fighting ability, threw up in the penalty box after fighting David Backes. Seriously!
After Backes fought Toews, Toews threw up twice in the penalty box.

I mentioned that to Blues enforcer Cam Janssen today and he said, “No way, did he really?”

Derek Armstrong jumped in the conversation and said: “Oh yeah, if you’re not used to it, you’ll throw up. Cam, it would be like you playing 20 minutes in a game . . . you would puke!”

“You had go there, eh?” Janssen said, laughing.

Here is what Jacob Cepis said about playing the North Dakota Fighting Sioux. Honestly, I am not sure how he would know since he has never played against the Sioux in his college hockey career, and Cepis is a transfer from Bowling Green. I hope the Sioux give him a crash course on the rivalry.
"[The Sioux] are going to want to stick it to you right away," Cepis said, "and they are going to want to bully you around. We got to be ready to battle back."

There was some discussion about the RMU Colonials beating the Miami RedHawks this past weekend and how it was a fluke; however, RMU has played some top teams tough.
Close-but-no-cigar decisions against NCAA heavyweights Ferris State (5-4 in OT), Bemidji State (2-0 including an empty-net goal) and Colorado College (4-3), all of which are ranked in this week’s Top 11 according to USCHO.com, tested that belief but didn’t shake it.

“It does frustrate you,” senior defenseman and RMU captain Dave Cowan said. “Nobody likes to lose, especially the guys on our team as close as we are and as competitive as we are.

“Losing games like that pushes you harder in practice to get better and put you over that hump and eventually win those games. We believe we’re capable of great things and that showed this past weekend.”

The two wins over Miami upped Robert Morris’ record when facing off against ranked teams to 3-6 (the Colonials are 3-7 against teams ranked in this week’s Top 20). [www.rmucolonials.com]

Backes fights team Canada one player at a time.

Here is an interesting fact former MSU-M Maverick David Backes and soon to be Olympian has fought, former Fighting Sioux star Jonathan Toews, the Ducks Corey Perry and Rick Nash. All of which are going to be on team Canada. I guess we could ask; who is next from team Canada. I have to admit that as a hockey fan of both college and the NHL I love the way that David Backes plays the game of hockey.

Since it's Sioux and Gophers week. Noticed former Gopher Erik Johnson wants no part of former Fighting Sioux Mike Commodore. Come on Erik Johnson your big man (6’4” and 234 pounds) I would expect you to be just a little bit tougher, you have to be the weakest 236 pound NHL defenseman I have seen. Did you think you were going to be NHL defenseman 10 years and not get challenged to a fight? Get in there and fight when a challenged. You got worked by former Fighting Sioux defenseman Mike "Commi" Commodore.

Merry Christmas from Goon's World.

The Goon’s World team would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Here is the Goon’s Christmas list for 2010.

1.)Return of Chay Genoway to the Fighting Sioux line up. The Sioux are 7-1-1 with him and 2-5-2 with him on the shelf.
2.)I like other Wild fans have become bored with James Sheppard and I would like to see the Wild first round bust sent packing. Honestly the kid is a waste of a uniform and has been held scoreless in the last five games that he has played in. Sheppard was an healthy scratch in last night’s game as well. Sheppard has been horrible this season in 32 games (2g-3a-5pts,-5).
3.)I would like to see the Boston Bruins make a run at getting a serviceable super star to replace Phil Kessel and play with Marc Savard.
4.)I would like to see a Healthy Milan Lucic in a B’s uniform again.
5.)I would like to see the Fighting Sioux win a few more series during the second half of the season and play more consistent hockey. No stupid penalties.
6.)Team USA WJC championship.
7.)A Stanley Cup run by the Wild or Bruins or both.
8.)An 8th NCAA title for the Fighting Sioux.
9.)See the Penguins lose in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs.
10.)Everyone have a safe and happy holiday season.

Lumps of Coal to the following organizations and people.

1.) To WCHA officials who’s performance during the first half of the season have been brutal at best. It’s time for a change at the top.
2.) Individual lumps of coal to the following WCHA officials: Don Adam, Bill Mason, Brian Thul, Scott Bokal your performance on the ice has been unacceptable and brutal during the first half of the season.
3.) To the CCHA for turning down UAH’s membership application.
4.) To Direct TV and not settling with VERSUS.
5.) The Commissioner of the NHL Gary Bettman, just cause.
6.) NHL Center Ice for not showing every that I want to see. Recently they didn’t pick up a Wild game that I wanted to see.
7.) Outdoor hockey games. Yawn, boring!
8.) To the people that disrespect the BSU Beavers for not being a legit team. How many times do they have to prove you wrong? Is beating Cornell, Notre Dame and Miami not enough for you? While their not a top 5 team they are worthy of being in the top 15.
9.) Aaron Marvin for [this dirty hit]
10.) Greg Shepherd for only giving said dirty hit a one game suspension.
11.) WCHA official Tim Walsh who overruled a Sioux goal against SCSU because he didn't/could blow the whistle, but he intended to.(props to Whistler). [Link to article]
