Weekend Match-Ups (Sioux 7)

First off let me start by saying THANK YOU to all our VETERANS (which includes the Goon) for proudly serving this great country we call home. THANK YOU.

Now with the honoring of our Veterans this Veteran's Day, we can move on to hockey. We have a couple of big rivalry games this weekend, UM-UW (they also play football against each other this weekend too) and DU-CC. I'm looking forward to watching a few games on TV this weekend since the Sioux are off.

WCHA Games

Alaska-Anchorage Seawolves @ #10 Minnesota-Duluth
Last weekend the Seawolves had a free weekend and the Bulldogs took 3-points from the Pioneers in Denver.

The Seawolves are looking for their first WCHA win of the season this weekend. However, I don’t think the Bulldogs are going to roll over and give them a win. The Bulldogs are riding a 4 game unbeaten streak back into Amsoil arena. UAA has only scored 3 goals in their last 4 games; needless to say, they have to up their scoring in order to win. I always have said the magic number is 3, three goals in a game and have a legitimate shot of winning most every game. In the end, I think the Bulldogs will prevail this weekend. DULUTH SWEEP

St. Cloud State @ Minnesota State
Last weekend the Mavericks split with the MTU Huskies in Houghton and the Huskies took 3-points from the Badgers in St. Cloud.

The Mavericks, when you look at the standings, they can say they are ahead of UND, not to bad for the skating wounded. MSUM will be okay if they can get some consistent play from their new kids and have them step up and be the MANkato Mavericks. Also you can say they have had a tough schedule this year, DU and MTU. The key for the Huskies will be to score early and get the crowd out of the game and rattle the Mavericks. SPLIT

#1 Minnesota @ Wisconsin
Last weekend the Gophers swept the Fighting Sioux in Minneapolis and the Badgers salvaged 1 point against the Huskies in St. Cloud.

I have to admit the Gophers look good this year, they will a title contender, hell at this rate they might be able to call dibs on it before Christmas. The Badgers have only got one conference win against someone with a winning record, that would be against UNO. Of course, this is another big rivalry for the Gophers, so they should be pumped up again this weekend, same could be said for the Badgers. UW also has the home ice advantage, so the crowd could/will be a factor. The Badgers need to score first to get the crowd going, or keep them in it. It’s hard to pick against the red hot gophers right now, especially with all the goals they are averaging. GOPHERS 3-points

Nebraska-Omaha @ Bemidji State
Last weekend the Mavericks split with the Tigers in Omaha and the Beavers split with Lake Superior State in Bemidji.
Last year the Beavers had the Mavericks number. The boys from BSU beat them 5 times and tied them once last season (they swept them in Omaha in the first round of the wcha playoffs). That was last year, this is this year, so it could be UNO’s season to return the favor. I’m sure the Mavericks remember the beat down from last year and would love to extract some revenge this season. I’m thinking they will get it, but not get complete revenge. SPLIT

#3 Colorado College @ #12 Denver (Saturday Only)
Last weekend the Tigers Split with UNO Mavericks in Omaha and the Pioneers got 1point against the UMD Bulldogs in Denver.
Can we say Gold Pan game 1, lights, camera, action. Last year these teams split their four games 2-2-0, but each team won both games on their home ice. If that hold true this year, the Pioneers should win, since they are at home. Past performance does not guarantee future predictability. The Pioneers are having a minor power outage, since they scored 10 goals on MSUM in one game, they have only put up 7 goals in their next 4 games. DU needs to get their offense back on the wagon tracks. The Tigers are just the opposite, they have scored 18 goals in their last 4 games. I’m going with the hotter team. TIGERS WIN

BYE WEEK
#15 Michigan Tech Huskies
#20 North Dakota Fighting Sioux
