Melrose: Bruins are best team remaining

I am getting worried now and I don't know if I agree with Melrose, the Boston Bruins are a beat up team and are missing two of their top six forwards in David Krejci and Marco Sturm.
BallHype: hype it up!

  1. I'm teetering. I agree with you on the Bruins but...

I really think the Hawks are the best team in the playoffs... unless Montreal eliminates Pittsburgh.

If they go and eliminate both Washington and then Pittsburgh, then I'll have to say that Montreal is the best team in the playoffs bar none. You cannot ignore what they've done so far.

Halak is amazing. As far as I'm concerned, the Habs have a Canadian version of the NY Rangers and have done the near impossible with it.

  2. You mean the Canadians would be the luckiest team in the playoffs not the best, right? If not, that is the most preposterous statement to ever be posted on Goons World.

  3. I the Habs have had good goaltending and have been very lucky. I don't think the Habs are the best team in the Playoffs, I think the San Jose Sharks are.

  4. montreal is not the best team in the playoffs. looking at the east alone:

montreal is averaging 25.5 shots per game in the current series. pittsburgh has 30.5, philly has 32.4, and boston has 30.4.

montreal is averaging 2.33 goals per game in the current series. pittsburgh has 2.67, philly has 3.2, and boston has 3.2.

montreal has a save % of .913 in the current series. pittsburgh has .908, philly has .895, and boston has .901.

as the stats show, halak is a stud, but montreal is relying on him to carrying them through games.

it's unlikely that halak can continue this performance through another two series (provided they even get past the current series). these games have to be wearing on him.

i think montreal is the most likeable team remaining because they are an underdog and because halak is so much fun to watch.

i think halak has already made a strong argument for playoffs mvp, but the canadiens do not deserve any consideration when talking about the best TEAM remaining.

as for who is the best team remaining, i'd probably have to agree with melrose. philly started peaking right when the playoffs started. they won their first series in 5 games against the number 2 seed in the east so for boston to force them to have to win four straight to get out of this round speaks volumes for boston's strength.

the injuries are a concern, but one more win and they can get rested up for the conference championship series.

i'll admit, though, i'm rooting for philly since i believe no team has ever overcome a 3-0 series deficit in the stanley cup playoffs. and i'm rooting for montreal because of halak.

ultimately, i'd like to see the blackhawks win it all though, but they first have to shake those pesky canucks.

  5. Luck wouldn't cover two straight 7 game upsets where the clinching game occurs on the road.

    Halak's performance isn't lucky. It's downright ridiculous.

Maybe they're not the "best" team on the ice as they haven't many stars or big name players in their prime.

I really can't ignore the Habs. The Caps did and they're playing golf.

I don't think New Jersey in the mid90s were all that great, were they? They just got timely goaltending. But was it luck? I think the Habs are potentially another mid 90s Devils team.

That being said, I'm rooting heavily for the Habs in Game 7 but I'm expecting the Pens to win.
