April 14th, 2010 Coach's Corner
This is the reason that I like CBC's coverage of the Stanley Cup playoffs, I love listening to Ron MacLean & Don Cherry go back and forth. Most American's don't get to see CBC unless you live close to border like I do. Fighting Sioux hockey recruit Dillon Simpson was also mentioned on the coaches corner tonight.

ReplyDeleteNo thanks on continuing the Coaches Corner episodes.
ReplyDeleteI don't need to see all Pro Canada Pro Major Juniors all the time.
HOWEVER! HOWEVER!
Don Cherry, perrenially in the doghouse with me, earned some points with me in this episode because he said this:
"Crosby is good but he's no Bobby Orr."
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU!
That's precisely it. We don't know how good Crosby is compared to Orr or Gretzky or whatever because, unlike Orr or Gretzky or Howe, etc., Crosby is still playing.
Let's watch him with awe and respect since he is a great player but let's save the "Legend" BS until his career is over. Then we'll know for sure.
Here's my Crosby prediction:
Sidney Crosby will be a first ballot hall of famer. It will be a NO BRAINER. He will NOT (and you can take this to the bank) break ANY of Gretzky's scoring records. He will NOT break Howe's longevity record. He will be one of the GREATEST players ever to have the entire NHL PR mechanism put in full force behind everything he does. His play and stats will say he was great, but the NHL PR firm and the Hockey Media will push him up to where he doesn't belong: Next to Gretzky and Howe and Orr.
Take off the Crosby sunglasses and view reality folks. That's my prediction and you can bank on it.
