In Eids we trust
The game was a goaltending battle for the first two periods as Brad Eidness got his second shutout in four games and fourth of his career. The Sioux score another short handed goal to break a 0-0 tie. Tomorrow night the Sioux get the DU Pioneers who went 4-0 during the regular season against the Sioux.

ReplyDeleteAs for the Dogs, they are serious bubble material now. That loss dropped them from 11th to 14th. It appears that they will miss the tournament by 1 or 2 spots.
The game wasn't actually as close as the score would seem to indicate. The Sioux controlled the game in all three zones, seldom let UMD get any kind of momentum going and clogged up the neutral zone. They also managed to keep possession in the offensive zone for extended periods of time. They beat the Dogs to the puck and won most of the battles on the boards and behind the net. They probably couldn't have played a much better game. But even if they play at the same level against the Pioneers, will that be good enough to win?

Really, it's hard to name 2 and 3. VV, Trupp, Malone, Blood, Marto, Zajac, and Lammy all played very very well.
I'd also have to consider Reiter. He really played well just got unlucky.
In any case, Reiter was far and away UMD's best player tonight.
Trupps goal was a thing of beauty, by Kristo.
ReplyDeleteHe was going around the net to the goalies left. Stopped because there was nothing there. He reversed direction, carried the puck around to the other side. When he was up front his willingness to shoot took the defense and the goalie to the goalies left. He didn't have a shot so he passed the puck to Trupp on the goalies right by bouncing the puck off of the boards behind the net.
It wound up neatly on Trupps stick who had a wide open net (albeit from a difficult angle).
Wow, Just Wow.
If No MI (vs Ferris St) or Vermont (vs BC) lose tonight, Duluth will rise and get more secure. Alaska's destiny is in others hands too. I don't think Yale or any team above them will drop four or more spots.
