Anton Volchenkov pounds Daniel Carcillo

Couldn't have happened to a nicer guy, I have to say that was a nice hit Volchenkov. I think when you skate up and down the ice taking liberties with the opposition players eventually someone is going to catch you and burry you in the boards with a nice legal stiff check. This video just made my whole day. Daniel Carcillo is one of the biggest hacks in the NHL and nice to see him on the receiving end once in a while. [Stick tap to Puck Daddy]
BallHype: hype it up!

  1. Yup. Legal.

    Love it.

Carcillo isn't nearly the hack that Cooke is. He might be a Colton Orr or Steve Ott type though with a hint of Sean Avery in the attitude.

  2. That hit is not much different than Cooke's hit you were going nuts about a little bit ago. You always complain how Crosby and Ovechkin don't get suspended for stuff just cuz they are star players. So are you now saying these hits are ok as long as they are on the tougher guys and not star players like savard.

  3. Redwing77 I do agree Cooke is a hack even more then Carcillo. Though I would not compare Carcillo to Orr or Ott, because Carcillo will not fight a fighter, he is willing to fight Gabby or Crosby types but won't fight a true fighter. Carcillo runs around using cheapshots and stick work then turtles when a player challenges him. I think Carcillo is a lot like Avery as you mentioned, I would love to have the insigator rule removed so these hacks get what they have comming. But that could be just me.

  4. Mike Wrong - Gong, there is no comparision Cooke hit an unexpecting player this is from the front. It's a legal check. Go back and watch the video. As far as the NHL goes it's legal and no penalty was called on the play.

Puck Daddy said this as well.
"No penalty was called on the hit, nor should there have been one: Not a blindside hit, Volchenkov used his shoulder and Carcillo was simply caught in a prone position as he moved into the zone. Whether this defense holds up to the new headshot ban is up to the NHL."

    I concure.

  5. Heh. Mike, Carcillo laid on the ice for a while TRYING TO DRAW A PENALTY (which he should have...for embellishment ON HIM) but then got up and started skating around giving the evil eye to Volchenkov.

Sorry. Savard never got up. He was helped off the ice from the blindside truck that embodied Cooke's elbow.

Had the hit been illegal, I'd call for Volchenkov's suspension. But it wasn't.

    It was a great hit.

In other news, I'd give just about anything to have been on the glass in front of that hit so I could watch Carcillo's face slide down the glass. :D

  6. I am sorry if it seemed like I was saying that I had a problem with the hit on Carcillo, I did watch it before I posted and feel it is a legal hit which I should have said in my first post. I was only saying how I think that Cooke is a little bit more of a hack then Carcillo but I can't stand either one. I wish they would have thrown the book at Cooke with his hit on Savard.

  7. I think that both Carcillo and Cooke are major league hacks and eventually the bill will come due on these two clown someone will collect. Neither of these two clowns will ussually fight and at least Cooke fought Shawnn Thornton.
