So what did Motzko do and why did he do it?
He violated the WCHA Code of Conduct/Sportsmanship Rules.
With the score 5-4 and 90 seconds left, the Huskies appeared to score the tying goal. But referee Brett Klozowski had lost sight of the puck underneath goalie Joe Howe's arm and blew his whistle. Then the puck went into the net. After officials reviewed replays, they stuck with the decision on the ice: No goal.
Motzko went on the ice after the game and had to be restrained by other officials as he argued with Klozowski, according to game stories written by Candace Horgan of uscholcom and Joe Paisley of the Colorado Springs Gazette.
“We scored a goal,” Motzko said later. “Everybody in the rink knows we scored a goal." [Goal Gophers]

St. Cloud coach reprimanded by WCHA
Hum, ref blows call on a goal that cost a team points. Where have we seen this before? First thing that I would say is maybe if the refs in this league weren't a bunch of buffoons on skates they wouldn't have a coach getting upset with refs every week. This has become a weekly occurrence, every week there seems to be a controversy in a game somewhere in the WCHA. I have to wonder if this had been Gwozdecky out on the ice arguing with the officials if the league office would have done anything about it?

its about time somebody did something.
ReplyDeleteI wish someone would call out Mcleod in the media
Actually Greg Shepherd is the head of officials but I agree that someone needs to stand up and make a stand against the officials.
ReplyDeleteWhat I can't get over is how they can still screw up a call when video replay is utilized. This is exactly why every WCHA arena is equipped with video replay now. If you can't tell in real/live speed, then fine, go to the videos and check there. If you can't see on an HD video screen that the puck goes in the net before the whistle is blown, then you not only can't be a ref in the WCHA, you shouldn't be reffing any sport period.
ReplyDeleteHey Goon, is the officiating this inconsistent in the other leagues too?
I don't hear of the other leagues having the problem with the refs like the WCHA does. The CCHA does have Shegos who does have his share of controversial calls as well.
ReplyDeleteWhen UND was playing Cornell Paul Stewart the head of ECAC officials was on the broadcast with the Cornell Radio guys between periods and they forgot to mute the mike in the radio booth and they asked him about the ECAC officials having their names on the back of their refs jerseys and he said, we like to sign our work unlike the other leagues and then he kind of took a shot at the other leagues refs, I am sure he was refing to the WCHA's and them not having names on the back of the refs shirts.

ReplyDeleteOther leagues have their problems as well.
Wow wchadominates! The tables have turned a bit. I seem to remember you ripping sioux fans and telling them to get over it when the sioux got screwed by the refs, but now scsu gets screwed and you are livid? Get over it!
ReplyDeleteSeejowksi While I am happy that Moztko stood up to the refs because most of us know the refs do suck in this league and they will never get better until the leagues coaches and the faculty reps demand better.
ReplyDeleteYou’re right I do remember certain fans telling us to get over it. I know UND has been screwed a few times on the whistle calls, the one comes to mind was the game against SCSU on Saturday night in November. The puck that went into the net came back on the ice, the same puck that was shot into our net in Duluth, cost UND points and a sweep against the Bulldogs comes to mind as well.
The Badgers have been screwed three times in the past three seasons by the WCHA on ice Idiots. Well that is just goals, their bad officiating in general has screwed the Badgers countless other times, but which team hasn't, I mean besides Denver of course...
