Coming up: Sioux and Huskies.
I posted this video in hopes that it will fire up Sioux fans for next week's series. I would also hope the memories of this painful series back in November will fire up the Fighting Sioux hockey team as well. Because face it the sky is not falling yet, but there is no room for error if the Fighting Sioux want to get home ice for the WCHA playoffs and make the NCAA tourney.
This is kind of where the UND Fighting Sioux's season took a turn for the worse. Listen to these two guys, I wonder how many complaints they got for making light of Marvin hit on Chay Genoway? Also, the refs threw SCSU a life line with this waved off goal that should have counted.

Yeah, these guys are idiots but relistening to them you can obviously tell that they have no future in sports media in their current positions. Even if Marvin's hit was clean, the way they handled themselves on air (the "Laschinator?" Seriously? And then there's the whole "Toesy Mosey" debacle) would have me wondering what Tony Mosey and Ryan Lasch think about it if it didn't mean actually showing them the clip and making these buffoons relevant.
ReplyDeleteI think this series is going to be tough for UND.
That didn't take long. I don't know I think UND has a lot to play for and if the Sioux play physical and check them hard I think they can expose the Huskies defensemen,
ReplyDeleteI was not impressed at all with SCSU last time I saw them play in Grand Forks, nor was I impressed with them when they played the Goofs.
They are very soft, not a lot of grit. Don't get me wrong, they have good team speed up front but that can be nullified if they are checked, fore checked and checked some more. The Genoway incident kind of threw the Sioux off the second night and the goal that was waved off didn't help either.
I didn't say the Sioux were destined to lose.
ReplyDeleteI said it was going to be rough. :p
I agree that, if we play physical (and smart) and are able to play through the inevitable "learning experiences" the refs have in store for Blood (the league calls them penalties), and we can find a way to finish our chances, we'll be fine.
Right now, it's one game at a time.
The Huskies have serious depth on offense and their defense in vastly improved from last season. They can score goals, but lately its been there defense thats been the key to their 15-2-3 run the past 20 games. Goon, you are right, they can be slowed down with some physical play...but their power play has been deadly lately and if the Sioux start a parade to the box like they so often do, the Huskies will capitalize eventually. The Sioux are on life support. They need points way more than the Huskies do and also need help from CC in order to gain that final coveted home ice playoff spot.
ReplyDeleteI hope the Huskies are has cocky as you are, UND has owned your team the last 5 years. Should we review the teams that you have played in your streak? It's very impressive. UAA (X4), Brown (X2), MTU(X2), QU (X2), Minnesota (X2)
ReplyDeleteJust for the Record UND is ranked 4th nationally on defense and 10th over all on the PK.
Actually, I don't much disagree with what WCHAdominates has said except the life support bit. The only parade to the penalty box we had this year was thanks to some really good theatrics by George Gwozdecky. We are starting to expect poor officiating overall, but especially at Magness.
ReplyDeleteRight now, I'm not worried about anything other than our Powerplay. Sure we haven't been scoring but our PK and defense has been solid. However, right now, our Powerplay is just pathetic. That HAS to be an edge for SCSU because they can feel that, if they do get overly physical or get called to the penalty box, they're not going to be in as much of a threat as if it were a team like DU or UW going up on the powerplay.
The Powerplay is the only disappointing thing about the Sioux imo.
Once again, take a long, hard look at the WCHA standings. You will see the Sioux in 6th place. That means 5 teams are ahead of them.
ReplyDeleteYou also failed to conveniently mention that UND is #1 in the country penalties taken. Can't win games short-handed man.
WCHA do you ever check your facts before you come on here and spew your meaningless points. You can beat your chest all you want about SCSU but the facts remain; (and I hate to lets facts get in the way of a good argument) UAA is leading the NCAA in PMS. UND is fifth not first. http://tinyurl.com/yze22pb
ReplyDeleteHow's your golf game been lately?
ReplyDeleteWCHA the standings are irrelevant at this time, we play full seasons before we beat our chests.
