Tim Thomas on being selected to the USA Olympic team.

I have to admit that I was touched by the way the USA did the announcement of the USA Olympic hockey team today. I really liked the announcement with the kids wearing the team USA jerseys with the player’s names on the back. Let’s say that it was a cool way to announce the USA team.

It thought it was even classier to see Tim Thomas skate out onto Fenway Park field wearing his USA jersey. While I am on record as not being a big fan of the outdoor game (I have seen them all) I thought the presentation of team USA after the Winter Classic was a nice touch. That being said, the outdoor game really doesn’t work in really gold locations like the Midwest. Winters aren't as bad in Massachusetts or New York as they are in North Dakota, I know because I lived in Massachusetts. I know that I really have no urge to go to a hockey game at memorial field in Grand Forks, ND when it's -20.

While for the most part I thought today's game was a bore, the end of the game was pretty exciting as Tim Thomas made some big saves then the German Marco Strum scored the game winner and I danced around my living room, a win against the dirty Flyers no matter where it's played always feels good.

BallHype: hype it up!

  1. Hehehe Goon. I cracked a smile at you dancing around your living room. Abby must have thought it was pretty great.

  2. For 2.5 periods the Flyers were the better team. Numerous times they had 2 on 1's, breakaways, and glorious chances in the high scoring slot-zone but couldn't tally more than one goal. Unfortunately for them, the game is 60 minutes long, not 57. Costly penalty too. At least they're playing better. That's 5 games on the road in a row, and 4 with wins in regulation coupled with this loss in OT today...I'll take it.

  3. Donna, I think the Flyers are like the Ducks big and dirty, I love when both teams lose. Abby was watching TV with my wife in the bedroom. She learned to dance from me...

  4. Why don't you like the outdoor game? I was at Wrigley last year. We had decent seats, not great, but acceptable. I felt for all of those fans at Fenway today and Wrigley last year who had terrible seats and basically had to watch the game on the big video screens.

  5. They need to find a cold weather college football stadium to play the game and put it on a olympic sheet or larger to fill the field. It might look and play more like pood hockey without all the hitting.Your best skaters and skilled players could show off their talents and add a little more scoring.
