Badgers 4 Sioiux 3

I would use three words to explain this weekend's play; UNACEPTABLE, UNDICISPLINED and LAZY. If you can't move your feet get off the ice. I swear! I wonder if next season I can just buy half a season ticket package and start showing up to the games after the first of the year because for a 6th season in a row the Fighting Sioux are just not playing up to their potential. Frankly they suck. There are many players that would give their left testicle to play for this program. The effort on the ice was non-existent.

Goaltending this past weekend by the starting goaltender Brad Eidness was HORRIBLE or another word I would use is BRUTAL. Three of the four goals that Eidness let in tonight were shot he should have and has to stop. I want someone to tell me why Eidness is always on his knees, if he isn’t on his knee is failing to cover the short side post or just out of position all together. The Fighting Sioux coaching staff needs to get a goalie coach to work with their tenders.

DISCIPLINE

Edit (the beauty of DVR): I went back and watched the game oon my DVR and the first penalty against Ben Blood in the second period was a joke it was a legit finished body check, the second penalty was a legitmate boarding call and I have seen hits like this called checking from behind. borderline checking from behind.

In conclusion: Take nothing away from the Wisconsin Badgers they are a very good hockey teams that is loaded with future NHL players. As usual Mike Eaves outcoach the Fighting Sioux staff again. Blake Geoffrion i an awesome player that would look great in green and white and I can’t understand why he isn’t already playing for a pay check in the AHL or NHL?

BallHype: hype it up!

  1. Eids is on his knees because he's a butterfly goalie and he is protecting the most likely spot for the puck to enter the net with his biggest piece of equipment.

I get real tired of people telling goalies to "stand up". That's stupid. Eids went down late once and took a goal 5 hole.

His problem is that he takes himself out of position way too much. And, apparently, he needs some catching practice. The goal he gave up high glove side should have been the second easiest shot to stop.

Anyway, he deserves criticism, but not for being on his knees. I heard lots of people yelling "get up", and it drives me crazy. Even if you've never played goalie, studied goalies, or red a book on goal tending, simple geometry should tell you that pads on ice is better than pads vertical.

  2. I agree about Blood's second of the two penalties in that sequence should have been a major checking from behind.

Not that there's an excuse for acting out your frustrations, but the first penalty was BS. Friesema called elbow to the head.

Blood dropped him with a shoulder to the chest. Awesome check.

Friesema had his head turned for the hit and reacted to the guy falling.

Considering that there are 3 other officials on the ice it is inexcusable to call something you didn't see.

Anderson had the best 119 minutes and 55 seconds I've ever seen him put together.

Why is it that the guys being paid to be out there are the most amateur jokes on the ice?

  3. I get the butterfly goaltending but Eids is not doing it well at all. I think the coaching staff needs to get Dell into the line up more so he can challenge Eidsness.

He goes down way too early and his lateral movement from side to side is horrible. The goalie from Wisconsin did a better job playing the butterfly goalie style.

Goaltending is definatley the weak link right now. The defense is second because they gave up way too many odd man rushes this weekend.

  4. Whistler I thought the first Blood check was questionable and it happened right in front of me. I will go back and watch it later.

The CFB on Hextall was brutal and an incorrect call but it didn't cost UND the game.

  5. Whistler I posted an edit to my blog post the first call against Ben Blood was weak.

  6. Wisconsin has UND's number in that building. They are the only team in the entire country that has a winning record there and they haven't lost in 3 seasons, going 5-0-1. This is typical North Dakota hockey: ho-hum first half, well we know how it turns out in the second half. I was able to attend the CC-St Cloud game last night. CC is a very impressive team. Their defense is solid and they are like a snake in the grass waiting to bite. How about the highly over rated Beavers putting up two home losses to Mankato???
