Moving forward there is lots to be positive about if you’re a Fighting Sioux hockey fan.
A lot has been made this season about Junior Marc Cheverie play and how good he has been and he is currently ranked 1st nationally with 6-0-0 record a SV% of .961 and a GAA of 1.1940. Not to take anything away from Marc Cheverie but Fighting Sioux goaltender Brad Eidsness isn’t having too bad of a season as well. Currently Eidsness is ranked 5th in the nation with 6-3-1 record a 929 SV % and a GAA of 1.69. [USCHO.COM]
The good numbers don't end there. UND is also Ranked 19th nationally in offense 3.08 goals per game and 3rd nationally in defense 1.75 goals per game. [USCHO.COM]
UND is also ranked 14th nationally on the power play and ranked 10th on penalty killing.
Eidsness isn't having a bad season there Goon, but no one is having the season Cheverie is thus far. That guy is a stone wall. North Dakota is pretty good, but no one is as good as Denver, I think that's fairly obvious here. There's a reason Denver is the pre-season pick to win the NCAA title, and they're proving it right nwo.

ReplyDeleteNo it's not Charlie.
ReplyDeleteWCHAdominates,
ReplyDeleteYou make it sound like DU is head and shoulders above everyone else in the league, I disagree with that. They played at home against UND while UND was missing one of the top players in the country, and they still barely won. Not to mention that the refs basically handed DU the second game. DU has been unimpressive in every other series they have played this year. Granted they were missing Cheverie for some games, but like I said UND was missing Genoway.
Also doesn't CC have a pretty good record? Shouldn't they be in this discussion as long as they have as many points as DU? The problem is DU had a high preseason ranking and CC a low one so now even though they are tied in the standings everyone thinks DU is just reaching their potential while CC's success has been a fluke. That is why I hate preseason rankings in all sports.
DU is head and shoulders above everyone else! Cheverie's record is 6-0 with a .930 save percentage and a 1.19 GAA. Stats don't lie. And stop throwing in garbage about the refs and their calls. Goon has already blamed them for the two Sioux losses, there's no need for you to do the same. Could have Genoway make difference? Perhaps, but we will never know for sure. And yes, CC is having a solid season as they were picked to finish in 8th place. I could see them plumetting, but Denver is a pretty good lock to win the league this season. Basically, with Cheverie in net, they're not going to lose.
ReplyDeleteOne last thing, WCHA please stop telling the people who post on this blog how to think.
ReplyDeleteLet me try this again: Please tell where I blamed the refs for the loss last weekend.
ReplyDeleteI am going to laugh when DU falls in the NCAA playoffs and UND advances further. There are not awards for victories in October, November and December.
I will stop barking about lame posts on officiating when you stop posting them. Let's talk hockey, not officiating, huh?
ReplyDeleteLast time I checked, first half season wins count on the record and in conference games, points are awarded for the coveted 5 home ice spots and more importantly in Denver's case, the McNaughton Cup. Games are harder to win as the season wears on, so why not take as many W's as possible, even in November? CC has taken advantage thus far.
IF I want to talk about officiating I will, it's my blog I own it.
ReplyDeleteI just don't see how they are "head and shoulders" above everybody else. If they had beat UND by 4 or 5 goals a night, then I may agree but two close wins at home means yes they may be better but I don't think they are in a league by themselves as you seem to suggest.
