Reporting of local hockey?

Grand Forks Central went to Devils Lake, ND on Saturday night and this is all that appeared in today's Grand Forks Herald. By the way Central won the game 7-1 but hardly a mention of the game. When I used to live Bemidji and International Falls, Minnesota, High School hockey got a lot more coverage than it does in Grand Forks, ND. This is supposed to be a hockey town and this is the best coverage we can get. A lot of people are interested in high school but there is hardly any coverage in the local news paper. Lets hear about some of the Central and Red River hockey players.
Boys hockey: John Simonson scored two goals to lead Grand Forks Central to a 7-1 East Region victory against homestanding Devils Lake on Friday. Justin Moody, Jake Plutowski, Brenden Gust, Jared Sorlien and David Sayler also scored for the Knights. “We got off to a great start with three goals in the first five minutes,” Central coach Tony Bina said. “We set the tone early.” Tanner Spicer had three assists for Central. Tyler Roed scored for the Firebirds. The Knights had a 42-18 edge in shots on goal. “It was a good team effort,” Bina said. “We’re rolling three lines. We’re pretty deep.”

  1. Goon, just be thankful you don't live in the western part of the state. Hockey is barely acknowledged as a sport in the local media here. Class B wrestling and basketball.....now thats a whole different story. It's a pretty big deal.

  2. BTW, were you able to watch the Pens/Red Wings game yesterday on NBC?? I turned it on and they had local bowling on instead. KFYR classic or some bs. What a joke. They figure since it's only hockey, no big deal.
