The students on both ends of Mariucci on Friday night wore gold. They got the message. The other fans? Not so much. That was a poor Gold Out. I’m not exactly sure where the blame lies?
Partly, I think, the U did not seem to do a very good job of getting the word out. True, they handed out some gold T-shirts last weekend. But I did not hear the Gold weekend promoted on TV or radio or at Mariucci much? Maybe I live in a cave/
There was a gold pom pom in all 10,000-some seats when fans arrived Friday night. That looked kind of cool. But once the game began, there were only splashes of gold in the public seats.
Contrast that to Grand Forks, N.D., a couple of weeks back. Those fans really responded to the White Out there. Maybe 90 percent wore white. Of course, there is little else to focus on in NoDak. No pro sports — Wild, Wolves — or major college basketball like Tubby’s tubs. The Fighting Sioux are the big sports story in town, I get that.

Nothing to do but go to hockey in Grand Forks.
Here is the latest jab at UND from Goal Gophers. Yawn! Hey Roman maybe some of us live up here because we don't like the urban sprawl of the metro area and we don't have to put up with wall to wall skippy's in traffic every day. I live two miles from work. I can watch all the hockey I want from my living room. Funny I managed to catch your squad get run over by the Badgers this weekend. Lets see that is 2-4 in your last six games. Lastly, if North Dakota is such a horrible place how come there are so many blue license plates up here in October?

Apparently, that geek hasn't had to spend a weekend in Anchorage. Aside from that, the play of the Huskies in their 2-1 loss to the Seawolves in Alaska on Saturday night prompted the St. Cloud play-by-play announcer to remark that they were "making me physically sick".
ReplyDeleteHe deleted my comment about how the gophers have unloyal fans haha
ReplyDeletewolves, hahaha!!! That's it, I'm buying a gold shirt and move to minny. I'll see you at the target center!!
ReplyDeleteRoman's blog is a joke, I sent him an email last weekend taking him to task for poo pooing the Schack the Hack incident and making nary a mention about it in the article he wrote for the red star and sickle.
ReplyDeleteAlso, Roman is probably referring to me as being one of the bloggers that called Hack a bunch of names and compared his guttless act as a Todd Bertuzzi style attack.
Also, can't post any comments on his blog so you have to post them on the article he writes for the red star.
Hey Goon...I've seen you refer to "Goal Gophers" on a number of occassions...why? Take a look at the comments...no one reads that piece of crap...Roman may have been a good high school reporter, but I don't think he's captured the imagination of any college fans...save yourself some aggravation and quit reading that drivel...
ReplyDeleteCS, actually a lot of people have tried to comment on Roman's blog but he moderates his comments and if your crticial of his Gophers you won't get it published.
ReplyDeleteReading his blog isn't making me aggravated, the weather here in Grand Forks is aggravating.
Well, if Roman's just "singing-to-the-choir", he's not getting any responses from the choir either...you have to be kidding me about the weather...36-degrees! Your in the midst of a heat wave...we're frigid here in NY (30-degrees)...BU 1 Northeastern 1; end of one...Northeastern is impressive (even though they lost to the rodents).
ReplyDeleteWhen it freezes tonight I will be able to skate to work tomorrow. It has been raining all day. I think I would rather have the bad weather.
