Analysis

Just as I predicted the Boston University Terriers are the new team with the bulls eye on their back. While there are no awards for finishing with a great record in October and November they have been the best team in college so far. These polls are all over the place like the CBS/New York Times presidential poll. UMD is ranked in one poll and not in the other ones.

The polls have Air Force ranked 12, 13 and 12, this is based the Falcons beating no one from the big 4 conferences.

Notre Dame Beats Boston College 4-1 on Friday night and moves up only three places in the polls.

Media Darling Princeton is still ranked 12, 11 and 9 after losing to Cornell this weekend.

  1. I know there's a lot of mocking of ECAC Hockey on here, and true their conference isn't strong top to bottom, but I watched the Princeton-Cornell game and they both were very good teams. Cornell's defense is very good, and Princeton I think definitely has a shot at a Frozen Four this year.

And I wonder how much Air Force's ranking has to do with A. The amazing amount of goals they've put up this year and B. Their good play against Miami and Minnesota the past two years.

  2. Sioux15 I just don't think the ECAC is a very strong league, I have been a college hockey fan for a ver long time and they have done little in the 1990's and during the 2000.

Every year we hear how great the ECAC teams are and but most of them are gone by the first round of the NCAA tourney. Incidently UND has lost like one game to an ECAC team in 26 years that was to Harvard a few years back. I honeslty don't think UAF, or Princeton belong in the top ten spots.

  4. Well I agree with you that top to bottom it's not very strong, but they have good teams at the top. One of the reasons they struggle a bit against teams from the WCHA and Hockey East is they have a totally different style of play, as you can probably tell from looking at the scores.

  6. I think here is a serious eastern bias this season, some of it is warrented but they are in HEA and not the ECAC.
