Come on Peltier show us your "halo"...

Here is a perfect example of Classic Gopher Homerism

On Monday, coach Don Lucia talked to his players about Saturday’s penalty- and fight-filled game. He called the time he spent on the subject “good learning and teaching moments.”

At the end of overtime, Darcy Zajac of the Fighting Sioux cross-checked R.J. Anderson in the back. That prompted Tony Lucia, the coach’s son, to go after Zajac and he eventually wrestled him to the ice. As expected, the crowd cheered.

Both Tony Lucia and Zajac were given game disqualifications, meaning they will miss their team’s next game. For Tony Lucia, that means Friday’s game at Denver.

“I don’t condone fighting,” Don Lucia said when asked about the incident. “But at the same time sometimes you have to come to your teammates’ defense. I don’t ever want to be part of a a program or team that starts anything but sometimes you have to stand up for your teammates on the rink.”

Is that what your son did? “Yes, I think so,” dad replied.

“There was a situation earlier in the game where Derek [Peltier] was involved that we had a bunch of teammates standing and watching two, three guys on [Peltier]. You just can’t — you have to come to a teammate’s aid.”

Peltier said he and his teammates did not start Saturday’s trouble. “We were not really trying to get involved,” he said. “We got dragged into the situation a little bit. But you’ve got to stick up for your players. You don’t want to get pushed around, especialy in your own barn. So I think we were just sticking up for ourselves and sticking up for our teammates.”

Peltier said he would like to see North Dakota again in the playoffs. “That would be awesome,” he said. “We owe them a little bit.”

First off this is the biggest piece of bravo sierra I have read in a long time. Talk about wearing maroon and gold goggles. Let’s break it down again; Peltier hits Trupp with what I would call a questionable hit, then the little halo falls on top of Trupp and starts cross checking him/punching him, of course Trupp is going to defend himself. Notice that the Sioux players come to the aid of the own while the Gophers stand around. That says a lot about the character of their team.
As far as the Sioux meeting the Goofs again, bring it on. I am sure most of us would love to see a Bickel vs. Finley dance at center ice.

  1. Goon, you're turning into a stereotypical Sioux fan, and it disappoints me.

That is one ugly Leprechaun in the penalty box too

  2. Goon- Did you catch Louie on Bareiro today? he'll forget more about hockey than i'll ever know BUT he lost some cred with me when he explained that Finley would've been in trouble if Bickel would've "got loose" in the handshake line. :) :) Ha ha ha ha!!!! oh, Louie, if you'd actually seen the game, Bickel the hak wanted no part in that altercation. he took a swipe at Finley from the side and then pretended that Zajac was holding him back. later he found comfort hiding behind Guentzel as the teams talked trash before hitting the showers. comical!

    boosh- go away.

  3. Goon, let's face it. If this situation were reversed, you would change your tune entirely. Every Sioux player is hard-nosed, every Gopher player is a dirty hack, even if they do the exact same thing.

Please stop telling people to remove their maroon and gold colored glasses when you are every bit as guilty of homerism. It's starting to piss me off.

  4. Isn't this HOCKEY, not ballet? If you can't handle a little cross-checking, shouldn't you play the xylophone in the Grand Forks Symphony Orchestra?

  5. Archie I haven't listen to him yet but I do listen to Nannie on my IPOD when he is on Dan B show.

RWD, A little Cross Check, it is just as bad as the one that took Duncan out of the game 7 seconds in. That is what most of us take issue with.

    Fan=fanatic.

I watched the Areos and Rampage on FSN the other night, Jon Scott looked pretty good for the Areos.

  8. Oh Archie, I am at home, posting on my computer, but thanks for showing how incredibly smart you are. We suck so bad that you guys already swept us... oh wait, you didn't... and we're in the bottom of the league... oh no, we're in fourth... and we have no chance of post-season play... oh wait, we're 8th in the PWR.
Oh Sioux fans. Everybody sucks except the Sioux... and oh wait, they suck too! I've never seen a fanbase so insulting to its own team, and then hop right back on the bandwagon after a rough patch!
If you guys notice, I don't post on SiouxSports anymore. It's disgusting over there. Everything you fans criticize about the Gophers, you applaud with the Sioux. The only reason I don't quit reading this blog is because I've been reading it practically since Goon started it (FYI Archie, I'm not just here to criticize and run the way most people are, and I don't do it hiding behind anonymity), and most of the time I don't find the content so infuriating.
I will probably stop reading this site, though, if crap like this continues. You can't excuse the actions of your own team and villify the same behavior in your opponents. If Don Lucia had flipped off the ref, you'd be crying for the death penalty.
I could go on and on, but I've got to go to work.
