UMD gets Dogged by the Sioux.
After a well deserved two weeks off The Fighting Sioux righted the ship at a home as they crushed the hapless UMD Bull Dogs 5-1 to take the two game series 2-0 and the season series 4-0. In the series the Fighting Sioux outscored UMD 9-1. The Fighting Sioux are 11-1 in their last 12 games against UMD. The Sioux lit up UMD goalie Isaac Reichmuth for 5 goals a night after the Fighting Sioux victimized former UND and Red River goalie Nate Ziggleman for 4 goals, two of the goals were very weak.
On the other end of the ice Jordan Parise stopped 50-51 shots this weekend solidifying himself as the go to guy going into the playoffs. In my opinion Jordan should be the defensive player of the weekend, however, I am sure the political WCHA will some how end up giving it to some hack like Kellen Briggs. Because we all know a University of Minnesota victory is much more significant than a UND victory. Also, hobby Baker Memorial trophies are more important than NCAA titles.
Saturday night ended up being another night where the freshman came up big, again as two newcomers scored three points each on the night: Jonathan Toews had a two goals and an assist also, Ryan Duncan who had a goal and two assists. In looking at the numbers UND fans can only be excited, as the Sioux’s future looks very bright. Jonathan Toews was amazing last night scoring two goals of the high light variety most of his thirteen goals this season have been of the high light variety. There are so many great young first year players putting up big numbers for the Fighting Sioux this season. With their three point nights Duncan and Toews both have 21 points on the 2005-2006 season.
