Goalie Fight - Carey Price vs Tim Thomas

Redwing77's favorite Habs goalie Carey Price got into an alleged fight tonight with all world Bruins goalie Timmy Thomas. While they called it a fight in the box score this looked more like a dance among friends if you ask me. Here is the penalties from the scrum [Box Score]

Tim Thomas; how do you like this?

Check out this save by Tim Thomas against the Toronto Maple Leafs. This save is nothing short of amazing. Last season Tim Thomas had what I would describe as a rough season and the Boston Bruins fans want to put Thomas on the scrap heap of history... This season Tim Thomas has bounced back into top form and has pile up some eye popping numbers so far this season 13-2-2 1.46 GAA and a save percentage of .956, not bad eh...

Tim Thomas save on Stoll

This is the save of the night and the year in my opinion. Last year there were many Boston Bruins fans that wanted to throw Tim Thomas under the bus and there were many fans that wanted the Bruin's management to trade him to another team. I wonder if these same fans are happy that Tim Thomas is still on the Boston Bruins hockey team.

How good is Tim Thomas? How do you like him now?

According to ESPN Tim Thomas' numbers are very impressive and hard to top. Consider last season Bruins fans were ready to throw him under the bus and anoint Tuukka Rask the starter and run Thomas out of Boston on a rail.
ESPN --- With his third shutout of the season Saturday night, Tim Thomas becomes only the second goalie in the expansion era (since 1967-68) with at least 3 shutouts in his first 6 games of a season was Pascal Leclaire in 2007-08 who had 4.

Thomas is now 6-0-0 with a 0.50 goals-against average in his first 6 games of the season. That's also the lowest goals-against average for a goalie who won his first 6 games of a season in the expansion era.

Sources: Flyers Inquire About Boston Goalie Thomas

This is a story that has picked up steam tonight on line. Redwing77 mentioned in an earlier blog post that the Boston Bruins are shopping their over priced former number one goalie around the NHL. The Bruins are going to be hard pressed to trade Thomas because of his age and his expensive contract.
LOS ANGELES – Goalie Tim Thomas is 36 years old and would cost $5 million a year in cap space, “if” someone decided to make a trade with Boston.

Sources at the Board of Governors confirmed on Thursday that Flyers general manager Paul Holmgren and Boston’s Peter Chiarelli have spoken about the netminder, who has three years left on his contract and has been replaced as a starter by Tuukka Rask.

Chiarelli is trying hard to unload Thomas and has spoken to a number of clubs. Neither Holmgren nor Chiarelli would comment.

Flyers’ sources say, however, they consider Thomas “too expensive,” despite his 2.56 goals-against average and .915 save percentage in 43 games last season.

Outside sources say, however, the Flyers are willing to move two players “if” they decide to go the Thomas route and “if” it’s the right players to move. Those sources added the only untouchable Flyers are Mike Richards and Jeff Carter.

That said, these sources have the impression that, in the end, the Flyers may end up re-signing Michael Leighton...

Tim Thomas: 'Too Early' To Entertain Idea of Waiving No-Trade Clause

It was a obvious that Bruins goalie Tim Thomas didn't have as good of season as he did during his Venzina Trophy winning season the year before, however, I think the Bruins management might want to think long and hard before they run Tim Thomas out of town via a trade. Well unless you can get great value in return in the form of offense. In my opinion, Tim Thomas is a good goalie and I predict that he will rebound next season.
It was an interesting 2009-10 season for Bruins goalie Tim Thomas to say the least, so it seemed only fitting that he was the last Bruin to address the media on the team’s annual -- yet not-so-enjoyable breakup day at TD Garden Tuesday morning.

After winning the Vezina Trophy in 2008-09 and coming into the season as the incumbent starter between the pipes for the Black and Gold, Thomas fell behind the 8 Ball with an early season injury. While his stats (17-18-8, 2.56 GAA, .915 save-percentage) weren’t bad, he never seemed to regain the Vezina form and consistency of the previous season.

Thomas eventually lost the starting job to rookie Tuukka Rask and was the subject of numerous trade rumors at the NHL trade deadline in March. With the team’s offseason underway and Thomas carrying a hefty $14 million salary cap hit spread out over the next three seasons, questions are already being asked if Thomas, who has a no-trade clause, might entertain a change of scenery and waive the no-trade to be a starter again for another team?

"Too early," he said right away. "Those kind of thoughts are something that need to be thought over carefully and over a longer period of time and I haven’t had the luxury of doing that yet. It is so early after the end of the season that I haven’t took the time yet. We have had these end of the year meetings, get our equipment, we have had some other activities. Over the next month I will let things kind of settle in my mind and come up with some of that stuff later, but not yet."
