NHL Hockey: Do you have a problem with the Thomas Hertl goal?

So, do you have an issue with the goal that Sharks forward Thomas Hertl scored against the New York Rangers? I don't know, I don't have a problem with this per se, it's over celebrating, but some players do that on every single goal that they score. I can think of a particular college hockey team that does that.

Apparently, the Washington Capitals head coach Adam Oates does.

Capitals Coach Adam Oates can appreciate the cool play, but sides with those who don’t see that type of goal as appropriate.

“I’m upset. I was just talking to George [McPhee] and he said all the kids do that nowadays, which I understand. But would he have done it on his first goal?” Oates said. “He hasn’t scored yet tonight and he gets a breakaway, is he going to do that

Sure, Hertl is showboating, but he does score an amazing goal. I suppose during the old days, someone would have come up and pounded on Hertl, or not. I am not sure if the Capitals have the moral high ground either. Alex Ovechkin scored a goal and then dropped his stick and pretended it was too hot to pick up.

Sharks' Stuart suspended three games

Brad Stuart has been suspended by the NHL for three games for this hit on Rick Nash. I think it's the right call in this situation. Thoughts on this hit? Do you think the suspension is excessive?

NEW YORK – San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart has been suspended for three games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of New York Rangers forward Rick Nash during NHL Game No. 44 in San Jose on Tuesday, October 8, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.

Under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and based on his average annual salary, Stuart will forfeit $55,384.62. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 2:32 of the first period. Stuart was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing.

Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart has a hearing for his brutal, dirty, and unneeded hit on Rick Nash. These are the kinds of hits that the NHL is trying to ban from the game of hockey. Also, Nash was suffering from headaches after the game. Again, there are some people that are appalled by fighting in the NHL, I am appalled by these types of hits.

NHL.COM -- San Jose Sharks defenseman Brad Stuart will have a hearing Wednesday with the NHL Department of Player Safety for an incident during a game Tuesday night against the New York Rangers at SAP Center.

At 2:32 of the first period, Stuart was assessed a minor penalty for elbowing after a hit on New York forward Rick Nash.

Nash played several more shifts in the first period, but did not return after the first intermission.Rick

The following grounds are being considered for supplemental discipline: illegal check to the head. However, the Department of Player Safety retains the right to make adjustments to the infraction upon review.

Here's my question; do you think that Stuart will be suspended for this hit? If so, how many games? I think this is going to be a 2-3 game ban.

Rangers Hockey: Former UND Forward Danny Kristo has Chance to make Rangers Roster

Perusing the Internet this morning, I found this story that some might find interesting. I was wondering myself if Danny Kristo might have a chance to make the New York Rangers out of training camp with all of the injuries the Rangers have had in the off-season. I guess we will find out soon?

Ryan Kennedy, The Hockey News – Across the river in New York, Kristo will be looking to make a good first impression at Rangers camp. Ryan Callahan and Carl Hagelin will likely start the year on the shelf due to off-season surgeries, meaning the right winger from the University of North Dakota may earn some time with the big club right away.

But on a cold Grand Forks night in early 2011, Kristo made a poor decision that almost cost him his livelihood, if not some extremities. Walking outside in minus-40 fahrenheit weather, he lost his shoe in a snowbank and after trying in vain to dislodge it, walked the rest of the way home without it. Kristo got frostbite on one hand and one foot and initially, doctors feared they would have to amputate.

“It makes you put things in perspective,” Kristo said. “A little bit scary, but I came out fine. I had good teammates and a good coaching staff plus my family to help me through that.”

Originally drafted 56th overall by Montreal in 2008, Kristo was dealt to the Rangers in July for fellow prospect Christian Thomas. Kristo believes New York was interested thanks to his showing at the World Championship, where he played in all 10 games for Team USA, winning a surprise bronze medal in the process.

The Boston Bruins have resigned Tuuka Rask and Patrice Bergeron to eight-year contracts. Bergy’s deal is worth 52 million and Tukka’s deal is worth 56 million dollars.

The Minnesota Wild have signed Jonathon Blum and Jon Landry to one-year, two-way free agent deals. Landry will more than likely play with the Iowa Wild of the AHL. Blum is a former first round draft choice for the Nashville Predators and played in 35 NHL games last season, I suppose Blum will have a chance to make the Wild out of training camp, he will definitely add to the competition for making one of the final six spots in the defensive corps.

The New York Rangers have signed former Minnesota Wild pylon Justin Falk to a one-year contract worth 975,000.00. Yikes, thank God Wild fans will no longer have to watch the slow footed Falk getting walked by Western Conference forwards anymore.

Maple Leafs toughest test for Bruins?

I can't believe that someone would write this article. A loss, is a loss. Every series is different. It was like the Boston Bruins were a different team after they were done playing the Leafs as well. For what ever reason.

Kevin McGran, Sports reporter -- Leaf Nation must look at how the Boston Bruins manhandled the New York Rangers and Pittsburgh Penguins and wonder what might have been . . . if only the Maple Leafs had held on to that Game 7 lead.

The Leafs, however, aren’t wondering any such thing.

“We lost,” head coach Randy Carlyle said emphatically, putting the notion to rest.

“You can look at it and hypothesize we would have had success, but that’s far from guaranteed,” added goalie Ben Scrivens. “And I’m sure if you would have asked the Rangers (about the possibility of) playing Toronto, they probably would have thought they’d have had a pretty good shot against us.

“There’s a lot of speculation. I don’t know if I would go so far as to say we would have had as much success. Obviously we have a lot of faith within our group that we can get the job done.”

In a surprising twist given the one-sided Boston-Toronto matchup the past few seasons, the Leafs had more playoff success against the Bruins than did the playoff-experienced Rangers and talent-loaded Penguins.

And figure this out: Phil Kessel’s four post-season goals vs. Boston are more than Rick Nash (2), Brad Richards (1), Sidney Crosby and Evgeni Malkin (zeroes) combined.

What did the Leafs do that Pittsburgh should have?

Sounds like Maple Leafs are still smarting from their game seven collapse to the Boston Bruins.

What a joke they nominated this clown Pittsburgh Penguins forward Matt Cooke for the Masterton Trophy. This guy has been suspended at least 31 games by the NHL for his acts of transgression.

I think this hit deserves a game suspension from the NHL's department of Players safety. Why wouldn't it? It's Matt Cooke, he's an multiple time offender. I actually think that Boston Bruins rookie defenseman Torey Krug did his teammate a favor by slowing down Cooke, or this would have been even uglier. Thoughts, from readers.

There is a new drinking game; every time the Boston Bruins fourth line/Merlot Line is mentioned drink a beer, or take a shot or you can take a drink. You would never make it through the game sober, unless you're drinking water or pop.

That being said, the Pittsburgh Penguins probably aren't going to be as impressed with the Boston Bruins fourth line, because they're a really talented hockey team, but the fact remains you can't discount what they accomplished during the second round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Here's the stats for the Merlot line Shawn Thornton (0g-3a—3pts), Gregory Campbell (3g-2a—5pts), Daniel Paille (1g-3a—4pts).

I have been doing a bi-weekly feature on the former college hockey players, that are currently playing in the 2013 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Here's two former college hockey players that had an impact in tonight's game, between the Boston Bruins and the New York Rangers. First goal, Boston Bruins defenseman Torey Krug scored his third goal of the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoff on the power play in his seventh NHL game. in four games with the Boston Bruins, Krug has scored (3g-1a—4pts) and in seven career games Krug has scored (3g-3a—6pts), that’s pretty impressive in my book.

Carl Hagelin answers the Torey Krug goal with this interesting goal almost a minute later. I am not sure that Tuukka Rask expected to slip and fall and give up that easy of a goal to the New York Rangers.

(Video) Bruins Merlot line lead B's to a 3-0 Series lead

The Boston Bruins have pushed the New York Rangers to the brink of elimination, with a 2-1 victory over the New York Rangers, Tuesday night at Madison Square Garden. The Bruins erased a 1-0 Rangers lead in the third period with goals from Johnny Boychuk and Daniel Paille.

I don’t know how you could describe Paille’s miraculous goal, the goal came off a goofy rebound that should have found its way into the net, but had eyes. Seriously, you have to see this goal to believe it. The puck that was shot by Gregory Campbell looked like it came off the face of a sand wedge and had some serious back-spin on it. If I was going to describe it, the puck’s movement looked more like Titleist Pro V1 golf than a hockey puck. The puck was going towards the goal line – hit the goal line and spun back like it was hit by Tiger Woods. The puck never broke the plane until Paille put the puck past Henrik Lundqvist on the rebound, for the game winning goal.

I know some people are sick of hearing about the fourth line, but you can see that the Merlot line had the majority of the points for the Boston Bruins tonight, Shawn Thornton (0g-2a—2pts), Gregory Campbell (0g-1a—1pts), Daniel Paille (1g-1a—2pts). Boston Bruins defenseman Johnny Boychuk also got his fourth goal of the playoffs tonight as well.

New Drinking game. Everytime Pierre McGuire mentions the Bruins fourth line drink a beer, you will not be sober by the end of the game.

Zdeno Chara gets hit in the face by Ryan Callahan, no call on the play

The Officiating has been poor in the Stanley Cup Playoffs this year, there is no doubt about it. This is an obvious high stick by Rangers forward Ryan Callahan on Boston Bruins defenseman Zdeno Chara that went uncalled, that should drawn a double minor penalty. Four officials on the ice and no one saw it. The Officials did manage to call a very weak penalty on Jaromir Jagr that was much less serious than this.

The Boston Bruins took the New York Rangers to the woodshed today. It appears that the Bruins might have been a bit off or even worn out from their screwed up schedule in the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs against the Toronto Maple Leafs.

One my friends – a great hockey mind – told me that the Boston Bruins were lucky to win their first round series against the Maple Leafs. This is a fact that I agree with.

I have said on a couple occasion that I think that the Boston Bruins slept walked through the first round of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. The Bruins looked tired and didn't have any energy in their step, that all seems to have changed now. I don't know if the Bruins are  more rested or of they have found a second gear. I am not sure what is going on here, but the Boston Bruins are playing better.

In the second round so far, the Bruins top six forwards have been absolutely awesome. In the first round, many of us were ready to send out a search party for them.

Boston Bruins forward Brad Marchand had another two point game (1g-1a—2pts) and now has five points in his last three games (2g-3a—5pts) after only scoring two points in the first round against the Toronto Maple Leafs. Patrice Bergeron is starting to find his game as well and has been red hot as of late as well… Bergy has (2g-4a—6pts) in the last three games after scoring just a single point in the first five games that he played in.

Make that two goals in two games for Boston Bruins rookie defenseman, Torey Krug. The Livonia, Michigan product has played in a grand total of five NHL games and has two NHL goals, both in this year's Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Brad Marchand wins it in O.T. for the Bruins... 3-2

The Boston Bruins were lucky to get the win against the Toronto Maple Leafs in the first round, the Boston Bruins outshot the New York Rangers 48-35 and had a 16-5 edge in shots in the overtime period. New York Rangers goalie Henrik Lundqvist kept the Rangers in the game by stopping 45/48 shots.

Brad Marchand had two points in the first six games that he played in during the 2013 Stanley Cup Playoffs, now has three point in two games and (1g-4a—5pts) in eight games. Patrice Bergeron had two points in the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs, now has four points in last two games and has been a big part of the Bruins turn around.

NHL plans to "overdo" the outdoor game experience

Wow! Just for the record, I do think overdo is appropriate word in this case by definition. Per the dictionary - overdo to do too much, or to excess Remember when one outdoor game a season used to be sufficient? Now there is going to be two games alone at Yankee Stadium and the Rangers are going to play in two of the games in one season.

Pat Leonard, NEW YORK DAILY NEWS – The Bronx is freezing.

The NHL is planning an outdoor Stadium Series for next season headlined by two Rangers games at Yankee Stadium, one against the New Jersey Devils on Jan. 26 and another against the Islanders on Jan. 29, the Daily News has confirmed.

TSN first reported the planned series, which is not yet contractually finalized but would include six outdoor games total, beginning with the Jan. 1 Winter Classic between the Toronto Maple Leafs and Detroit Red Wings at Michigan Stadium.

I am not really a fan of the outdoor game. But like a good car accident, I like to take look. I can imagine that beer sales will be very good for the two game event. I mean what next? Do we have a block of 10 outdoor games?
