Worth a listen? - This weeks GPL Podcast...

If you haven't listened to the Gopher Puck Live Podcast it's remotely entertaining. I listen to their podcast every week when I am out walking the dog or riding my bike. It's definitely skewed toward the Minnesota Golden Gophers hockey team but still interesting.

This week the first 7-8 minutes is spent complaining about the refs and how the WCHA officials called the Gophers and Mavericks game poorly. Hello!  What did you expect? I have been saying some of the stuff for years.

Apparently, they just got the memo down in the "Cities," I am going to say that it's not an earth shattering revelation. I guess when your team is taking 14.6 minutes per game in penalties minutes, you're going to see your team spending a lot of time in the penalty box.
Ryan Cardinal on the refs, “I didn’t buy into the whole the WCHA referees are garbage, mainly because it started from Grand Forks, and I usually go the other way whatever those people think, but I am totally on board with that now, it’s getting worse by the weekend, it almost seems. “

For all of these years Sioux fans have been called "halos" by Gopher fans. What the heck does this qualify as?
Also, before someone comes on here from the Gopher fan base and accuses me of being a Gopher hater or something to that nature, this wasn’t my intention. I enjoyed the hilarity of their podcast and I am passing it along so others have a chance to listen to it.There is not a lot of college hockey talk anywhere and I genuinely like this podcast. Paul Ladue CCM Defensive Player of the Week

USHL Photo
Former Grand Forks Central Knight's Star Paul Ladue is the USHL's CCM Defensive Player of the Week.
USHL.COM --- Paul Ladue recorded six points (1g, 5a) and a plus-four rating to help the Stars win all four of their games during the week and take over the top spot in the Western Conference standings. He assisted on the game-winning goal in three straight games – Tuesday’s 6-2 win vs. Sioux City, Friday’s 3-2 win over Sioux Falls, and again during Saturday’s 2-1 victory against Omaha. The 19-year-old then was the hero on Sunday as he scored the game-winning goal with just four seconds remaining in the third period to give the Stars a 6-5 victory over Tri-City. Ladue, a native of Grand Forks, North Dakota, is second among USHL defensemen with 10 points (2g, 8a) and is tied for third overall in the League with a plus-nine rating.

Delay Proposed To Replace Fighting Sioux Nickname

I have been out of the loop for about five days and I am beginning to wade through mounds of newspaper articles about the Fighting Sioux nickname repeal law and I think this is the best option that I have read so far. There is no logical reason to rush Willy Nilly to get a new nickname in place. Also, I like the option of just being “North Dakota” and hope that option gains some traction, forever. I always liked the slogan, 'We are One. We are North Dakota.'
BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - North Dakota lawmakers say the University of North Dakota should wait three years before replacing its Fighting Sioux athletics nickname.

The North Dakota House and Senate education committees have endorsed allowing UND to retire the Fighting Sioux nickname and American Indian head logo.

The full House and Senate still have to approve the bill before it becomes law.

Grand Forks Rep. Stacey Dahl says the measure prevents UND from adopting a new nickname and logo until January 2015. She calls it a "cooling-off" period.

Board of Higher Education president Grant Shaft says the board supports the idea.

The committees voted Tuesday to endorse the proposal. Now it goes to the Senate for its first vote. The vote hasn't been scheduled.
