This kind of sums it up.

The NCAA tourney is a one and done tourney, lose and your team goes home... BUZZ Kill - sure, that's the finality of the NCAA hockey tourney, the season for the 2009-2010 Fighting Sioux is over. There is no tomrrow. Thanks for the memories. Go Fighting Sioux...
“It hasn’t 100 percent sunk in yet that our season is done,” UND forward Jason Gregoire said. “When it’s one game and your done, it’s really frustrating to come out like that. It’s tough. A lot of guys know they are coming back, but for the seniors, it’s really unbelievable. I feel so much for them. It’s really a tough thing.”

Chris VandeVelde and Darcy Zajac played in their final game as members of the Sioux. UND’s only other senior, Chay Genoway, could apply for a medical redshirt. Genoway suffered a concussion in November and never returned the rest of the season. [Grand Forks Herald]

  1. Hakstol did not have the team prepared for Yale style of hockey -- that was evident during the first period. Which the Souix looked lost and gave Yale too much control and opportunities. After 2 periods it should have been 0-0. Its time fo Coach Hakstol to move on the find a coach who can shape the play by opponent. This is a repeart of losses in past years to Boston College.

  2. We lost to a good YALE team but.....WE ENDED THE GOPHERS SEASON...and won the Broadmore. SKI-U-MA! VandeVelde and Zajak are outstanding representatives of the ND program and I see nothing but good things in their future. To the rest of the team, I sincerely hope there's the "win one for the coaches" attitude, or whatever it takes, that brings them all back next year, including Chay Genoway. Unlike other teams, ND continues to be competitive every year and next year will be no different! Congratulations to ND for a great year and another championship caliber team. To Goon and the other administrators of this forum, thanks for keeping me up to speed on all things ND hockey and beyond.

  6. At the West Regional final last night between Wisconsin and St Cloud, a fan held up a big sign that read "Thank you Yale!" The entire arena erupted in a loud cheer. Is there a trend here? Yep, and its pretty obvious.

  7. WCHAdominates your team is now 1-9 in the NCAA tourney, so you really don't have much to beat your chest about either.

I am sure that if a sign had said SCSU 1-8 in the NCAA and soon to be 1-9 the arena would have cheered or laughed as well. I am cheering for Wisconsin in the Frozen Four this season.

If you want to beat your chest about that so be it. I am not sure why your coach insists on putting Lee in over Dunn. I would be willing to bet that if Dunn had started last night your team would have had a better chance of winning.

  8. I'm sorry the season is over for THE SIOUX, but they gave us lots of great memories during a monumental end of the year run. Mark is a DBag if he thinks Hakstol didn't do a phenomenal job this year...along with the team. Suck it up sissy boy, good teams still lose, you don't go railin' on a first class coach like that.

I look at the depth and talent that is likely to be back next year and I can't help but be excited for October.

  9. That wasn't really my point Goon. 1-9 is very bad, but its better than 0-9, eh?

And yes, also pulling for Bucky because they are solely representing the WCHA now. Had UND done so, I would cheer for them. Had SCSU done so, I hope you would cheer for them. The national championship needs to get back to the best league in the country.

  11. Fire Hakstol... Gotta love it.

    Hakstol's job = SAFE.

    Yours?

That being said, here's to returning next year.

I can't wait to see Yale come back to the NCAAs. They got their first win in the NCAAs since what... 1952? Good for them! I'm sure Allain's job was rife for the taking last year, right?

Naw, I'm just a bit touchy. I'm ok with Hakstol staying. The Haters can keep on hating because you're stuck with Hakstol... And the coaches that respect him around the league aren't happy about it because they'd rather face someone who is inexperienced... easier to beat.

  12. Hakstol haters should try having Troy Jutting as your head coach. Then you would have something to bitch about. Seriously. Let's trade and see what you think.

  13. If Hakstol is fired, who are you gonna bring in? I can't think of anyone. Remember, we had Blais and fired his ass when his teams underachieved too.

I think that Yale had too much team speed overall, and the Sioux also did not adjust well to the time change. Yeah, it's only one hour but that is a little over one period of hockey and the Sioux were down 2-0 after the first.

And, didn't this team have 10 freshmen? And only 3 seniors (Chay may be back next year)? If Marvin doesn't goon it up, the Sioux might have made the Frozen Four.

  14. I don't think Hakstol should be fired. In looking back this team was young and they might have wore themseleves out last weekend winning the Final Five.
