First off: Nice to see former Fighting Sioux star Zach Parise make team USA. That makes two former Sioux to be on Olympic roster for the 2010 games.

Second: I am surprised that T.J. Oshie didn’t make the Olympic team over Chris Drury. I know Drury has played in International play before but I don’t think his play this season has warranted being selected to play in the Olympics.

Apparently, LGM has connections to Team USA to know that Backes was a lock to be on team USA. I am not shocked by the selection and David has played in International competition for team USA before. I kind of felt that he would be there as well.

As a Bruins fan do we have to cheer for Mike Komisarek? I just every time I see him on the ice I vision him getting worked by Milan Lucic.
BallHype: hype it up!

  1. I'm glad Backes made it. That kid really deserves it for as hard as he's worked in his career.

  2. Oh, and maybe Oshie's age played into him not making it? I don't know the age of other players but just a guess? Or maybe they're worried he'll pee some place wrong and get arrested out of the country and it'll be a mess?!?! HAHA HAHAHAHHAHAHAHHA!

  4. I know you've always been a Backes fan...way back to his Maverick days. It's good to see him make the team and I hope he does really well!

  5. I was at the Blues-Wild game last Saturday. St Louis has a nice group of former WCHA-ers, but they are not a very good team. Backes is by far their best forward, but he does take a ton of penalties - and one of them directly resulted in a Minnesota goal. He's gotta be more discipline on the ice. Erik Johnson needs to start hitting people too. I didn't see him throw a single body check the whole game, even with his huge frame and smooth skating skills.

  6. David Backes made the USA team when he became the only Forward for Team USA to fight in International Competition (His world Junior year with Matt Greene). Burke likes tough power forwards, and thats why back in September Burke had Backes go on Good Morning America and represent Team USA when talking about the Olympic Games. That made him a lock, back then, as well as Dustin Brown, as he shot the promo commercials in September with Backes.

Disappointed that Osh didn't make the team. He's been the BLUES ONLY forward that has been playing Top Scoring Line duties as well as PP, PK, EV, 4 on 4, 3 on 5, and Shootout. He's the Blues most complete forward. Now that Murray is gone with Payne behind the bench Oshie's #'s will get better. If anyone on Team USA can't go, I think Osh, is the next in line, then Okposo.

As for Erik Johnson making it. Yeah, his assists are up, but he's been a healthy scratch lately, and if Murray still would've been here, he could've been benched for tonights game against Chicago. His defensive game is horrible! He plays more forward duties then defense. He pinches at wrong times, stays below the hash marks wayyyy too long when in the offensive zone.. But I'm sure it would have looked bad, if the #1 overall pick from 4 years ago, doesn't make the Olympic team.. He'll probably ride the pine, but still.. Shocked is all...

Oh well, Life will go on..
