Sioux 3 Gophers 3.

They say that getting a tie against your heated rival feels like kissing your sister. Actually, I think the Sioux got away with some sloppy play in their own end and lost a lot of battles to the puck. I don’t like to be negative when the Sioux got three out of four points against a decent opponent in their building before January 1st and three points is three points. On the goaltending blunders that I saw tonight, someone has go to work with Brad Eidsness about covering the post correctly, Eidsness over played the puck when he didn’t need to. Stay in your net and let the puck come to you. If Eids doesn't’t play that puck there is a chance the Sioux win. Also, Jake Marto made a huge save at the end of the game to keep UND in the game.

The Fighting Sioux defensemen were a step slow tonight and they need to win the races to the puck if the Fighting Sioux are going to be successful. The forwards have got to pick up their man in the defensive zone as well. I thought in the third period and the overtime that the Fighting Sioux defenseman and forwards did a better job getting in the passing lanes than the first half of the game.

Hobey Chay

I thought that senior defenseman Chay Genoway who had three points on the weekend (3g-0a-3pts ) was awesome with the puck in his own end and made all of the right decisions, and if I could have a vote he would be my choice for defensive player of the week in the WCHA. I think this season that Genoway will have a legitimate shot at being a Hobey Baker Memorial Award finalist at the end of the season, if Chay  keeps his level of play at a high level consistently. If he keeps playing like this he should be in consideration. I noticed that I am not the only one with this opinion.

Solid performers for the Weekend.

Mario Lamoureux (1g-1a-2pts)
Danny Kristo (0g-2a-2pts)
David Toews (0g-2a-2pts)
Chay Genoway (3g-0a-3pts)
Brad Eidsness (1-0-1) 1.44 GAA SV % .927
Sioux defense kept Jordan Schroeder off the score board all weekend.

From the Minnesota hockey beat writer/homer.
North Dakota defenseman Chay Genoway fell on the ice to try to block Barriball's shot as he neared the Sioux net. Barriball went high and beat Eidsness on the glove side.
With 3 minutes to go, those two got tangled up behind the Sioux net and both received penalties. Barriball for diving, Genoway for unsportsmanlike conduct, presumably for mocking how easily Barriball fell to the ice. In the penalty box, Genoway kept chirping and several times demonstrated the form on a front dive.
I don't know if anyone else feels this way but in my opinion Ryan Flynn is one of the biggest hacks in the WCHA, there is only one bigger hack and he was sitting in the stands this weekend, Brian Schack. Flynn and Lucia were begging for a beat down and deserved one.

End of Game --- Sister kissing

  1. Chay is going to have to put up a lot of points and beat the east coast bias too.

  2. Chay may want to brush up on his manners. His display this evening fell a bit short regarding two of the Hobey Baker award criteria:

Candidates must exhibit strength of character both on and off the ice.

Consideration should be given to scholastic achievement and sportmanship.

  3. Someone needs to teach Flynn some manners as well, the guy is a serious hack. Not impressed with little Lucia either.

  4. charlie- i'll tell you one thing. chay's got more character than you do so i wouldn't be talking smack. considering he had the flu, he was still the best player all weekend. someone's gotta have the team's back if the gopher pansies are going to go around diving all the time.

  5. Boo Effing Hoo. Gopher dives and Chay calls him on his sportsmanship.

    Gutless officials throw them both.

The problem last night is the Gophers knew the only chance they had to sneak any points was to lull us to sleep on Friday night.

  6. It's funny, I don't like a lot of Hextall's antics, but I love it when Genoway does it. Probably because Genoway, IMO, is a much much more talented player.

  7. Hextall is awesome but I think Hak actually sat him on the bench on Saturday and didn't play him as much as series past.

  8. Charlie, the Gophers captain is one of the biggest hacks in the game of college hockey. Flynn and Lucia are disgraces to the "M"

  9. Sarah, Cool off. He's obviously an amazing college player, but if somebody wants to be the Hobey Baker winner they need to mind their Ps and Qs.

Goon, We each have different colored glasses on.

  10. I am cooled, thanks and you could at least spell my name right considering it's right in front of you. And I'd be willing to bet Chay doesn't give a crap about winning the hobey baker. anyone else want to take bets about when tony lucia is going to start picking on someone his own size?

  11. Glad you're feeling better Sara. Pardon the typo. You're kinda bristly...

You sound as though you know Chay pretty well. Thank you for sharing your insight regarding his Hobey Baker award ambivalence. I find it interesting.

  12. Independent of the antics that always show up in this rivarly, I would have to agree with Goon. The Sioux got lucky on Saturday night. Their play was lazy and sloppy, with Genoway appearing to be the only one making an effort. It seemed like they couldn't win key faceoffs and were rarely first to the puck. Perhaps a bit less celebrating after the Friday night win would have made a difference.
