ReplyDeleteThe lack of respect UND gets drives me insane! The pairwise (granted I havent taken the time to read up on how the pairwise works exactly) is consistantly ranking us far lower than any other poll. When will UND get the respect we deserve? It shows the goofers making the tourney as of now! How is that possible?
ReplyDeleteI don't think there is any lack of respect for UND. UND's been forced to play catch-up in each and every poll/ranking out there due to their poor play in the first half of the season. The pairwise has UND @ 7 and the polls have us @6. That seems pretty close.
ReplyDeleteThe only gripe that one might have is Denver being ahead of us. IMO, you could flip-flop those and sioux fans would be happy. I'm surprised that Denver hasn't dropped more since 2009 began.
I don't think there is a disrespect for the Sioux, I think they start out on the wrong foot and took a while to recover. UND was like 5-8-1 at one point during the season before they went on a torrid run.
ReplyDeleteThe pairwise is objective and polls are subjective. UND is getting respect in the polls despite a lower PWR, Mr. Thompson.
ReplyDeleteThe pairwise rankings and the WCHA standings are the real numbers that fans should be looking at right now. The polls mean almost nothing. They are merely a vote from national hockey media. Roper and Goon are right, UND, although very good in the second half, didn't do well in the first half and that's what kind of held them back. Remember, they also lost to lowly Michigan State and Michigan Tech in the GLI back in December as well. Denver has been more consistent all season long, that's why they're ranked higher in the poll and the pairwise. As of today, Minnesota would not be in. Denver, UND, and UMD would assuming no other conference tournament upsets. CC, Minnesota, St Cloud, and Wisconsin are all on the wrong side of the bubble.
