You kind of figured this was coming, you kind of wondered when it was coming. Clear Channel has been known in the past to not show a lot of leniency in these types of cases and I am not sure they should have have to either. This story probably was a bit of an embarrassment to the KFAN station with all of the negative press surrounding this arrest.
That being said; I wish Jeff Dubay nothing but the best, he is a human being and will be pulling for him, hopefully now Dubay can put his life back together. Get some help...
It will be difficult fight, that he will fight for the rest of his life; but he can recover from this. While I do feel bad for Puffy he brought this stuff on himself and is now paying the piper. We all make decisions in our life some of which have dire consequences, I am saddened and disappointed. Drugs addiction is a horrible thing and he has to get a handle on these demons before he can move forward. I hope only hope that he can get himself squared away before it ruins his life.
KFAN fires Dubay
KFAN has parted ways with Jeff Dubay. The decision comes after Dubay was charged Wednesday with felony drug possession, accused of tossing crack cocaine and a pipe from his vehicle in Maplewood last week. Dubay had been the co-host of a mid-day show with Paul Allen for the past 10 years on the sports-talk station.
Mike Crusham, president and market manager for Clear Channel Minneapolis, which owns KFAN, confirmed Dubay's dismissal.
I think this quote really sums it up the best the by Jeff Dubay's former program director. A lot of us "RUBES" have a special place in our hearts for the common man like Puffy... After KFAN station remotes Dubay would stay around talk to the fans that were there to see the remote. Not all host do that...
While Clear Channel executives have been extremely limited by their lawyers in what they can say regarding Dubay's situation, Doug Westerman has no such restrictions. Westerman, the former program director at KFAN and a Clear Channel employee for more than 12 years before leaving the company in September 2007, played a large role in pairing Allen and Dubay together in 1998 after Jesse Ventura was taken off the air because he was running for governor. What was expected to be a brief stint as fill-ins turned into a permanent job when Ventura was elected governor.
"Jeff was unique in the ability to have chemistry with whoever we put him on the air with, it just so happened to work very, very well with PA, and the two of them thrived for many years," Westerman said. "I'd like to see him get another chance. I just hope he realizes he needs to resurrect his life and get things in order before he gets to work on his career. There are just so many people who love him and are rooting for him. Not only at the station, but I'm sure the listeners as well. The guy has got a huge heart."
I, too, hope Dubay can get it together and come back. He's a sports fan and sports radio rarely has fans on the air. It's one thing really missing in the media: Fans are missing. Jeff will be missed.

ReplyDeletewho cares!! He had everything going for him and he smoked crack. I think it is ironic when he was ripping Randy moss when he got caught for marijuana possesion. Randy claimed it was his friends weed. Dubay ripped into that defense. Shoe is on the other foot!
