I'm not a golfer, but I do know that gophers are not wanted on golf courses. The dig up the grass and make holes in the ground. These holes are dangerous to both types of golfers, sober and not-sober :)
Yes, gophers are fuzzy, and fun to watch, they are "playful" creatures. But almost everyone considers them a nuisance, especially within the city limits.
