(Video) Milan Lucic Fights outside Vancouver Club

This happened after the Boston Bruins lost to the Vancouver Canucks 6-2 on Saturday night. From the Sporting News.
After his Bruins lost to the Canucks in Vancouver on Saturday night, video surfaced of an angry Milan Lucic cursing outside a Vancouver nightclub following an apparent altercation.

No punches are thrown in the video, and Lucic was not the aggressor, but he did say he'd been hit twice and was upset that an officer suggested that he leave.

Vancouver Canucks: Zach Kassian no-class....

I would say that Zach Kassian is taunting an opponent. A bush league move in my opinion. Here's what Greg Wyshynski of Puck Daddy has to say on the matter.
Gagner faced the Canucks for the first time this season on Friday night. At one point, the teams were involved in a scrum that included his former oral surgeon Kassian.

Because hockey is a nasty, twisted psychological war in which nearly every topic can be weaponized for agitation, Kassian looked over at Gagner went … there.
Kassian is pretty much a meat head, a player that I would classify as a rat. Said "Rat" averages 11.16 minutes a game and has scored (17g-11a—28pts) in 111 NHL games. When one of your team mates punch him in his big mouth, he wins. In this case, this clown deserves it. I think hockey is starting to gain a punk mentality like the other major sports.

In this case, I think he performed with in his niche is to be an agitator, to do bush league moves like this. This season, said Rat has been already suspended five-games for breaking the jaw of Oilers forward Sam Gagner. That's why he was wearing the shield protecting his jaw.

This is one of the reasons I don't want to ever want see fighting taken out of the NHL. This clown needs to be looking over his shoulder. If fighting is removed or curtailed from the NHL, the "Rats" like this clown will flourish. Imagine if there's no fighting in the NHL? These types of incidents will lead to further random acts of violence. Eventually, someone will chop him head first into boards and he will probably end up being carried off of the ice on a stretcher.

Daniel Sedin loses a tooth against the Kings

Ouch! L.A. Kings forward Jake Muzzin received a double-minor for high-sticking Vancouver Canucks forward Daniel Sedin in the mouth. That has to hurt? But he's a hockey players so he has to be tough right? Oh Daniel Sedin had a nice smile right? Sedin would return to the game.

Brock Nelson Scores First NHL goal

Vancouver Canucks Defenseman Alex Edler suspended 3-games for illegal hit

Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler, a repeat offender was given a Shannaban for this dirty and bush league hit on Sharks forward Tomas Hertl, who's taken the NHL by storm with his play so far this season. Hertl has scored (6g-1a--7pts) in four games this season and scored four goals in one game against the New York Rangers.  My question is; did Edler target Hertl to make a point, or is Edler just a just a dirty player that finally got burned for making a dirty hit? Thoughts?

NEW YORK – Vancouver Canucks defenseman Alex Edler has been suspended for three games, without pay, for an illegal check to the head of San Jose Sharks forward Tomas Hertl during NHL Game No. 56 in Vancouver on Thursday, October 10, the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety announced today.
Edler is considered a repeat offender under the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement and based on his average annual salary, he will forfeit $182,926.83. The money goes to the Players' Emergency Assistance Fund.

The incident occurred at 19:46 of the second period. No penalty was assessed on the play.

Poke The Bear; Part 1 and 2

Some Vancouver Canucks fan that posts videos under the name MAKAVELI posted a couple of these spoofs directed towards the Boston Bruins on YouTube.com this the same guy that came up with the Embellishment City Video as well. His latest video is kind of funny as well, Diver vs. Diver. These videos are semi entertaining.

Wes Walz pokes fun at the Sedin twins

I suppose in today's world someone will take offense to this and probably will complain. To be honest with you, I hate the Vancouver Canucks, I think their a bunch of divers, cry babies and frauds. So, I am inclined to cut Wes Walz some slack and laugh with him on this one... Plus, he's a former Bruins and Wild player.

(Video) Embellishment City

What's laughable is a Canucks fans would come up with this spoof video on another team in the NHL diving. The Vancouver Canucks are the poster boys for diving and embellishment, if needed we can do a review of the offenders. This remotely amusing video, calls out the Brad Marchand for what a play during the 2012 NHL Stanley Cup Playoffs. Whatever. You would probably circle the earth twice with video tape, of all of the instances of the Canucks diving and embellishing calls.

Canucks Diver Kessler out with fracture foot?

The Vancouver Canucks look as if they will be missing their all-American diver/fraud Ryan Kesler who has a fractured foot.

Jannik Hansen hit to the head of Marian Hossa

During last night's game, Vancouver Canuck forward Jannik Hansen hit Chicago Blackhawk forward Marian Hossa's in the head  with this dirty hit. This play needs to be reviewed by the department of players safety. There is no doubt that this hit and should have been more than a two minute minor penalty, in my opinion.

Rule 48 - Illegal Check to the Head

48.1 Illegal Check to the Head – A hit resulting in contact with an opponent's head where the head is targeted and the principal point of contact is not permitted. However, in determining whether such a hit should have been permitted, the circumstances of the hit, including whether the opponent put himself in a vulnerable position immediately prior to or simultaneously with the hit or the head contact on an otherwise legal body check was avoidable, can be considered.

The Canucks Ryan Kesler show us how to dive and then get a penalty

Diving is ruining the game of hockey, on all levels and there is no excuse for it. Punish the offending players and it will evaporate from the game of hockey, almost over night.

Vancouver Canucks forward Ryan Kesler is dead to me, there is no excuse for the way he plays the game of hockey, while he might be a great young American forward, he's a fraud. Kesler is no better than his buddies  Alex Burrows and Maxim Lapierre who are also a disgrace to the game of hockey.

All three of these clowns are a text book examples on how to flail, dives, embellish. Disgusting.

Minnesota Wild Defenseman Clayton Stoner lays the woods to Vancouver Canucks forward fraud Alex Burrows. This a textbook legal hit. So far through one period this is the only bright spot for the Minnesota Wild.

UND vs. UW goals and Jefferson Dahl dive

Here is the video from UND's four goals last night. All of UND's last night were a direct result of them going to the net hard and beating the Badgers to the puck. UND took the Badgers to the woodshed last night, I thought defensively, North Dakota gave the Bagers little.

I thought UND was the better team for most of the weekend. I would give Badgers goalie Landon Peterson some credit, he's definitely a shut down goaltender, with the Badgers defensive systems they are going to be hard to get pucks past.

I included video of the Dan Senkbeil and Jefferson Dahl, if you watch Dahl he crumples up like he has been shot. I am not saying that it didn't hurt, but really... Senkbeil didn't hit him that hard. Ryan Kessler would be proud of Dahl.

All weekend long, the Badgers were doing their best Vancouver Canucks impersonation. I included the video where you see Andrew MacWillam show his disgust with the Badger player that dove to the ice.

*In no way am I saying UND players have never dove, I am not saying they don't on occasion, but I have rarely seen it happen this year. I know Andy Johnson thought Rocco Grimaldi embellished during the overtime period of Friday's game but unfortunately, I don't have any video to go back and look at.

I can think of two instances last year where Ben Blood embellished to draw a penalty. I am saying that embellishment and diving is way out of hand in the WCHA and college hockey right now. I think it's poor sportsmanship.

"Locked Out" NHL Gophers Return to Minnesota

Even though they're former Gopher hockey players, and they're from two teams I am not all that fond of, Keith Ballard who's from the Vancouver Canucks and Paul Martin who's from the Pittsburgh Penguins; they both did a pretty good job in this video and it's very funny. Thank God the NHL is back on.

NHL wants to punish and black list divers

Vancouver Canucks center Maxim Lapierre during...
Diver/Fraud
I find it funny if not ironic that the Vancouver Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa would be on a committee of NHL players to look at diving and divers, when he's on a team that employs three of the biggest divers in the National Hockey League, Ryan Kessler, Maxim Lapierre, Alex Burrows, and lets not forget the Sedin Twins Daniel and Henrik who are also the kings of the head snap.
Joe Haggerty, CSNNE --- Ironically enough Canucks defenseman Kevin Bieksa was one of the NHL players at the enforcement meetings looking to snuff out the diving infractions, but he has long been one of the Vancouver skaters to play the game with some level of honesty. Campbell said that players, coaches and managers are hoping for a “Most Wanted” list of divers to be posted in every NHL locker room, and therefore hopefully embarrass them.

So P.K. Subban, Mike Ribeiro, Alex Burrows and Maxim Lapierre among others should officially be on notice that there will be a zero tolerance policy for divers on the ice next season.

"They want to get [the list] out there," said Campbell to reporters. "They want the player to be caught, whether it's on the ice by the referee or by us on video. They are all tired of diving. The object is to make them stop eventually and, by doing that, they can get it out there around the League, embarrass them. The referees will know it, too, so the divers don't get the benefit of the doubt.”
I am all for the NHL having a list with the NHL most blatant divers and I am also for punishing the players that are the repeat offenders that you see flopping all over the like a fish out of water. Doesn't sound like the NHL is to that point yet - I am hoping they reconsider looking at the diving and embellishment problem if it doesn't improve
Mike Brehm, USA TODAY --- "They want to get [the list] out there," Campbell said. "They want the player to be caught, whether it's on the ice by the referee or by us on video. They are all tired of diving. The object is to make them stop eventually and, by doing that, they can get it out there around the League, embarrass them. The referees will know it, too, so the divers don't get the benefit of the doubt."

According to the NHL Rulebook, players who violate the diving/embellishment rule can be subject to supplementary discipline through fine and/or suspension. Campbell said there was no appetite among the group attending the two-day summit to suspend repeat offenders, because the players feel the punishment that comes with having your name on the divers' list would be enough to reduce the frequency with which the tactic is used.
Diving and embellishment is an issue that I would like to see the NHL address - it has been horrible the last couple of seasons in the NHL - especially during the Stanley Cup Playoffs. Me personally, I would like to see there be a suspension(s) for players that are caught committing multiple offenses for embellishment and or diving. What do you think?

Hump Day links… No Hockey = anxiety

As the summer winds down I like many hockey fans – am getting ready for some hockey (professional and College). The First exhibition for UND hockey on October 6th 2012, is two days shy of two months.

Last week we mentioned this story in pass... It still looks as if Cristobal Huet is still looking for a home in the NHL after playing two seasons in the Swiss League.
Jim Jamieson, The Province --- Huet, who won a Stanley Cup ring with the Blackhawks in 2010 (although on the bench, as Antti Niemi got the starts), was banished to Europe by Chicago the past two seasons primarily because of the size of his contract and its $5.625 million cap hit.

But Huet is looking to return after two seasons in the Swiss League and his agent, Stephen Bartlett, is shopping his 37-year-old client around the NHL.
So if we are to believe the reports - it sounds like the Stanley Cup Champions L.A. Kings and the Vancouver Canucks are expressing interest in Cristobal Huet

Everyone’s favorite diver Vancouver Canucks fraud Ryan Kessler, will be out until December after having shoulder and wrist surgeries. Originally, some had though that there was a possibility of Kessler being able to come back in October but that discussion has since been squashed. [The Providence]

According to TSN.CA, there are now plans being drawn up to have a second NHL ready arena in the Toronto Area. The new arena could be the host of the 2015 World Junior Hockey Championship.
The Toronto area should be closer to getting a big-league arena this week, as GTA Sports and Entertainment Chairman and CEO Graeme Roustan will submit the GTA Centre Site Plan Application to the City of Markham on Wednesday
Former Boston University Terrier Corey N. Trivino, has been sentenced to two year’s probation for his criminal activities last winter that led to his dismissal from the Boston University Hockey team. The former BU Terriers’ will two years from now in August 2014.
Corey N. Trivino, the former top scorer for Boston University’s hockey team, was sentenced to two years of probation after a teary-eyed former student at the school testified in court Tuesday that her life was turned upside down when he cornered and assaulted her in her dorm room last December. “Mr. Trivino’s actions have caused me more pain, suffering, and fear that I’ve ever experienced in my life,’’ said the woman, who identified herself in court, but whose name the Globe is withholding because she was the victim of a potential sex crime. [Boston Globe]
The BU Hockey Blog has his take on the matter as well. [BU Hockey Blog]

Jess Rubenstein from the Prospect Place asks the question, "Really if you are the New York Islanders do you dare bring Trivino into camp?" I have to agree with Jess and say that if I am the General Manager of the New York Islanders I would walk away from this kid in a heartbeat and spare the team the baggage and drama that comes with this troubled kid.

I really hope that this rumor is not true and doesn’t come to fruition. The last thing that I want to see is the NHL jerseys look like the ones the playes wear in Europe during the IIHF.
Jeremy Lynn, CSNChicago --- In order to increase revenue, the NBA announced last month that they had tentatively approved a plan to put advertising on players' game jerseys for the 2013-14 season.

If one major sports league is willing to do it, could others follow suit -- especially the NHL?

SI.com warns hockey fans not to be surprised if the idea of ad logos on NHL sweaters becomes a reality within the next few years.
There still is no word on whether Aaron Dell is returning to UND for his senior season or not. As soon as we hear either way we will let you know. I was told by a very good source back in April that Dell was going to sign a professional contract and not be returning to UND. Either way UND will be pretty solid in net this season.

Here is the latest news from the NHL CBA negotiations – it sounds like the NHLPA and the Owners are tying up some loose ends before they get down to the nuts and bolts of the discussion.
Corey Masisak, NHL.COM --- Fehr is expected to join the meetings in New York on Thursday, which is expected to begin the shift in the discussions toward the core economic issues in the CBA negotiations.

Schneider said Tuesday that the NHLPA is "definitely closer" to extending a counter-proposal on the economic issues in response to the League's initial proposal from last month, but did not offer a concrete timeline on when it will occur.

"We have a team of people who are working on it and getting through an awful lot of stuff, an awful lot of papers," Schneider said. "It is an ongoing process."

Daly said that work on the new CBA will continue while the League awaits a proposal from the Union.
Carolina Hurricane’s forward Jeff Skinner has signed a contract extension worth $34.35 million or $5.725 million a year for six years. If the NHL owners get their way there will no longer be deals that are longer than 5 years. Last season Skinner scored 20g-24a—44pts in 64 games. [NHL.COM]

A light moment.

s/t to Michael Cichy who had this funny picture on his twitter feed. As a self professed Vancouver Canucks hater this picture is funny to me - probably not very funny to the people that cheer for the Canucks can take issue with this picture but it's true. It's your typical Ryan Kessler  - if you watched the Stanley Cup Playoffs the last two seasons you would've seen him diving all over the ice.

Canucks interested in signing Schultz

Getty Images
The most unlikable team in the NHL is also interested in signing former Wisconsin Badgers All-WCHA defenseman Justin Schultz.
Brad Ziemer, Vancouver Sun - Canuck general manager Mike Gillis and assistant Laurence Gilman are in Toronto and it's not to chat with Maple Leafs GM Brian Burke about a Roberto Luongo trade.

Gillis and Gilman instead headed east in the hope of meeting with hockey's hottest free agent not named Zach Parise or Ryan Suter.

The Canucks are one of a reported 26 NHL teams said to be pursuing collegiate defenceman Justin Schultz, who just completed his junior year at the University of Wisconsin.

This is one free-agent negotiation that won't be all about the money. Everyone is prepared to offer Schultz, a soon to be 22-year-old Kelowna native, the maximum $925,000 a year, two-year entry level contract (plus bonuses) to which he is entitled under the current collective bargaining agreement.

What Schultz is said to want is ice time and there have been suggestions that he also has a preference to play in Canada.
While I follow and write about UND hockey, Justin Schultz is one of my favorite opposition players. In my opinion, Schultz is "one" of the best players that I have ever watched play the college game at the defense position.

Let me preface this by saying, this is not a slam against other WCHA players and or former Fighting Sioux hockey players, because I have watched some great players over the years.

The reason I think that Schultz is that good and close to NHL ready – he the ability to dazzle you with his offensive talents and he brings the fans out of their seats –he is also like having a fourth forward on the ice. That being said, I hope Schultz signs with anyone other than the diving, whining Canucks hockey team.

Remaking Burrows' image

Last season a major American Newspaper from Pittsburgh wrote a newspaper article that tried to remake Matt Cooke's  tattered image after the Penguins bad boy was suspended by the National Hockey League's Department of Player Safety for the rest of the Stanley Cup Playoffs. I guess we could say this article some similar to that one. This article by the Vancouver Providence wants us to look at one of the players in a different light.

Enter Alex Burrows, while me might be a "great" hockey player statically; his unsportsmanlike on ice antics makes him one of the most unlikable players/characters in the NHL. Burrows also happens to be a team member on one of the most unlikable teams in the NHL, the Canucks are the poster boys of poor sportsmanship. As we have seen in the Stanley Cup Playoffs that last few years, the Vancouver Canucks are a team full of driving frauds and cry babies that are as light on their skates as any team in the NHL.  Everytime someone touches one of the Canucks they throw their heads back like they have been shot.
The Providence --- Burrows has done himself no favours in the past. He is not known as a hockey player but as a finger-biting, hair-pulling, head-snapping diver who gets to play the role of fire-hydrant, standing in front of the net while the Sedins bank shots in off him.

It’s a shame because Burrows is a hell of a hockey player.

Consider that he’s averaged 30 goals a season over the past four campaigns.

But then add to the consideration the fact he gets next to no power-play time.

When it comes to even-strength goals, he had 23 this season – more than Rick Nash, more than Matt Moulson.
Burrows is the poster boy for everything that is wrong with the Vancouver Canucks, first he comes off as clownish character and an unlikable buffoon that I can only imagine that an opposing player would rather pound into the boards or  cross check in the mouth, rather than to have to watch their on ice antics. This past post season the head coach of the Vancouver Canucks Alain Vigneaul had to tell Canucks forwards Alex Burrows and Max LaPierre to shut their mouths.

Burrows biting of Patrice Bergeron during the 2011 Stanley Cup Finals was an atrocious and unpunished childish act that should have resulted in Burrows being give a suspension.

If I was a general manager in the NHL I would take a pass on this clown, I don't care how many goals that he scores - while Burrows has a serious upside offensively - he is also a poor sport and a distraction to the rest of the Vancouver Canucks and there are a lot of other unlikable characters on that team. If I was the GM of the Vancouver Canucks I would try to package a deal that includes Alex burrows and  Max Lapierre to any Eastern Conference team that would take these two clowns. Losing those two players would help save the image of that once great franchise.

Jarret Stoll's series winning goal

This was the goal that sent the Vancouver Canucks to the golf course and sent the L.A. Kings to the second round of the NHL playoffs to play the St Louis Blue. Its only fitting that on the game winning goal by Kings forward Jarrett Stoll that there is a Vancouver Canuck defenseman Dan Hamhuis flopping around on the ice as the game winning goal was being scored.
