Platinum edition – Shaking off the cobwebs on Saturday Afternoon

I really liked this post that was on twitter today. As most know, I am not a Canucks fan and I think with the addition of former Dallas forward Steve Ott to their roster only gives me more reasons to not like the Vancouver Canucks. As I have said in the past, I think that the Vancouver Canucks are one of the most "unlikeable teams" in the NHL, they are a team stuffed full of characters I have no problem  despising. This is also the team that employed Todd Bertuzzi at one time. Now you have a trio of losers, Alex Burrows, Steve Ott and Max LaPierre.

I am not sure who is worse from that group of miss fits, but  Ott is also that guy that is the
prototypical P.O.S. if you catch my drift.

Breaking down the Zidlicky trade

You can mark me down as being happy with the deal. Love it.

The Minnesota Wild traded the disgruntled and overrated Marek Zidlicky, I also think the Wild got rid of a locker room distraction, that they don’t need going down the stretch.  In return for Zidlicky the Minnesota Wild get former Wild defenseman Kurtis Foster and also forwards Nick Palmieri and Stephane Veilleux. The kicker is the Wild will also get a second-round pick in 2012 draft.

I think it’s a smart move for the Wild because they get a decent defenseman and a third or fourth line forward that will do what-ever it takes to help the team win. I don’t know much about Nick Palmieri other than he is an American from New York and has played in 48 NHL games and has scored (9g-9a—18pts), it would seem that he will add some needed depth to the third or fourth line as well.

During his NHL career, Zidlicky has scored 60 goals and added 238 assists. Zidlicky has also racked up  496 penalty minutes, in 548 games.

Dany Heatley elbows Steve Ott

First off I am not a fan of Steve Ott and his antics and I think he is a disgusting puke and his hit from Dany Heatley is probably about karma and in a way I am sure that he probably had it coming and deserved this based on all of the questionable things that Steve Ott does on the ice, however, the rules are the rules and Former Wisconsin Badger Dany Heatley did elbow Steve Ott in the face and was suspended for two games by the NHL.

Here are a few examples of Ott's Thuggery...

Thursday night at the fights Boston and Dallas...

Check out this video, this is old old time hockey between the Boston Bruins and Dallas Stars. One second into the period Boston's Greg Campbell and Dallas hack and menace Steve Ott drop the gloves, Ott catches Campbell with an elbow. Next not to be out done, Bruins tough guy Shawn Thornton works Stars punching bag Krys Barch like a clown sending Barch to the locker room for repairs. Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid show Brian Sutherby why he shouldn't dropped gloves four seconds into the game. Then after a few goals former Wisconsin Badger Adam Burish gets his ass handed to him by Andrew Ference, wow what a fight. Oh yeah and the Bruins won the game as well 6-3.

Here is the call of the three fights to open the game by my favorite homer Jack Edwards. The game wasn't 10 minutes old and there was four fights, and the Bruins had a 3-0 lead.

Clutterbuck hit on Brad Richards

Another example of a legal hit and then another player that has to fight because he hit someone legally with a text book hit. Hockey is a physical game and Clutterbuck shouldn't have to fight because he smashed someone within the rules of the game. Steve Ott proves once again that he is nothing more than a knuckle dragging nethanderal hack. Again I think fighting is a part of the game and I find it entertaining but why would you drop the gloves because someone checked a team mate? That is bravo sierra, checking is part of the game.
When you play the Minnesota Wild, you have to be weary of two things: Methodical play, and the Clutterbuck bullet train. Apparently Dallas didn’t get the memo. You know, the one released a month ago?

Resident bone crusher Cal Clutterbuck laid some serious wood on Brad Richards, then tangled with Dallas Stars enforcer Steve Ott – twice. To the doubters of Cal’s strength and whether it transitioned to his play on the ice, you will soon be silenced.

As the puck was coming out of the Dallas zone, Brad Richards tried to find a forward up ice and flicked the puck in the direction of another Star. Unfortunately for the seasoned veteran, his head was down, and Cal Clutterbuck was waiting in the wings. There’s not much else I can say about this, other than Brad Richards will keep his head up the next time Clutterbuck comes to the American Airlines Arena
