The Breakdown of the Hockey Rink

This one is kind of funny, the break down of the NHL Hockey Rink. I would like to have one for college with the Wehr's Corner.

Buffalo Sabres: Tyler Myers suspended three games for check to the head

Buffalo Sabres defenseman Tyler Myers has been given a three-game suspension by the NHL's Department of Player Safety for this dirty hit on Devils forward Dainius Zubrus. I think this suspension is about right. Myers is also a repeat offender.

(Video) MIchigan's Alex Kile Shootout Goal vs Ferris State

So, you don't like shootouts eh? This video might actually change your mind. Take a look at this dirty goal by Michigan's Alex Kile as he undresses the Ferris State goalie C.J. Motte. Michigan won the game 3-2 in the shootout.

UND Hockey a bunch of heathens because they bus to and from away games.

Apparently, UND hockey is above riding a bus to and from away hockey games if you were to believe in the mindset of one Boston University Blogger. In my two plus season of covering the team, I have never heard anyone complain about riding the bus.  Yeah, you can't make this up. This is coming from eastern teams that rarely travel very far for league games. The bus rides are actually faster in a lot of instances, they would have had to wait till the next morning to fly home. The bus they rode on, had beds, so they could sleep if they wanted.

The UND Athletic Budget breaks even when you look at revenues and expenses.

As you can see by the screen shots, UND athletics breaks even with their athletic department. The fact that the UND hockey program made 3,318,211.00 in ticket sales for FY12, is just part of the of the whole big picture.

Check out @UNDSID's tweet.

I think this tweet is well said. Hockey players are a special breed. I just hope we don't have a bunch of sick and banged up hockey players this week when the rested UMD Bull Dogs come to town.

A tale of two goalies (Ben Bishop and Daren Pang)

Former Maine goalie "Big" Ben Bishop is 6'7" tall, that's a very tall goalie. Daren Pang is 5'5" tall, and he's very short goaltender. I once met Panger when I was working the check point at the GFK airport after World Juniors in 2005, he's really not a very big man.

The Delusional Rantings of Bison fan

Check out the delusional ranting and raving of  John Neis, originally I had incorrectly said this was the delusional rantings of Lakes Buffoon as I call him, yeah that one that got himself in trouble not too long ago. This isn't him. I must apologize to Samuel Paul Humann aka Lakes Bison. Don't worry he's still deranged too.

That being said, as long as the AG School aka NDSU keeps winning, you're going to see the belligerence of fans like this out in full force. Just thought you might like to see this, it's definitely funny. NDSU is good, but there have been better teams in FCS Football.

NHL to use new Nets

The NHL is going to use a new net this season. Here's a picture of that new net. I wish sometimes they would just leave the game alone and just play hockey.
NHL.COM --- Gone is the traditional rounded "elbow" of the goal cage and now, replaced by a shorter angle according to the NHL, which gives the net a squared look.

The padding inside the apron of the net has also been trimmed, allowing officials a better look at pucks that may have approached or just crossed the goal line. The NHL thinks this change will allow for better efficiency in real-time goal calls and also in video reviews, which were sometimes hindered by thick padding inside the net.

It's been two days of practice with the new-look nets, and though there are multiple small changes, the one thing that some players mentioned is how they look to a shooter's eye.

"I think the biggest thing is that it looks like a bigger net, to be honest with you," Nick Foligno told BlueJackets.com

Forum headline: Former UNO, UND football coach arrested in Iowa

The Fargo Forum probably was falling all over itself to put up that headline. To quote the A.P. article that the Forum doctored, "[Pat] Behrns had been head coach of the University of North Dakota football team from 1980 to 1985." Behrns hasn't coached at UND for 28 years. This is the same newspaper that won't hold their head football coach or the football players at NDSU accountable.

Jarome Iginla humor

I went to bed last night thinking that my favorite team had received Jarome Iginla in a trade with the Calgary Flames, I woke up this morning to find out that this was not the case. I guess somewhere, there is some humor in this.

(Edit) MTU No goal, the puck went over the net.

Edit: if this was a goal, the puck wouldn't have shot up into the air. Meaning one thing, the puck in question went over the top of the net. There were also people sitting behind the UND net, that said they saw the puck go over the top of the net as well. So, the right call was made.

In looking at these two images, I don't know, it's hard to say. Like I said earlier, the officiating was equally poor all weekend long for both teams and wasn’t a factor in the game. Both teams will have to play through it tomorrow night, obviously, and one teams is going to advance to the Final Five next week. s/t Tim Boger.

T.J. Oshie goal against the Vancouver Canucks

Former Fighting Sioux and current Saint Louis Blues forward T.J. Oshie scores his fifth goal of the year against the Vancouver Canucks.

The box score should read T. OSHIE (5) WRIST - ASST: D. BACKES (9) AND D. PERRON (7)...

ND and Miami Scrum at the end of the game

Here was the end of the first game of the Hockey City Classic. I watched this scrum numerous times on my television, and it looks like, Notre Dame forward Jeff Costello spears some random Miami RedHawk at the end of the game. There were no penalties called on the play. It will be interesting to see if the CCHA officials review the video from the end of the game, to see if there is anything else that warrants additional supplemental discipline.

(Video) Tucker Tucker Poolman

This is UND Hockey recruit  and Omaha Lancers defenseman Tucker Poolman and his thoughts on the USHL/NHL Top Prospects game interview. I thought it was interesting that Poolman has 10 goals on the season, and all 10 are on the power play.
