(Video) Chris Neil's Hit on Brian Boyle

This is the hit that has everyone buzzing tonight. Senators tough guy Chris Neil hit the Rangers forward Brian Boyle with this hard hit. Rangers head coach John Tortorella was unhappy with the check after the game and said that Boyle is concussed.

Marc Staal hit on Jason Spezza

This is kind of an odd hit by the New York Rangers forward Marc Staal on Senators forward Jason Spezza during the second period of tonight's game. While the hit by Staal on Spezza doesn't seem real egregious or malicious, it's still a hit to the head that should have resulted in a two minute minor. Spezza would leave the game but return for the start of the third period. I personally don't see anything coming out of this hit.

Kyle Turris helps Sens tie series with Rangers

Former Wisconsin Badger (2007-08) forward Kyle Turris scored the game winning goal 2:42 into the first overtime to give the Ottawa Senators a 3-2 victory against the New York Rangers in Game 4 of the Eastern Conference Quarterfinals. Turris has been pretty good during the series against the Rangers and he has (1g-2a-3pts).

Rangers' Hagelin suspended for three games

The NHL has suspended New York Rangers rookie winger Carl Hagelin for his hit on Ottawa Senators captain Daniel Alfredsson. You got to give Hagelin credit he has since apologized for his hit on Alfredson.
"I sent him a text yesterday that said I'm sorry and I'm very regretful for what happened," Hagelin said after Sunday's practice.
It will be interesting to see how many games Matt Carkner gets for his act of stupidity.

Rangers and Senators will keep Shanny Busy...

Here are a couple of incidents from the Ottawa Senators and the New York Rangers game that is going to get a look at by the department of players safety. Senators defenseman Matt Carkner should be suspended for his attack on Rangers forward Brian Boyle, Rangers forward Brandon Dubinsky comes to Boyle's aid. Both Carkner and Boyle were kicked out of the game.
2:15 OTT Matt Carkner served by Nick Foligno : Fighting (maj) - 5 min
02:15 NYR Brandon Dubinsky : Roughing - 2 min
02:15 OTT Matt Carkner : Instigator - 2 min
02:15 OTT Matt Carkner : Game misconduct - 0 min
02:15 NYR Brandon Dubinsky : Game misconduct - 0 min  [box score]

Rangers forward Carl Hagelin was given a five minute major for this elbow on Senators forward Daniel Alfredsson. Alfredsson would lave the game and not return. It will be interesting to see if Brendan Shanahan gives either player suspension, I think the the Carkner attack on Boyle is worthy of a 1-3 game suspension.

Shanahan will not suspend Kyle Turris

Kyle Turris will not be suspended for his hit on Joe Corvo. I think this is the wrong decision and this is the type of hits that need to be eliminated from hockey. I don't know how Shanahan can say that Turris didn't leave his feet. I would like to know what video that Shanny was watching?

Dan Rosen - NHL.com --- Shanahan said Turris told the Department of Player Safety that he slowed down prior to hitting Corvo in order to avoid hitting him in the numbers.

"We thought that was a good decision," Shanahan said. "He tried to wait until he felt it was going to be a shoulder-to-shoulder check.

" Shanahan said the contact to Corvo's head was made after the Bruins' defenseman opened his left shoulder following his pass. However, Shanahan said the Department of Player Safety did not deem it to be intentional or reckless. He said that Turris' feet were on the ice as he made the hit, but they come off as he's following through on the hit, "almost like he's falling into the boards himself."

"Like some of the suspensions we have had, it wasn't a case of him launching up high into the head," Shanahan added. "All players to a certain degree come off their feet when they drive through a check. That wasn't prior to the hit and he wasn't launching up."

Seidenberg's crazy goal.

Check out this crazy goal by Bruins defenseman Dennis Seidenberg as he takes a slap shot on net from center ice and beats Ottawa Senators' goalie Craig Anderson. If you're the goaltending coach from the Senators you can't be happy with this effort by Anderson. That was the game winning goal as well.

McQuaid Knees Foligno

I would expect the NHL to review Boston Bruins defenseman Adam McQuaid's knee to knee check on  Ottawa Senator's forward Nick Foligno. When I first saw the hit, I thought that Nick Foligno would be done for the night but Foligno returned to game after shaking it off on the bench. McQuaid was given a five minute major and a game misconduct.

s/t to Sean Leahy of Puck Daddy... Former DU Pioneer Patrick Wiercioch was struck with a puck in the throat while playing for the Binghamton Senators, the AHL team of the Ottawa Senators. Goon’s World would like to wish Patrick a speedy recovery. Ouch!
BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – The Binghamton Senators have issued the following statement regarding defenseman Patrick Wiercioch, who suffered a throat injury in Friday’s game versus the Norfolk Admirals:

“The Binghamton Senators can confirm that Patrick Wiercioch is resting peacefully and his being evaluated at the hospital. There are no further updates on his condition at this time.”

Alex Ovechkin cup checks Chris Neil

Check out this spear by Alex Ovechkin, that is unacceptable and it will be interesting to see if the league will suspend Ovechkin for his spear on Ottawa Senators tough guy Chris Neil. The video doesn't lie, that was a blatant spear and if Ovechkin doesn't like being checked he should take a number and get Neil back the correct way or Ovechkin can challenge Chris Neil to a fight and he they can settle it like men.

To add injury to insult Chris Neil was given a 2-minute penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct for “diving,” after the game the Senators forward Chris Neil was less than impressed with the spear by Alex Ovechkin.

Remembering former Wild Enforcer Derek Boogaard.

Yesterday morning I woke up at my hunting shack to find a depressing email on my iPhone from the Whistler; telling me that the former Minnesota Wild enforcer the "Boogeyman" Derek Boogaard had died in his Minneapolis apartment. Cause of death unknown at this time, pending the results of a autopsy from the Hennepin County Medical Examiner's Office... The Boogaard family is going to donate Derek's brain to science.  I don't want to speculate what caused Derek's death and I would actually urge others to not jump to conclusions like some have before we know the truth.

This was Derek Boogaard's last NHL goal which game against the Washington Capitals back in November of 2010. Incidentally that goal by the Boogeyman had broke a long goalless streak going back to January 7th of  2006, that goal broke a 234 game goalless streak.

Boogaard's last NHL game was on December 9th, 2010 against the Ottawa Senators where Boogaard sustained a concussion in a fight with Matt Carkner. Boogaard would never play again do to post concussion syndrome.

In closing I would like to express my deepest sympathy to the Boogaard family and may Derek Boogaard rest in peace. Personally, this is a sad day for me because I admire the enforcers in the NHL and I like what Boogaard brought to the ice for the five years that he played for the Minnesota Wild. Boogey might have been a tough guy but he played by the hockey code and was not a dirty player and he played the game straight up and you didn’t see him head hunting like some of the agitators around the NHL today. From everything that I have heard and read Derek was an awesome selfless person that gave back to the communities that he lived in.
