Are the NDSU Bison on the Verge of Being a Dynasty?

Here’s a good read on the NDSU Bison from the Argus Leader. You have to give the Ag School their due, they’re a good football team. I don’t think they’re a dynasty, but they’re a good football team. They will not stay at the top forever. Like I have said in the past, let them have their day in the sun. It's well deserved. What goes up must come down.

Some poster over on Bisonville suggested that the FCS champion play the FBS champion. Yeah Right! Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. Alabama would murder NDSU, it wouldn't be close.
Terry Vandrovec, Argus Leader – As if being ranked No. 1, selling out every home game before the opener and winning the last two national championships hadn’t brought enough attention and credibility to the Bison.

What’s more, this NDSU crew might be better than the last two – it’s certainly more experienced – and is bidding to join Appalachian State (2005-07) as the only programs to three-peat. So while this kind of run is not unprecedented in the FCS, it’s the first of its kind in the Upper Midwest.

Still, for all the swagger the Bison (3-0) display on the field they don’t want to talk dynasty – not publicly, not in the first month of this season and not with a showdown at No. 6 South Dakota State (3-1) set for Saturday. NDSU has decided against overtly chasing history.

“Complacency is something we’ve always been guarded against here,” NDSU coach Craig Bohl said. “Not only just recently, but North Dakota State has enjoyed a proud tradition for a long, long time. So we’ve been able to just gravitate back to some of our roots, which is great.”
If there’s a team that can beat NDSU, I think that SDSU has a chance. The Jack Rabbits have the best running back in the FCS with Zach Zenner, who fan wild against UND (296 yards) and Nebraska (202 Yards). I am going to say that Nebraska’s defense is better than NDSU.

EDIT: Apparently Bison Fans have been trolling my blog from Belligerentville aka Bisonville.

UND Football: Lou Holtz says UND and NDSU should play each other

I would have to say that even former University of Minnesota Gopher and Notre Dame head football coach Lou Holtz gets it. But for some reason, the two schools can’t seem to put their differences and pride aside to make this happen.

By the way, anyone that thinks this match-up isn’t beneficial to both schools, is delusional and out of touch with reality. Also, FBI University aka FU, isn’t always going to be on top of FCS forever.
GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Former Notre Dame football coach Lou Holtz told North Dakota State University and University of North Dakota presidents this week he can’t believe the two longtime rivals don’t play each other.

The ESPN football analyst is in Grand Forks to speak to the North Dakota Petroleum Council annual meeting this morning. Holtz said he enjoyed having dinner Tuesday night with presidents and athletic directors from NDSU and UND.

“I just think that is insane that two great schools, 70 miles apart or so, are not playing one another,” Holtz said.

Holtz, who also coached at the University of Minnesota and in the NFL, now works as an analyst for ESPN. The cable network is bringing its GameDay pregame show to broadcast from Fargo on Saturday.

“North Dakota State can fill up the stadium anyway, but it’d be a great money-maker for both schools, I think,” Holtz said. “The Legislature needs to get involved.”

Holtz said he predicted on four shows that NDSU would beat Kansas State and called it a “no-brainer” to pick the Bison.
Begin Rant: What the hell was former UND Athletic Director Roger Thomas thinking back in the days when NDSU made the transition to FCS Football. For some reason, we’re still paying the price for this man’s short sightedness. NDSU and UND are playing in every other sport but FCS Football. I just don’t get this mind set.

I said, "You can't be serious? I was going to go to the football game." Was, is the key word here. No problem though, I, like many UND football fans, that don’t have MIDCO will be able to watch the game on FCS 623 DirecTV tonight. So, to quote Phil Robertson from Duck Dynasty, “everyone is happy, happy, happy… “

Bison ducking UND in football?

This doesn’t pass the smell test. Does anyone believe the bravo sierra that they’re shoveling in Fargo right now? So, NDSU doesn’t want to pay UND in football because; they’re still whining about UND not playing NDSU when they made the transition to division I FCS while UND was still Division II.

If not, then what the heck is stopping this historic match-up from happening? It doesn’t take a brain surgeon to realize that the NDSU and UND football games of the 1990’s were some epic battles.

If we’re to believe that hype from the Bison fans, NDSU would blow UND out of the water and hardly break a sweat.

NDSU is fresh off a second FCS NCAA title in a row and they can’t seem to find a date to play their brother to the north who was a mediocre 5-6 last year.
Jeff Kolpack, INFORUM --- The Bison open the 2013 season at Kansas State and host Montana State the following week. Kansas State played in the Fiesta Bowl and Montana State was a highly ranked Division I Football Championship Subdivision team all season.

“Right now, we’re looking for a type of opponent based on Kansas State and Montana State,” Taylor said.

UND athletic director Brian Faison said the thought of scheduling NDSU is currently a moot point because it does not officially have a schedule opening.

“But we would be willing to talk,” he said.

UND has 11 games and Faison said he is comfortable with the current setup and is not actively looking for a 12th opponent. Teams are allowed 12 games next year because of the way the calendar is set up.
I just don’t get it; you could sell a big arena if UND and NDSU were playing again… You can’t tell me that the Missouri Valley Conference has match-ups that would top the UND versus NDSU match-up. Heck, let’s make this happen, let's restore this once historic rivalry in the overgrown Quonset hut known as the Fargo Dome. Oh yeah, should I remind people that UND still has the Nickle Trophy in case anyone is wondering.

The Big Sky is Coming to Root Sports

I found this video on line and this should get you in the mood for Big Sky Football coming this fall.  It’s going to be nice watching the teams in the Big Sky foes coming to the Alerus Center as opposed to watching the University of Sioux Falls or some other NAIA or Divsion II school.
