This is about 10 days late, but Former UND forward Michael Parks has signed with the Philadelphia Flyers organization. I imagine that he will play in the AHL or ECHL.

Minnesota Wild Announce New ECHL Affiliate

There has been a lot of hockey news in the past day or so, and more coming from the Minnesota Wild camp today as well, and no it isn't anything about the Darcy Kuemper situation. The Wild have announced an affiliation with the ECHL's Alaska Aces.

The Aces have been very successful as a franchise in the past few seasons, winning three Kelly Cup Championships in the past nine seasons, including this past season.

Included in the agreement, according to wild.com, the Aces will serve as a resource for developmental efforts for both Iowa (AHL) and Minnesota.

UND fans may take notice at a familiar face on the Aces roster, and now in the Minnesota Wild system, Evan Trupp. Trupp played four years at UND and was a member of the Aces for their championship winning team last season.

Former DU Assistant Derek Lalonde now Head Coach for Toledo Walleyes

Former Denver assistant head coach Derek Lalonde is now the head coach of the ECHL's Toledo Walleye.
Official Release --- The Walleye are excited to welcome Derek Lalonde as the team’s new head coach. Lalonde was introduced during a press conference on Monday morning at the Huntington Center in downtown Toledo.

“We want to build great things here in Toledo, build a culture of success.” Lalonde has been head coach and general manager of the Green Bay Gamblers of the United States Hockey League since 2011, compiling a record of 111-54-14, guiding the team to both regular season and playoff championships in 2011-12, and was USHL Coach of the Year in 2012. He was also Head Coach of Team USA’s U19 National Team which captured gold at the World Junior A Challenge in November of 2013.

Joe Napoli, Toledo Walleye president and general manager, says Lalonde was the one who stood out during a very rigorous interviewing process. “We were thrilled with the quality of candidates we interviewed, both nationally and internationally.”

Putting on the Links; Thursday afternoon

There's some good news, good tickets still remain for this weekend's series. So let's put some butts in the seats this weekend. Cold weather, no problem, fans in North Dakota are tough.

The hits keep coming. More great news, the series between UND vs. UMD will be on MidcoSN. However, you will need to live in the regional area to watch the games.

Former UND goalie Aaron Dell is making an impact in the ECHL. You would have to think he's going to get a look at the next level, if he keeps playing like this.

Looking ahead to this weekend's games. Matt Semisch of USCHO fame and I reviewed this weekend's pivotal NCHC series. I think that you will find his answer interesting.

The UND vs. UNO series is quickly becoming one of those series that you mark off on the calendar. The two teams don't like each other.

Check out this article with UND junior defenseman Nick Mattson, he's made the transition from the USHL to college hockey very nicely. My brother-in-law Andy Brink, who run the Breakaway Hockey School with former Gopher and Buffalo Sabres forward Dave Snuggerud, talks highly of Mattson and his skills as well.

Jets agree to terms with Jason DeSantis & Jake Marto on AHL Contracts

Thursday, 04.08.2011 / 10:09 AM / News Articles
The Winnipeg Jets, in conjunction with St. John’s IceCaps, are pleased to announce today they have agreed to terms with Jason DeSantis and Jake Marto on new American Hockey League contracts. As per club policy, terms of the agreements are not disclosed.

DeSantis, 24, split the 2010-11 season between the AHL’s Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins and ECHL’s Wheeling Nailers. The defenceman from Oxford, MI played 19 games with the Penguins recording five points (1g, 4a) and eight penalty minutes. He also recorded 27 points (6g, 21a) and 38 penalty minutes in 45 games with the Wheeling Nailers. DeSantis helped the Nailers reach the third round of the 2011 Kelly Cup Playoffs scoring three points (1g, 2a) in 15 games. DeSantis has played in 85 career AHL games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and the Philadelphia Phantoms collecting 27 points (2g, 25a) and 26 penalty minutes. He joined the Phantoms in 2008 after four seasons of college hockey with the Ohio State Buckeyes.

Marto, 23, recently finished his senior season on defence with the University of North Dakota where he played 157 games over four seasons collecting 57 points (21g, 41a) and 48 penalty minutes. The native of Grand Forks, ND helped the Fighting Sioux to consecutive conference titles in the 2010 & 2011 WCHA tournament. Marto played two seasons with the USHL’s Omaha Lancers before joining UND. While with Omaha, Marto played in a total of 114 games and recorded 45 points (6g, 39a) and 54 penalty minutes.

I'm happy he's getting a chance at pro hockey. Not sure where it will lead but it's pretty cool.

As an aside, the date on this article is actually August 4th, not April 8th. They use the European date format.
