Shane Doan hit on Jamie Benn

I can find no reason the NHL shouldn't suspended the Coyotes forward Shane Doan for this bush league, unnecessary and dirty hit on Dallas forward Jamie Benn. I also don't see how anyone can defense this hit? Rightfully so, Shane Doan has a hearing this afternoon with the department of players safety this afternoon.

Anyone want to guess on what kind of a suspension that Shane Doan gets for his efforts. I don't see how he can escape punishment for this hit. I think it's time for Brendan Shanahan to throw the book at someone and stop letting them escape with a fine or no punishment at all.

A "Dirty" Hit that wasn't (RW77)

Last night, I watched the Dallas vs. Pittsburgh game (unfortunately, Pittsburgh won in a shootout). However, during the game, there was a hit that got everyone talking.

I do not know how to embed but: Here is the video.

The Stars (and former Michigan star) Eric Nystrom hits Pens Defenseman Kris Letang high-ish.

Mike Milbury (aka the idiot in this post) and Jeremy Roenick (who usually is the idiot but in this case was right on) had an on air argument over this hit.

Here's the pros and cons on it being a dirty hit:

1. Pro: Nystrom makes no move to get the puck.
2. Con: If Nystrom made head contact, it was the brushing of his shoulder on Letang's chin.
3. Pro: Injury to the head occurred.
4. Con: Injury was more to the effect of the big hit rather than the shoulder.
5. Con: Main impact area is Letang's shoulder/collarbone. He got rocked and the impact alone would have knocked most guys out of the game anyways, imo.
6. Con: Letang was coming out of the corner and his head was down.
7. Con: Letang was away from the boards and his back was not turned to Nystrom at the time of impact.

In the end, Milbury ended up having a stroke on air (exaggeration) because even incidental or the brushing of the head should be a suspendable offense. Roenick correctly stated that if there is fault for the hit, it rests on Letang. Nystrom did not leave his skates nor made any distinguishable upward motion of the shoulders to attempt to headhunt.

Milbury went on to rant that hits like these should be eliminated from the game. This was NOT a head shot! It was whiplash due to the extreme and sudden change in direction of Letang's right shoulder exaggerated by the helmet hitting the ice.

This hit cannot be made illegal or the slippery slope will become a cliff.

Steve Ott is at it again

First off, Dallas Stars hack Steve Ott is a jerk and if he never played another game in the NHL, it wouldn't hurt my feelings one bit. Second, there was no reason for Steve Ott to engage or say anything to Peter Laviolette, so what he walking down the tunnel to the locker room. If you look at the video you will see that Laviolette isn't wearing a uniform there is no reason for Ott to engage the coach of the Flyers.
After the end of the first period on Wednesday night, the Versus telecast showed Flyers head coach Peter Laviolette having some words with Dallas Stars center Steve Ott in the entrance to the tunnel. After Ott appeared to have blocked the coach's path back to the dressing room, wanting the coach to allow the Stars to go off first, Lavy gave Ott a bit of a shove to get out of his way. [The700Level]
To top it all off, during the second period of tonight's game Steve Ott continued to the be the jerk that he is. Ott was running his big mouth and chirping the whole Philadelphia Flyers bench. I mean, no one should be shocked by this, it's his modus operandi. Then when the bill came due, Ott was challenged to a fight in the second period by the Flyers defenseman Marc-Andre Bourdon, and of course Ott turtled and wouldn't fight Bourdon.

Paille hit on Sawada

Boston Bruins forward Daniel Paille received ten and a game misconduct match penalty for this hit on Raymond Sawada tonight. Will there be a suspension to Daniel Paille for this hit? It does look like Paille catches Sawada with a elbow to the head.

Mike Modano to the Wild?

Having grown up in Minnesota during my youth and being a rabid Minnesota North Stars fans until Norm “Greed” Green up and moved the team to Dallas; I would welcome a return of Mike Modano to the Minnesota Wild. From reading the rumor mill on line it would appear that Modano is also being courted by the Detroit Redwings and San Jose Sharks; Modano being from Livonia, Michigan would also make the Redwings a logical place to finish his hockey career, if he didn't sign with the Minnesota Wild.
The door has officially been opened for future Hall of Famer Mike Modano to perhaps finish his NHL career in the place it started.

Wild GM Chuck Fletcher said Friday that he spoke with Modano this week about the Wild's interest in signing the former North Stars center to a free-agent contract.

"We're interested in speaking to Mike about his future plans," Fletcher said. "We obviously have interest in doing anything that will make our team better, and we just want to sit down with him and see if there's a mutual fit." [Red Star and Sickle]
I think Modano would bring leadership to the Wild locker room as well as add speed and needed points to the Wild’s unimpressive line up. What do you think? Do you like the idea of the Wild attempting to get Modano to end his career in Minnesota?

Mark Parrish different city same story.

Seems like we have heard this song before. Former Wild and SCSU star Mark Parrish is scratching his heard after sitting out the last two games as a healthy scratch. If you watch the video you will see three of his four goals he scored in 20 games this season. If Mark doesn't get it going he could be in the minors because he is on a two way contract.
